After I switched to vaping my parents tried mine (svd with a Protank at the time) and asked for starter kits for christmas. They wanted a smaller style so I got them both joyetech ego starter kits. They both quit smoking and were vaping exclusively for a couple months. I just found out yesterday through my sister that my parents are smoking again. This disappoints me a lot. I jumped head first into vaping and turned it into a hobby. They both didn't want to get into it and wanted to stay budget minded and stay on the cheaper than smoking side of the line. I think this is where vaping failed for them.

The other issue is my mom has MS with constant vertigo. Rebuilding coils is something that she would have a real hard time with. This is very unfortunate because those of us that build our own coils know that rebuildables provide a much better vape than the more user friendly clearos and what not.

So I've decided I'm going to buy my mom a vtr and mod it to accept a kayfun. Since she can't build the coils herself I'll go over her house once a week and rewick and recoil her set up. Planning on using silica so that she can dry burn it to change flavors instead of needing to rewick it.

Anyways.. Just felt like posting because I'm frustrated for them...

I have the same problem with my mother. I live right next door and I keep her tanks cleaned and filled but I can't get her to quit buying the cigs. My father tried mine once and refused. Its harder sometimes with older people. I figured once she seen I was wasn't coughing any more that it would change her mind. I hate to see her smoke cause after every puff she goes in a coughing fit.

With your mother having MS a VTR might be too heavy for her.

Maybe it was their plan the whole time..........get you to come over once a week? The point on the rebuilded coils performing better....I re-built my first working coil last night for the PT1.....and as I vape with it this morning was thinking that it was working flawlessly. Didn't know if it was because I did it...or actual performance of the coil.....either way it's sweet.

Hello, Nate Rager! What a wonderful thing to do. I've got the opposite problem.

The youngest of my children at 34 yrs is not too keen on the "looks" of vaping. She IS in law enforcement and lives in a very small town across the state from me. Even tho gifted with an Evic, its Easy Head, shorter tubes, batteries, charger, juice, tanks, it looks as tho she won't take it up. I don't push, just asked that she return the gear if it's a definite "no" for her so's I can give to someone else.

We'll see. I'm 69. Smoked 53 yrs. Quit the same day I started vaping and am loving every minute of it! Maybe it's not so much age, but attitude toward new things?

Sorry to hear that Nate...I'm having the same issue with my wife. She made the first purchase, then we upgraded, I quit smoking and she just can't seem to let go of those last 5 or 6 smokes a day. I would love it if she would quit, but half a pack is better than a pack and a half! And I have learned from experience (17 years worth come June) that I can't force her into anything.

Stay positive and things will work out!

I know 5 smokers (close friends) who do not share my enthusiasm for vaping. 2 roll their own and 1 has an uncle who owns a vape store. The other two talk the talk but don't walk the walk. I cannot figure out why me and not them. But in the end it is a personal decision and all you can do is as you stated, make sure your mom has the means and the rest is up to her. Good luck.

It HAS to be something that the person wants to do. Trying to force it would be tough, possibly with negative results. If I didn't want to quit smoking so bad I never would have started vaping, and now I don't even miss my cigarettes.

Try talking to her to see if she is at least willing to try the kayfun, and it might even be more worth it to get a VV/VW mod for her as well. It might even be easier for her if you stick with an ASPIRE or PT so she can change out her own coils. The last thing you want is for her to burn out a coil and start smoking again because you were too busy to go over and rebuild it when she needed it.

I stopped smoking the day I started vaping and I will never go back to cigs. I am 70 and smoked a pack and a half a day. The thing is I really, really wanted to stop smoking because I was tired of the smell and the mess and the omg I am out of cigs/lighter, I must run to the drugstore now, no matter what. But I had an even better reason and that was $$. Being retired was a huge cut in my income and I wanted to spend money on things I actually needed or on things I wanted to do vs burning up $7+/day in an ashtray. Choosing vaping over smoking has nothing to do with age, it has to do with CHOOSING because you have a reason to want to give up the cigs. Without that, the cigs win, I think, because they have years of "comfort" behind them, to say nothing of all that addicting crap.

Its hard when one does not truly want to quit. I had a similiar issue with my mother. She had some spots on her lungs that docs werent sure what they were and wanted to re visit in 2 months which got both of us worried. I got her to vape by giving her my old Joyetech eGo twist and a couple of ce4 clearos. She vaped for about a month but got annoyed with lack of "tobbaco" taste. HHV juices didnt satisfy as a analog replacement. She hated non tobacco flavors... eventually she tried those junk NJoy Kings because of the look and feel and now shes back on analogs with no interest in going back. She refuses to cold turkey or use patches or anything else either. Once someomes mind is made up thats it. I fear she will only re consider once it is too late

The hand to mouth experience was a huge part for me. I am sure even an EGO would have been an alien device in my hands. I would suggest a good quality cig-a-like with high nicotine. 18-24mg. I don't think I would have quit with a large device.

I have the same thoughts with the weight of the VTR although it's my preferred carry around device. A MVP 2 might be a better selection for the purpose.

Most folks that have been smoking that long prefer the simplicity of just pulling out a cigarette, lighting it and enjoying the smoke.

Just make it as simple as you possibly can for them and they'll more likely be successful with the conversion.

I still smoke a few analogs and I just find anything but the cig-a-likes, including the eGo, too complicated and finicky to really motivate me to quit.

I smoke partly because its Neolithic technology stuff and dead simple. While I'm intrigued by the hobby-ish aspect of vaping and rebuilding coils and so forth, my smoke break is one of those moments I don't want to be clouded with technology. I think this is why 9/10 my eGo stays home and I take my Mistic or my Volt out with me. So, I second the recommendation for a cig-a-like.

I was mainly leaning toward the vtr because of how the kayfun would be recessed into it making it a shorter vape. I already own an mvp and when I put my russian on top of it it's a pretty long and awkward mod. Maybe a variable reo would be a good fit? I haven't used one yet. I already know the performance of kayfun styled ones is reliable.

My brother smokes at least a PAD and claims that vapor "makes him sick." Quitting would help him so much, and he knows it.

He has quit cold turkey before for years at a time but there's some kind of vicious cycle going on with him. He doesn't feel well so he's home all day so he smokes more, then he feels sicker so he won't go out and do anything so he smokes more then he's even sicker.

Some days I wish I could just drag him outside for fresh air and a little activity just to break the cycle. Ultimately though he's bigger than me.
