My old 510 kit needs to be replaced, but so much has changed in the past 4 years. How to decide?

Almost 4 years ago, I bought my first (and only) e-cigarette, a manual 510 kit, and it has lasted all that time with no issues. But it's finally time to replace it, as the 2 batteries no longer hold a decent charge, the finish is almost completely worn off, and I have only 1 working cartomizer.

I haven't really followed what's been going on in this world, so I was shocked to see how much has changed. Variable voltage / variable wattage PV's, huge lightsaber-sized batteries, tanks, clearomizers, bottom-coil...I'm lost.

Part of me just wants to buy another simple manual 510 or 510-like kit, but part of me also wants to try some of the newer technologies out there, but I'm not sure where to start.

I definitely do not want something so huge that it is delegated to a home-only PV. I found the Vamo V2 kit from my regular e-juice vendor, and it looks like a good introduction to the more-advanced PV's on the market today, but I am open to suggestions. I'd like to keep the cost for a new kit under $100 if possible, but might be willing to spend a little bit more if it is really worth it. Size-wize the Vamo V2 is about the largest I'm willing to go, because anything bigger would be a pain to haul around.

I am a very tech-minded person, a web programmer and database administrator by profession, and I'm also pretty handy with electronics -- nothing crazy, but I've done things like switching out the pickups on an electric guitar, building some simple gadgets with an Arduino, and the like.

I'd also like to support a local brick & mortar shop in central NJ if possible, so if anyone reading this is in the same area and know of a good shop please let me know. I'm having a bit of trouble finding any local shops. I certainly don't want to end up at a tobacco shop with a display case of Blu e-cigarettes that calls themselves a vape shop.

Any suggestions on what might be a good PV for me, as well as any articles or links that will help me catch up to what's happened the past 4 years in the vaping world, is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello
I have a ProVari so I think that is the best.
But I also have 8 other mods, and if you don't want to spend the money on a ProVari I would take a look at iTaste MVP V2 for $39.99
Innokin iTaste MVP V2.0 - 101 Vape
Heck of a deal for that little mod.
I really like the Innokin products too. I got the iTaste MVP V2, iTaste SVD, iTaste VTR, and the iTaste 134. And I like them all.

I know I've been very lucky for my old 510 to last as long as it did, so I certainly don't expect that it's replacement will last anywhere near that. I only go through about 10-15 mL of juice a month so we're talking very light use here. If whatever I get lasts even a year with that light amount of use I'll be happy. The Provari is way out of my price range. Even if it did last the rest of my life, at this point I'm not prepared to spend that much on a PV.

Thanks for the links for the store locators, very helpful!

I'll definitely consider the iTaste but I'm not too sure about the box design (purely on looks).

Hi and welcome to ECF (or welcome back). Sure is time for an upgrade. Must seem like you stepped out of a time machine. I am going to give you two links to two devices that will do you good and buy you all the time you need to take to see if you are interested in the whole vv/vw thing and they come in way under your budget. Most bang for your buck.

Innokin iTaste MVP V2.0 - 101 Vape
This option has a battery that will last you 1.5 to 2 days, or longer if you are not a heavy vaper. The only extra thing you need to buy is a wall adapter for the usb charger, extra heads for the iclear30 and some juice if you like. The battery is built in.

http://www.myvaporstore.com/Vision_Spinner_Joye_Ego_C_Twist_Combo_p/vvs-c.htm
This kit gives you 2 spinner 1300mah batteries and either 2 Evods or one each of an Evod and a vivi top coil. You will need that same wall adapter and extra heads for whichever device you choose. It has vv only. But I stopped smoking with this kit and after over 4 months of heavy vaping they are still going strong. I get a full day off one.

These two threads will help you get up to speed on what is popular in the juice arena. The Ahlusion thread I include because there are some experienced tobacco lovers that give detailed opinions and reviews on the tobaccos. There also is a wide variety of flavors and reviews of same to read through. This company is one of the best juice vendors out there.

I hope this all helps you out a bit. There is much, much more to read and catch up on. I suggest you do searches on the devices you are interested in. Check out the APV forum and vamo has its own sub forum I believe. All devices have their pros and cons. Only you can decide what is going to fit your needs.

Enjoy your new/next setup. Sounds like you have earned it many times over.

I would suggest as with a new vapor a variable voltage ego spinner battery
A blog just to give an idea for those with the "size issue" : Size Does Matter
1456667_10151989395695970_921291825_n.jpg

and then something that I've put together over the past year of some helpful info and where to get some cheap "starter" kits
New Vapor Starter Kits
Vaping is such a personal experience, so obviously everyone's perfect kit will be different
.....
Some things to keep in mind:
Try to stick to pv's (personal vapors) that have both the 510 and ego connections this way you have all kinds of options when it comes to juice delivery systems.

Variable Voltage (vv) = everyones taste is different so you can set your voltage up or down to help suit your needs as well as different juices and different juice delivery systems (cartomizers, tanks, ect) taste different at different voltages. (how many times can I say different)

Variable Wattage (vw) I haven't tried yet but assuming it is the same principle as stated above for vv.

Passthrough battery to be able to vape while charging.

the higher the mAh the longer the battery life

do you prefer a warm vape (top coil) or a cool vape (bottom coil)? top coil vs bottom coil tanks, to each their own...but go with glass or metal so that there's no worries about tank cracking juices.

As a Vamo user and an MVP 2 user, I would definitely have to say: I'd go with an MVP. It's smaller than the vamo in length, but hefty enough to not feel cheaply made. To me, it provides a better vape, and I don't feel like I have to fiddle with settings all the time, though I can if I want too. (I'm in the IT field, so I get ya.)

Going on battery life alone, this thing is a champ. I get right around 2 full days charge out of mine before it goes from green to yellow on the battery indicator on the front. And for $45 shipped, that's what I'd go with.

My Vamo V2, btb..I bought it about 6 months ago, and the finish is wearing off. I don't get the same battery life, and it's longer in the hand.

I have numerous mods but, I use my SS Vamo V2 the most. It has a 5 amp limit and is just a work horse of a sturdy, easy to use mod. The finish does not wear from the SS like it does with the chrome. Mine looks like the day that I bought it and that was at the beginning of this year.

Yeah, things have certainly come a long way in the last 4 years. You may want to try a Kanger Protank or one of the new Aspire Davide bottom dual coil tanks. My fave is the Aspire BDCs. They hold 3 mls of liquid and give very good flavor and vapor. The coils are easy to clean and reuse and just seem to keep going and going.

Good luck to you on whatever you choose!

For the 10ml of juice a month you use, if you were happy before I would go with something similar. People here are prone to recommending expensive gear regardless of anyone's requirements. With a large tank system you would either need to buy a lot of tanks or one flavour would last you a week or two.

It's not local and needs a few weeks for delivery though but it's cheap.

seems like your a very light vapor. a step up from what you got is a ego twist or vision spinner. or even the taste mvp vv/vw v3 small compact but packs a punch.
Innokin iTaste VV/VW V3

The Itaste vv 3.0 mentioned will last you for the next 5 years considering your usage. I have one and I use mine pretty solid all day. It will do everything you need. As far as Clearos go stick with a carto system like you have used or go with something like the Aspire ET-s or the Smoktech Aro Pyrex or Kanger Protank2 mini they are all bottom coil and are all pyrex so you don't have to worry about what kind of juice is in it.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Right now I'm leaning towards the iTaste MVP 2.0 kit with 2 iClear 16 clearomizers.

I'd also like to get a small/slim manual battery and charger that will work with the iClear 16 clearomizers for when I don't want to carry the large MVP around. But I'm a bit confused on what kind of battery I would need -- a 510 or an eGo?

On the info for the iClear 16 clearomizers, it says "This is the newest Dual Coil Clearomizer designed for the iTaste MVP but works with all 510 threaded eGo batteries or other 510 devices with an adapter."

So do I need an eGo-threaded or a 510-threaded battery? Would the variable-voltage eGo Twist battery work with these clearomizers?

My Vision Spinners have both ego and 510 threading and I am almost sure that the twist does also. I know the Smoktek Winders have both. I can use both the Evods and 510 attys on both batteries. I am sure Joyetech ego batteries would be the same. There are a lot of cheap clones floating around out there, those I would be more careful of the quality of mfg.

I think you will be very happy with the MVP2. I love mine. I also love my spinners and find them convenient to take out and about with me. I find the spinners easier for me to set the voltage on. The twist I find harder to see the tiny markings on the dial and that aggravates me when I am trying to see what I have it set at. I can see and set my vision spinners easier. I have been using both for over 4 months every day.

While you are ordering, pick up a couple of the 510 to ego adapters. They come in handy. I have one Kanger Evod that refuses to cooperate and connect on my MVP2. So I just attach the adapter and then the evod and I am all set and ready to vape. Also, if you decide to get a vamo down the road the adapter will come in handy to save your vamo threads.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Right now I'm leaning towards the iTaste MVP 2.0 kit with 2 iClear 16 clearomizers.

Before spaceballsrules beats me to it...

Kanger EVOD kit from Vape dojo: Kanger Evod Starter Kit

Excellent kit, excellent quality and very simple to use! All for $35 and you will not be disappointed! I went from 510's to this kit and it was like a whole new world! :)

I also have an MVP2 and you definitely won't go wrong with that either!
