My thoughts on the eGo Mega/XL and eGo T (and 510s and M601s)

Ok, I'm not going to do a full review. A lot of people have eGos and there are tons of reviews out there. What really can I add? The battery life beats my 401, 118, 601 and 510? No kidding. (Thank you, Captain Obvious.)

As some of you may have read in my other threads, I am looking for the Ultimate Starter Kit for newbies. If I'm going to recommend, and/or purchase for, an e-cig to someone - especially those who have not done the research themselves - I want something that works right. And works right OUT OF THE BOX.

I've been vaping for a year and a half now, and I'm done. I've become an expert at modding carts, fillers, dripping, dipping, PG/VG ratios, atty cleaning... what have you. I don't care to do it any more. I'm a busy person and I have better things to do with my time. And I'm REALLY sick of feeling like I've constantly washed my hands in e-juice.

So this is what I've been doing for the last couple hours:

In front of me I have an eGo 650 mAh auto battery, an eGo 650 mAh manual battery, and the 510 manual battery Kat gave me. I didn't originally intend on using it for this comparison, but hell... it's here. I also have my 601 battery, but no atty for it.

Interestingly enough, the blue eGo atty I have has some minor manufacturing defects - the top of the cone is a bit too wide so the cart fits loosely and it threads a little weird onto the battery. Because of this, it will actually take my 601 battery. I know it shouldn't, but it does screw on and it works. (Yes, it looks hilarious.) Weird. But I digress...

As far as attys/carts go, I have a 510 carto, a 510 LR carto, 2 Mega/XL (Type A) Cones, and the eGo T (with the corresponding carts for the attys). I also have a Delrin driptip for the XL cones.

I've swap-tested every combination I can think of (yes, even the XL atty on the 601 battery) and I've used the same two juices in every combination - Crystal PG Havana Cigar in 30mg and Crystal VG Mountain Due in 24mg. I did not mod anything and tested with the stock filler on both carts and cartos. Here are my thoughts:

The 510 and 601 batteries I'm not even going to discuss, as I said earlier, we all know the eGo is the Energizer Bunny in comparison.

The 510 carto is pretty much useless, IMHO, also. I hate it. (It is entirely possible that this one was faulty, or that I could have fiddled with it to get it to work better, but I just don't care to.) Nuff said. The driptip just marginally better. Now as far as the 510 LR carto, the XL and the T attys? I'm finding I can get comparable TH, flavour and vapour out of the three. And with EITHER eGo battery. Now keep in mind here that I have been using, and prefer, auto batteries for a year and a half, so it may be just that I know how to get the best results out of an auto.

Now that was just to start... The 510 LR carto, although performs well in terms of TH, vapour and taste, doesn't last long before it needs to be refilled. The XL attys and carts win hand down. However, I only got through half a cart of juice (if that) on the XL before taste went to BLECH. The wicking in the carts with stock filler leaves much to be desired. Now, I may at some point decide to mod the cart and/or filler (was thinking about the ZFM before I heard about the tanks), but as this test was for out of the box usability. Meh.

The eGo T atty and tanks, now... brilliant. Still going strong. Every drag as consistent as the last. I have had no problems with leaking so far - in fact, the only way I can get juice to come out of the tank once I pull it off the atty is by either shaking it, or tapping it on the table. And even then it's just a few small drops.

The only problem I have with this system is that you need a syringe to fill the tanks. (I'm NOT pulling off the stupid little cap and breaking a nail.) But, all in all, I think that's a small price to pay. I'll just fill up my tanks ahead of time.

And on that note, hot switching tanks on these is a breeze. Like I said, I tested both Havana PG and Mountain Due VG. After a couple drags the flavour of the switched tank starts coming right through. I did not need to blow out my atty before switching at all. I also did not have a problem with the VG wicking to the atty from the tank. Not sure if this is because of the brand of juice, or if I got v2 of the atty, but whatever. For now, it is working.

So the clear winner for me? The eGo 650 mAh auto battery with the eGo T atty and tanks. I may not recommend auto batteries for every user, but the tank system definitely gets two thumbs up from first impressions. If the performance continues the way that it has so far, I will easily and eagerly recommend it - for both newbies and experienced vapers alike.

My search is over. (Until the next best thing comes along...)

Press the e-juice bottle tip HARD against the hole in the tank (make sure you puncture the "membrane" 1st) keep it dead straight, and apply constant pressure it will fill like that.

Takes some practice, its best to wrap a Kleenex around it the 1st few times, but it saves carrying a syringe with you, or if you are like me and are just to busy to go looking for it.

I'm looking to pick up an ego starter kit soon (I am a newb to e-cigs). I was looking at a couple of online sites to purchase from. One being Liberty Flights in the US and Happy Vaper in Canada. LF prices are much better even with the exchange (not sure about shipping).

I don't know however if I can order from the US and risk customs intercepting my order since it appears nicotene juice is banned in Canada? Can anybody shed some light on this?

Also, should i go with the XL attys or ego T? Or since I am a newb just test the stock atty and go from there? How about carts for this unit? Where/what should I get?

Zeus, you can get it from LF but you'll probably wait a couple weeks. Just make sure there's no juice in your order, when ordering from the USA it's better to keep juice and hardware packaged separately.

You'll save about $20 and gain 2 weeks wait, plus if anything breaks you'll be without gear for 4 weeks or more (lol). I chose to support our Canadian vendors, had my kit in 2 days

I vote for HV or any Cannuck vendor, they're great folks that will take care of you. All things considered its' worth that little bit of extra cash. Just my :2c:

PS - I would stick with the regular 510 atty for your first kit. They work great and are easy.

thanks for the reply dopeh....2 weeks for my first e-cig? no way! I'll take the HV route and order now!

I got more questions....please bare with me!

- Where do I get nicotene liquid from then? What nic potency should i start with? I smoke DM lights btw.
- For my order at HV, what flavour(s) do you recommend to get me started from them?
- Is there anything else I need to add to my order? I was looking to pick up a drip tip as well
- Do I need a syringe?
- What ratio of PG/VG should I start with?

I agree, but I'd go manual (just cause I like them LOL), and I open the little tanks and just pour the juice in and put the cap back on. There's a ridge on either side.

Put your fingernail under that ridge, and flip it off (don't try to pull it...keep your hand palm down and stick a thumbnail under the ridge and flip forward and up). Easy. And when you put it back on, it snaps tight.

I've been using the same tank for 3 days now. LOL You can rinse it out, dry with a Qtip, refill with new juice, and snap the cap back on. No need at all for a syringe!

...please bare with me!
Sorry, only with Mrs dopeh.

-There are many Canadian nic juice vendors: ePuff.ca JuicyClear Evapers Vapables Electrovapors VaporsKitchen to name a few. If possible, get some varying strengths since every person's needs vary, regardless of their smoking habits. Go for 24mg and 12mg or something.

-I wouldn't suggest mixing your own liquid just yet, but if you like menthol get some Perfumer's Apprentice Menthol Drops. 1 or 2 drops into 5-10ml of any juice to give it a menthol kick. Also masks flavours you don't like lol

-By all means get a drip tip, you will find yourself using it when you tire of filling carts/cartos whatever. I would suggest an eGo 510 kit, drip tip, and a 510 Low Resistance atty to start. See what you like.

-You don't need a syringe.

-Juices are mostly premixed but if they let you pick I personally go 80/20. PG gives more TH, VG more vapor. Even if you smoke Light cigs, you WANT TH.

Hope that helps

lol @ bare

So I went ahead and ordered an ego kit from HV. I added a simple rounded drip tip, and a few differnt flavours (3 ml bottles) to test out. I just realized, do I need to mix these flavaours with anything or just use as is.

Yeah those flavours are for mixing with nic/PG/VG. That's JUST the flavouring on HV. They sell premixed juice as well, but zero nic. As for the flavours you got, you'll need some flavorless nic juice, and some PG, VG, or both. You can check out the DIY section of the forum, lots of useful info and recipes.

FWIW, I really recommend you use premade, ready to vape nic juice from one of the vendors, especially if you're quitting analogs.

Well I'm relatively new to vaping, started in Nov 2010.

I tried carto's... what a pain in the ...., and was far from impressed with flavor and TH. I moved on to dripping, WOW, what an improvement. Only down side, you have to bring a bottle of your favorite juice everywhere you go... and the fact that you are dripping every 2 mins when you are vaping. From my experience, if you are going to drip, GET A LR atty, way better than a standard atty, on a stock eGo kit.

LR atty's. Well the 510 ego LR atty is really good, but I've now tried a 306 LR atty (fits perfectly on the ego 510 bats) and what an amazing vape. TH is awesome, I cut from 24mg Nic to 18 easy, same TH, and improved taste.

If you are placing an order, drop the extra $15 bucks, get a 306 LR, and a drip tip. I promise you WON'T regret it! :)

This thread is full of great tips, and the advise here is worth the read for any new vaper.

I just order some eGo T's and am very anxious to try them. Seems to be the best overall atty on the market at the moment. Experience of dripping without the hassle. :) I just hope LR's come out soon.

I prefer the auto batts for a couple reasons: First, I don't have to line up the cart to the stupid button. Second, I don't have to USE the stupid button. LOL I still hold my PVs much like I would hold an analog - rested lightly in between my index and middle fingers. I like that I can just take a drag and not have to think about where the damn button is. In testing out the manual, I found myself trying to drag often without pushing the button... then remembering there IS a button... then repositioning the PV to press the button....

Too much to think about. I'm Blonde... ;)

Dr.Zeus: I agree with Dopeh, best to start on pre-mixed. Check out FreedomSmokeUSA.com, they have a tonn of selection, and prices are good with the exchange as is. I've order twice from them, and got my shipment within 7 busines days, so quite quick. They have 125 different flavor samplers, so you'll have tonns of fun checking them out.
I'm all about supporting Canadian vendors, but price points just make it hard to compete, and having to mix stuff, although I love it, is not for everyone.

If you did order some flavored juice, no nic, no worries, when you do get a juice order, pick up some flavorless nic juice (best to get PG). I'm vaping some DomorEH at the moment, and tried the ExportEh from Happy Vapor, both are good. Keep in mind you will not get an exact taste to a cigarette... you don't have all the crap in Cigs! :)

Exactly my point. The Ts work OUT OF THE BOX. No more dripping, boiling, filling, stuffing, fiddling. I'm sure you'll like them.

Also, like I said, I found them to be comparable - if not better - to the 510 LR carto. (Haven't tried the 306 LR.)

And btw, the "LR" T atty is in the works!

I ordered most of my stuff from evapers and happy vaper. those 2 have been awesome to deal with, answering my questions and even listened to me rant about this god awful tastes I was experiencing without calling me a flake ;)

HV has 3ml glass bottles I have been mixing with. They have screw on plain caps and also caps with droppers. those glass droppers fit inside the tank hole just fine. I even have to mix the pre mixed stuff I bought as I can't stand it. so I made 3ml bottles of that mix and it makes it easy to fill. that said, I can't believe how long a tank lasts anyway. I think I'd be dizzy and high if I could finish 2 tanks in a day, or drinking beer I guess.

Just started vaping two weeks ago. And I am on my second ecig talk about first order mistakes. Did not like the first that much. This second one the Ego I love and even more now that I got the Tanks and attys for it.
I also just placed an order for this kit The DIY Flavor Artisan's Master Kit from One Stop DIY Shop Store. Seems to have every thing you need to get started and is a fairly good price at $44.40+$6.00 shipping. Not sure if they will ship to Canada but may be you can find some thing similar at a store in your area.

They do not ship to Canada. Happy vaper is the closest we have.
