Hi all!

This is my first post here but I've been lurking on the forum for the past 6 months since I started vaping.

I smoked 2 packs a day for about 14 years and during that time I tried to quit maybe 6 times, mainly due to pressure from my wife and family. I didn't really want to quit as I loved it but knew that it was the right thing to do so I tried everything, gum, patches, inhalers, hypnosis, etc. Everytime, I could only last 2 or 3 days without smoking and every time I started again I thought: Fk it! I don't care if I die from this, at least I'll die happy...

One year ago I had a panic attack and I knew it was due to my bad habits, little sleep, junk food, drugs, drinking, stress and of course, smoking. I decided I had to do something about it so I started eating and sleeping better and tried to avoid drugs and stressing but I was terrified to quit smoking, this time I started cutting back and was able to go down to 1 pack a day without much effort but lower than that was really difficult.

My first encounter with an e-cig was about 4 years ago when my mom gave me a Joye 510 kit that she had bought at the mall. The kit came with 2 cartomizers, one with nicotine and the other without, I tried it for a couple of days but it didn't do much for me, little flavor, little vapor and zero throat hit. Needles to say, I stashed it on the attic never to be seen again.

Then this past August while I was on vacation in France, I read an article on Gizmodo about the top 10 e-cigs (the disposable types) and it piqued my interest so I went to the tabac shop down the street and bought a disposable. It was better than what I remembered about the Joye, better flavor, more vapor but still no throat hit...
Once I got back to Mexico I started reading more and more about e-cigs and I found this forum, I was overwhelmed by the amount of information and the huge variety of products available but was encouraged by the results people were getting so I kept on reading and finally decided to place an order for a Lavatube, a Vivi Nova and a couple of juices in different strengths.

Once I got my kit I could not believe it! It was the same as smoking. No! It was better than smoking! From the start I was getting huge amounts of vapor, great flavor and shocking throat hit! I was getting dizzy, I could not stop vaping, that night before going to bed I discovered I still had 15 cigarettes left on my pack, I had only smoked 5! From then on, I kept alternating between smoking (between 3 and 5 cigs per day) and vaping for about a month and then one day I just stopped buying packs. The transition went very smoothly and there was no effort at all. To this day I still smoke a cigarette from time to time (one per week or less) when I'm with friends that smoke but overall I think that I'm already on the other side.

I think I've spent more on vaping than what I used to spend when smoking but I think that's mainly because there's so much stuff to try out and because I'm curious and I like to tinker with stuff. These days I'm vaping Halo's Tribeca and Torque 56 at 18mg on an Nhaler Curve with a Kick and a Phoenix V2 dripping RBA and I'm in heaven!

Welcome to ECF!

Glad that you found a setup that works for you and that you are off the smokes. Getting started in vaping can be rather expensive getting the right mechanical gear and experimenting with different juices to find what works best for you. But once you find that setup and juices, one can manage their vaping budget to where it is far less than what was spent on cigarettes.

And who can put a price on your health?

Thank you for your kind welcome.

I guess I could've stopped spending as much long ago. A Phoenix and an Ego twist, juice, wire and cotton gauze is all I really need. As you say, it's the experimenting that get's expensive but there is so much stuff to try!

And yes, health and the peace of mind of knowing we're doing the right thing are priceless! :D

Thank you!
I think the hardest part about panic attacks is the anxiety that comes after, not knowing if or when another is going to hit you.

I kind of agree with that. I guess I learned to calm myself down by saying "I'm okay. I'm fine. It's alright." Until I felt better:) Fortunately I haven't had a panic attack in quite awhile.
