This is a (not so) brief review of the eleaf Invoke kit, sent to me by @BettyC, from CVapor. The contest was a little while ago, but when my mod did not arrive, BettyC so kindly looked into the matter and it hadn’t been delivered and immediately sent out a kit via DHL, while thoughtfully remembering that my color choice had been silver. The mod is indeed silver and I received it a couple days ago.

First impressions of the kit were favorable, it’s lightweight without being rickety, and everything was nicely finished with a very impressive design and thought to features. I really like the way the mod looks, and even when filled with fresh batteries it still felt very light and compact in the hand, and was easy to get up and vaping with very little fuss.

The kit comes with two information/safety sheets, including a warning about using batteries with torn casings as they are unsafe, as well as a warning for the tank about making sure the atomizer was tightly screwed together, how to replace coil heads safely and when to refill. On the other side, types of coil heads available and wattage recommendations for each coil available was listed, including flavor changes and cloud changes. Since this is a starter kit, I actually appreciated the nod to safety quite a bit and was pleased they were included (along with of course a user manual for the tank and kit).

There is also a spare replacement tank for the kit, a 0.3 installed coil and a 0.2 secondary coil. Wattage ranges for all the coils are between 50 (lowest) to 90 (highest) which I felt were reasonable options for a sub0hm starter kit and for a two battery mod.

The mod itself feels nice and solid in the hand, the settings were easy to play around with, and the mod will go all the way to 1.0 watts and to 220 watts and will not spin around to 0, which actually is a nice feature as once a user starts changing wattage, it will rise and fall quite rapidly so it’s easy to adjust on the go. Fire button is nicely placed for ease of use and unless needing to read the display, is equally easy to use in each hand. Fire button is solid and does not rattle. Display screen is easy to read and will stay on for a time after fire button is pressed, I believe this time can be shortened if desired. Up and down buttons are below the display screen and clearly labelled. Batteries did not rattle or move around and it has a surprisingly small (but comfortable) form factor in the hand. The mod itself is quite light so it’s a very easy carry mod.

I filled the tank using the 0.3 coil that was preinstalled, and primed it slowly and was able to get a serviceable vape at 45 watts, although it wouldn’t be what I would consider a cool vape, it was a comfortable vape. I think with the lowest resistance coil and a smaller drip-tip, this might be a tank I could actually use although it is designed for sub0hm use. The tank itself was solid, with a very easy topfill and an easily adjusted airflow ring (which can also be removed) but does provide a lot of airflow flexibility. My one complaint about the tank is it is rather small capacity, and tended to heat up quickly, even at 45 watts. I do think the size is the one area that could be improved upon, as some of those coils are designed for rather high wattage and I could see the tank emptying quickly, though it does have some elements of a crossover tank, as I stated. With that said, that was my one complaint about this tank, although I do love how the design centers the tank in the middle of the mod making for a very comfortable setup. I could see new vapers really enjoying this setup as a “starter” sub0hm setup that is compact, easy to carry, easy to vape, maintain and refill. Design was quality, meaning that everything felt solid (even if very light) nothing rattled and everything assembled with ease.

To get a feel for the mod using tanks I normally vape, I used my Vandy Vape Berserker tank on the mod, and it was a very pleasant mod to hold, it doesn’t tip over easily, and I enjoyed the MTL vape of the berserker at a low wattage setting, it was extremely easy to use and I enjoyed the vape quality a great deal. The manual was easy to read and understand regarding switching between various modes and user protections. Sub-parameters are included in this: the mod can be set to Total vaping puffs/time/ and AMP (current amp) and one can be displayed on the main interface.

A USB charger was included and it is stated that the USB port can be used for charging and updates. The batteries are easy to remove and I will most likely use external chargers for them, but it’s good to note that it is passthrough if needed, as a starter kit.

Various user protections include: Atomizer low alert, Atomizer short-circuit and No atomizer protection, low voltage protection and Temperature protection—meaning if using in temp mode once the atomizer reaches the pre-set temperature, that will be displayed on the display screen but vaping can continue. If the temp exceeds the set temperature, Temperature Alert will be displayed and vaping will be halted. There is also a “weak battery” alert displayed once the batteries reach 2.9 V or below, the screen will display “Weak battery” and the output power will be automatically reduced. There is also an “imbalanced” alert, meaning that if the voltage difference between the two batteries is equal to or more than 0.3 V that will be displayed and the mod will request that both batteries be restored to full charge (by external charger) or a fresh set of batteries inserted. If batteries are installed incorrectly a “check battery” alert will occur and the mod will not vape, but request that the user check the batteries. There is also a “charge error alert” which will occur if no charge is happening with the USB plugged in. A “Check USB alert” will occur if the voltage of the USB charger is more than 5.8V if plugged in via USB to charge or while passthrough vaping.

One interesting feature of the mod is that it displays the status of BOTH batteries, and I noticed almost immediately that one battery was dropping faster than the other, or so it appeared on the display. Both batteries were oriented with positive ends toward the top of the mod, and I’m not sure if it was the display feature, or whether the mod was using more power from one battery than another or if there was no real imbalance going on (an alert did not arise) but it will be something I will keep an eye on as I continue using the mod. It was immediately noticeable and it was nice to find out that if batteries became imbalanced, a user alert would occur.

ETA: This mod did vape with the battery orientation incorrect, which I was able to fix easily but did account for the display. When I realized that and inserted the batteries correctly the drain was equalized, although I don't think it SHOULD have vaped in that fashion, so that was of concern. Once I identified the issue, the battery drain was resolved. Do note that it is very hard to see inside the mod regarding orientation, so it's important to note that this is another 1 positive, 1 negative battery.

Overall, I really enjoyed getting to know this mod. It reinforced my enjoyment of Eleaf products, I think they are fantastic devices for the price, and a lot of thought had gone into the design (for both a new user and in general). I do think this would make an excellent starter kit for a new sub0hm vaper who perhaps wants some flexibility in their vape, as there are multiple coil options. The tank was sturdy and of nice design. Even though the drip tip was wider bore and I was using a 0.3 coil, I was able to get an enjoyable vape, enough so that as a MTL vaper I didn’t immediately consider who might have a use for it, as I could see the highest resistance coil obtainable and replacing the drip-tip size being a potentially usable tank for me, which says a lot about this kit’s flexibility. With a higher resistance coil at perhaps 25-30 watts, I could see this being a very serviceable vape for “airy” MTL though it is clearly designed more for sub0hm vapers.

I really enjoyed the build quality, the design elements and protections, the small form factor and the light weight of the mod (while in no way being flimsy). I know the mod is something I will definitely use, and am happy to have.

Thank you so much @BettyC and CVapor for holding this contest and sending this mod. Also shout out to Eleaf for designing a “true” starter kit that contains multiple protections, easy to read instructions, and warning cards that were informative and helpful. I know that I will be using the mod for sure, and may even try the highest resistance coil to use as a kit. Very enjoyable experience and I would 100% recommend this mod for ease of use and very nice design. My one complaint for the tank would be it’s size relative to the coil power inside, but it does have an extremely easy topfill system, so refilling isn’t difficult by any means.

Thanks again, I really enjoyed receiving and using the kit. It really has many, many things going for it, and I think would indeed make a great starter kit for a new vaper or one who wants to start using sub0hm vaping.

Thanks for reading, if you got this far...

My silver finish Eleaf Invoke mod arrived from FastTech yesterday, and I've been using it steadily since with a variety of MTL and DL tanks. Works well, looks nice, legible screen, very compact and it's really inexpensive for a contemporary, dual battery mod - currently under $30 (mod only) at FastTech. Thanks to Anna for showcasing it here.

I think it would be a fairly friendly pocket-carry. It really was one of the lighter mods I have had (to be fair, the mods I have and like include things like the Steampunk 120, LOL) but I like that even though it isn't heavy, it has a nice quality feel to it... Like the centered tank as well :)
