You see it all the time. People tossing cigarette butts out the window of their car. Individuals that would never think of "littering". Respectful, law-abiding adults; LITTERING!

I live in Los Angeles, we have beaches, and when you go, what is one of the main things washed up on the beach? BUTTS. I have heard that cigarette butts make up more litter than any other litter - from people in the city tossing their cig butts out and then the .... washing into the drain system straight into the ocean.

Started thinking about it tonight and did some research. Guess what? TRUE FACT.

"Cigarette butts are the most common form of plastic litter on the beaches of the U.S. and world-wide. Toxic chemicals can leach out of the cigarette filters."

Another very good reason we need to get more smokers vaping.

I agree, there are butts everywhere. My friend lost his house and everything inside because a driver on the highway flicked a cig out the window. By the time his dad saw the smoke it was to late, the whole house went up in minutes. Just last week right by my house, they had to shut down the highway for 4hrs because a hay truck caught on fire when someone flicked a cig out the window and it just so happened to land inside the hay.

I agree completely, I never just tossed mine, They either went straight to trash or to an ashtray, I live in a apt complex and even when I was smoking I hated seeing butts everywhere and I still do see them. Especially all over our breezeways, Ive complained more than once and even if with our landlord now giving people hefty fines it does not seem to change anything.

I am/was a tosser

Reason is that the butts stink. Simple as that.

I would put the ash in the ashtray and flick the ..... At summer when it was dry(hardly ever where I live), i would lay it gently on top of the ash in the ashtray. When certain it was gone out, I let the flicking commence.

BTW: Out and about, I would carry the .... to an ashtray if I knew of some. If not - gutter time.

Not that I have never done the same....and I totally understand the "stink" factor...heck, that' a big part of why we're all vaping now! : )

I say we give a FULL PARDON to all and any who switch over to vaping.

Cheers!

I emptied my ashtray every morning into my afternoon paper coffee cup when I stopped for my morning coffee. Of course if it was full, I'd dump it in my morning coffee cup when I got my afternoon coffee. I live on a dirt road with brush near the road, I don't want a brush fire burning down my house. One reason I put my house 130 feet from the road & don't allow dry brush near the house on all four sides.

I agree. I hate it. When I smoked, I took special care to never leave a .... lying on the ground. At our beaches people just stick their butts in the sand, sometimes a pile of them, then walk off. It's disgusting and it takes them forever to
bio-degrade, if they ever even do.

It's not just cigarette butts though. People leave their trash everywhere. I was walking behind a couple on the beach boardwalk and she took the paper wrapper of her ice cream cone just let it fall to the ground without a care in the world. It wasn't an accident, she just dropped it like the ground was her waste basket. I said loudly I wonder what her house looks like?

I go to the beach a lot and I get so ticked off at the way people leave their butts, cans, bottles, paper right there in the sand..and it seems the main culprit are families with children, and it isn't the KIDS doing it, it's the parents. You would hope that parents would set a better example. Most of them don't. I have also been known to pick it up and throw it away taking care that they can see me, to let them know they are nasty for not doing it themselves. It seems the most unforgiveable when parents do it because they are paving the way for more careless people when their own kids become adults having seen how trashy their parents were.
