perfect foie gras here i come! seriously though, thanks. :hmm: i found a couple units online that would be large enough for canning, in the <$500.00 range. it looks like temp controls are not that expensive, a type of thing with a sensor that you plug a rice cooker or similar into--but didn't find any similar ala cart option for a circulating device. didn't really know what to search for in that respect.

update on cart: the cart i was using (a new blank from V4L) decided to start leaking all over my hand at 4 AM. (no, i don't sleep.) that is a pain in the ..., and hasn't happened before to me. since we're only on day 2 i'm starting with a new cart, not a blank this time, but have already popped of cap and o ring & will top off as usual. this is what i typically do anyways. i don't know if the other cart was messed up or whatever, i don't feel like finding out right now, so--

today's day 1, with a prefilled cart to be topped off as i feel like it.

Umm, no. Unless you want them to die in a finite period.

Eventually the element oxidizes through. I've gone through two elements now.

lol, you respond to every response i make.

If you want it to last 3 days, 1 week, 3 weeks it will last with care and several washes. If you want it to last 6 months, then yes its eventually going to give out.

While i understand that some are on a tight budget is it really necessary to reuse your carts 50 times? When you factor in carts and juice you are looking at a significant savings over cigarettes.

I mean when you were smoking did you save your filters, go buy roll your own tobacco and papers and re-use the filters?

Just using the carts 5 times reduces the cost exponentially. 10 times and your looking at pennies per equivalent of a pack of cigarettes.

I think getting the most out of the cartos is important for many people. And even though I do compare vaping with smoking re: costs, I also have to remember that smoking was a complete waste of my cash and was killing me at the same time. (If only I had all the money I've spent on cigs, I'd be a lot richer and a lot healthier, but it's too late now.)

So, somehow, comparing the cost of cigs to vaping doesn't seem quite right, somehow. I guess because both of them are habits born out of an addiction and neither one is necessary for sustaining life. I guess you could almost put vaping at a hobby level for many, even though it does feed the addiction and keeps us from harming ourselves with cigarettes.

I personally love that I can keep reusing my cartos over and over, because I have a mod that if I buy the attys here in the U.S., they cost about 10.00 or more each, with no guarantees on them and it might last one minute or for many weeks. Also, the more we reuse the cartos, the fewer of them end up in the landfills. I'm sitting here looking at my carto collection and it is a lot of cartos that I really hate to toss out if I can get more out of them.

Eh, I don't know why I wrote a novel here, just thinking out loud, I guess.

pugz, i'm not real eager to have billions of cartos in landfills, either. i love that they *are* disposable, and inexpensive, but that's no reason to take things to a consume-and-toss point, either. it's nice for human beings, occasionally, now and then, to try for a happy medium.

jebey, i don't think it's really about obsessively making a carto last forever, it's just that it takes no more effort to refill it the 50th time as it does the 5th--and if a simple change in routine makes that possible, why not do it? i'm not saying anyone needs to-or-must care about this the same way, but it's just... in my personality to want to know.

Maybe shes testing it like you Jebey.

Keyz im familiar with what Belletrist is doing and im glad she is doing it. I for one would love to see exactly how long it will last. I personally dont have the patience to examine my carts like belle is going to do.

Im still using my cart from the experiment but will probably throw it out tommorrow. I have nearly 200 empty carts half of which are brand new so for me personally im happy getting 5 fills in them. I know i can get more than that if i choose but at the moment i dont choose to. If Belle gets an insane number of days, fills with her cart then i might increase my fills from 5 to 10 but at the moment im happy with the use i get out of them.

basically H, i remove the cap and o-ring from a cart. then i make a new top for it by taking one of the cart-condoms, and punch a hole in the top of it. i pop that on and vape.

instead of vaping it dry, i just vape till it's not soggy anymore, and then i top it off with a couple drops of liquid. repeat, repeat, repeat.

day two, all's well.

i have read through the introduction description of the method 3 times... and still am not catching on. :( my brain just can't picture it.

Take a look at this picture:

Condoms.jpg

The upper-right condom shows the hole.

Now picture the one on it's side under that cut in half, creating a short condom and a "ring". The "ring" stays on the carto, but you can pop off the part with the hole to refill.

Belle, I would just like to say thanks! I have been vaping on/off for a year and a half. I didn't actually quit smoking until 2 months ago when I found V4L and the cartomizer. I didn't have any luck with refilling though so I had pretty much given up and decided that I would be spending the same amount of money as smoking and just taking the health benefits.

I used to drip and it would last a couple of weeks until I got tired of dripping, taking 10 drags, dripping some more, 10 more drags, blech! After I found cartomizers I was very pleased with the functionality, I never thought of putting the two together.

It took this thread to open my eyes and realize that they could mesh pretty good. I just started with this a couple days ago but so far I'm pretty pleased. I have a watermelon carto that I had run dry a couple of weeks ago and I pulled it back out, popped off the tops and dripped 10 drops of watermelon juice I had laying around right in there and popped my t-tip leftover from my dripping days back on and it was alive again and lasted a good while. It started backing off in flavor after a few hours so I popped off the t-tip and dripped 10 more. It was a new revelation to me, and it will please wifey who was starting to get frustrated with amount I was dropping on e-cigs.

I think I was so sick of dripping that I didn't even think of combining them. Dripping with cartomizers is my new favorite! I'll still take fresh carts for going out, but as I'm a web developer that works from home that will only be a few times a week (until our local co-op workspace opens that is, can't wait!)

I just placed an order for a pack of butterscotch lows and five 5ml bottles of low juice (I figure 1 cart and 1 5ml bottle will last me 3 days, so 2 weeks supply for $25 as opposed to $60)

One question, how are you guys getting such good punch outs in the condoms? Those pics Pawpaw posted look like perfect cutouts, I can never get mine to look even close to that.

thanks for the pic pawpaw!

Thanks. I stole it! :D

Um... I stole the pic from a suppler's website. They sell them that way. They're much thinner than the V4L condoms, but work the same.

It's not worth it to just order those condoms with the holes. The supplier is located in China, which makes the shipping too high and it take too long.. :nah:
