Hey all,

New here and new to vaping. Just got off the stink-sticks - and it seems I've traded one addition for another. I can't stop buying new kit. However, I think I've finally settled on what I like...for now.

I'm running a kayfun Lite plus on an Epic SMPL Mec Mod as my main go-to. I just picked up the SMPL, my first Mec, and I'm really liking it. For my "covert" unit, I'm using an EGO One 1100 with a SubTank Nano. Then my backup is a Vapor Shark with a SubTank Mini. I'm happy with all of these set ups.

And thanks to my local stores for educating me on what's what. These folks have all been fantastic.

So, I'm going to hang out here and try to learn as much as possible to improve my overall vaping experience.

Cheers

Howdy, welcome to the ECF! Grats on quitting the narsties. Keep it up!

The SMPL is a pretty nice-lookin' mod. Just feel obligated to mention that you should never put your SubTank (or any other carto-style tank/anything with a near-flush 510 connection) on your SMPL. Just a friendly warning!

Thanks! I did the brass in the hopes that it will patina nicely over time.

I too have the SMPL original by Epic. It is by far my best mechanical, I love it. Did you go copper, brass, stainless, or the grey aluminum?

Thanks for the warning. Can you tell me why? Like I said, pretty new to this.

Brass mostly polishes in your hand, copper patinas a little better than brass, but I personally like the look of brass much more.

DO NOT DROP IT THOUGH. If it his just right, the tube can bend, making it difficult to remove the switch or re-install it. I dropped mine while working in my shop, had to use a brass punch to knock it back. Luckily I could fix it!

Gladly!

Since the SMPL has a hybrid connection (the battery touches the atomizer's positive pin) you don't want to use an atomizer where the positive pin on the atomizer is near-flush (or entirely flush, for that matter) to the positive pin's casing. The third atomizer in this picture is an example:

temp2.0x0.jpg

In this case, if there's ANY battery indentation (which is likely to happen from screwing atomizers onto the battery/the positive pin of the mod, if it wasn't a hybrid) you're actually completing the circuit through the side of the mod. Essentially, your battery will be making direct contact with the negative pin (bottom of the mod) and the mod's casing. This can, and likely will, result in a hard short, which can (and likely will) result in the battery venting/going into thermal runaway and (assuming the expansion is rapid enough) could turn your mod into a pipebomb.

I don't mean to frighten you by any means, and assuming you're doing things with half a brain you're never going to experience this, it's just good to be safe.

I hope there's a venting hole near the bottom? Helps prevent explosive accidents ;)

The SMPL has 6 vent holes on the switch itself. Very good venting on it. I run mine at a level that I would not recommend to others, and the battery stays cool. The tube can get a little warm, it is thick brass with good heat transfer.

I mentioned this in another thread, I doubt vent holes like this:

would prevent a mod from rapid expansion. I mean those are like, what.. 6mm holes? I highly doubt that's enough to prevent expansion (and subequently, explosion).

You guys are bumming out my new purchase high. That's it...I'm throwing it in the trash and going to 7-11 to get a Blu.

Hey now! That wasn't my intent at all. I just want to prevent a potentially dangerous situation from going down. Plenty of people (talking 99.9999%) use their SMPL with no problems whatsoever. It's the .001% that I'm worried about, and usually the people who make mistakes simply didn't know any better.

Knowledge is safety.

I'm just having fun. I really appreciate the education. Like I said, I'm here to learn.

Haha, wasn't sure of your sarcasm.

A lot of times people come here saying, "Hey new to vaping/the forum, trying something totally crazy and unadvisable, any advice?" and I'll respond with "YO, DON'T DO THAT PLEASE" and their retort will be, "Screw you! I came to the forum asking for unquestioning support! You're a jerk!"

I just don't wanna see people get hurt. Not because I care about your life or whatever, but because it'll make the rest of us look bad.

Great advice. I have several
Of these set ups as well. Kanger sub tank on a shark is always a win win
Do you have the dna 40 version? If yes. You might want to try out the ni200 coils and some temp control. It's pretty nice in the Kanger mini. I was running it with the Rba deck. And was kicking a stellar Vape. In the past few months I have been using bottom feeding devices. Just more of my overall style. But the spending money part will slow down when you start finding that perfect set up and great juice you love. Just takes time to get there. This site is amazing. The information and people are always great and on point.

Glad you quit the stinkys. Lol
