My PT is shocking me

Went out bare foot and used my PT on the patio. I don't use a cart. I just drip and put my lips on the atomizer. The drn thing is shocking me. Guess I'll have to start using an empty cart.

Doesn't do anything for throat hit.. too bad.

Absolutely should not be happening. There's got to be a short or open ground somewhere between the electic meter and your PV. Are you plugging it into a computer or to an outlet/extension cord?

However you have it plugged in, does original point of power from your wall outlet have a ground connection (a 3rd hole)? Let us know.

Probably static shock, I'm getting popped 20 times per day at this time of the year.

Everything is getting me, the car, the front door, the fridge, the dogs, you name it and it's shocking me.

Definately sounds like a short. you shouldn't get shocked from tailpiping, barefoot or not. I'd contact the supplier for a replacement.

I only seem to get shocked when the PT is plugged into a usb power adapter. The adapter itself is a two prong, no ground plug.
I suspect the PT has the polarity reversed on the atomizer connector. I presume hot side should be the inside connection but this thing has it on the outside ring.

It's not a problem with the PT.. it's a problem with the USB adapter.

The USB adapter should have an isolation transformer, and no path to "hot" (line) or "neutral".

This is kinda scary actually.

Get another usb adapter and make sure the plug has three prongs.

I tried a couple different ac adapters and I get the same result. Contacted the vendor and they're sending me a replacement. I really wanted to rip the thing apart and see what the problem was but getting it replaced seems the better idea.

It actually happened to me when I tried my own 6v mod. Is it more like a static shock or more like licking a 9v battery?

Pretty mild version of a 9v battery. We're only talking ~4v but it was enough to get the tiniest arc off the tube when it was a hair width from my lips.

All you need is a transformer somewhere in the circuit wired wrong and BOOM , you are hooked to AC 120 v !!!

It's just a BAD idea in practice

This is quite normal do not be alarmed!! It happens on some computers and mains transformers and I remember talking about it here long ago when passthroughs first came out. Something to do with Earth(ground as the Americans call it) leakage It doesn't happen on USB batteries though! I can't remember what the science behind it was other than a tiny amount of electricity (as electricity does) wanted to go through you back to the ground even though it should go back to the transformer and something else about magnetic fields but I can't remember that!!

Floating grounds shouldn't happen. There really shouldn't be any current on the atomizer tube when the switch is not pressed. I'm not going to take it apart to see what's up with it since I'm getting it replaced.

I did not get shocked but I have an iphone / ipod adapter using PT and the thing is litterally "alive". It was like this with two completely different PT.

I needed the hit though so I kept using it even though it was quite uncomfortable in my hand and buzzing around my lips. Fortunately I dont use it anymore though cos i've got a Stick and just use that as a PT.
