My next step in the vape path - a coil building class!

What is a B&M, a Brick and Mortar store, or a chain?

Yep, here on the forum B&M means a brick and mortar store. That confused me too, cause I've never heard that used before.

In any case, I'm a newbie with an ego-t and clearos, I was really interested to see the guy at my local vape shop showing another customer how to build a coil for an rba (or rda? I dunno) setup they were buying. I'm kinda debating buying some kanthal and trying to wrap new coils for my clearos, just to save a few bucks.

I don't know if it's the right step for you, but I'm glad that I got a chance to try coil building and plan to do a lot more of it (with more rebuildables, of course).

That's great! Hope it goes well and you have fun. My local B&M has a "build bar" (separate from the juice bar) and teaches coil building for tips. I learned some new stuff the other day and had a great time.

I wonder if we go to the same shop (Rancho vape lounge). They have one and I have been thinking of checking it out but it would be really cool if they offered classes in groups.

There's a local place here that does those classes too, after reading this I now don't think it's just a $$$ grab. I think I'll sign up next time. I think it's $25 as well with an atty.

Its a money grab, but its really a win / win. They teach you how to build basic coils. They upsell you on an RDA, and they sell you all their (ridiculously overpriced) building supplies after the class before you leave the shop. So you get some one on one time, you learn a skill, and you get some lunch, maybe meet a couple people make a friend or two and the shop makes some good money. Win / win. Sounds awesome. I wish there was a class at my local shop when I started. Youtube was pretty good, but a teacher is better.

Yeah. I think it's an awesome idea! I'm glad I went, although I still need tons of practice, of course. But they were discounting things pretty nicely to people who went to the class. But I'd already ordered Kanthal plenty cheap and have most of the tools either on hand or in transit. I just picked up some cotton and juice at the store. And I needed some juice anyway. Once they rang me up, I realized that they threw in the Japanese cotton for free! Like I said, this shop really has it together. They say that they are all about "building community" and, from what I can see, that's exactly what they're doing. For example, one of the builders that was on-hand is also the organizer of the local advocacy group. So, there's another way to get connected to other vapers.

It's called World of Vapor Indy, on 40 in Irvington. Really nice shop! Great people. Fantastic vibe. Check 'em out if you get a chance. The only issue I have is that I'm on the West side, so there are so many that are more conveniently located to me.

More shops should do this to introduce people who wouldn't normally go online into the rebuild able world.

Sounds like you had a great time and was exactly what you were looking for. And, there is nothing wrong with the Igo-W that can't be fixed with a slightly larger drill bit...still use it from time to time.

My B&M seems to have a similar goal, just not as organized. They have a tasting bar and several rebuilding areas. No formal classes, but the workers and vapers that hang out there are always building and helping people out. Their hardware is ridiculously priced, and I think they know that, but I get they need to make money some how.

That should be fun, and better way to learn that flying by the seat of your pants. Just built my first coils about three nights ago for my Kanger Protanks. It really wasn't bad, but I did it on my own and watching someone else would have been beneficial. One of the local B&M shops in my area did a class once but haven't seen anything on their website that they are doing this again anytime in the near future.

Thanks guys. One of the things I would suggest is to mention this to some of the shops in your area and try to get them interested. I have a couple of other favorite shops nearby that should offer a class like this, and I definitely plan to suggest it to them. I totally would go through another one (or 2). A different person's perspective would always be helpful.
