So, I just got home from work and had the ProVari and Aspire Nautilus waiting for me. I charged both batteries until the charger turned green and put it all together. I filled the Aspire Nautilus with 2.5ML of the Peach Nectar that came from ProVape with the ProVari. I set it to 3.8V per the chart on taste your juice dot com using the 1.7Ohm coil that comes in the nautilus. I let it sit for about 10 minutes and took my first hit ever vaping....I almost died. I could taste the peach, but my throat was punched so ridiculously hard, I almost want to send it back. I've watched people hit these things for 5 seconds and there's just no way I could do that. My wife hit it for 3 seconds as well and inhaled and choked. We smoke Menthol's and THIS was an experience.

Something HAS to be wrong. We have 18mg NIC juice from ProVape and currently steeping 12MG NIC juice from rip tripper. It's not pleasant, and this is not a long hit. I've tried with the air hole on the smallest and second largest and it just hurts. Why is it so painful? I've followed everything..blegh!

For some people the strength of nic makes a difference with throat hit, but for me it makes almost none. I've vaped some pretty high strength nic, to high for me to admit to here and it did'nt make a difference. Could also be to high of a PG content for you, what's your pg/vg ratio? Then there is the possibility that you aren't getting enough liquid to the coil and you're getting partial dry hits, which would burn your throat.

First off, you have very top-notch equipment, so that isn't the problem, no worries there.

Secondly, smoking and vaping are different. I smoked ~45 years, but I could not inhale the vape at first, and my local store recommended dropping down to 6mg at first. Even at that, I still couldn't inhale without choking, took me about a week or 10 days, very little at a time. One of the ingredients in regular cigarettes is a substance that dilates your bronchial tubes (think asthma medication) so you can get the smoke down easier; e-liquid doesn't have that. Some people seem to be able to dive into vaping without any problems, but I wasn't one of them. Actually, the nicotine in e-liquid is absorbed through your mouth and nasal passages rather than your lungs, so there isn't really any reason to inhale. Never mind those loooooongggggg, huge, room-filling clouds people do; I still can't do that and don't work toward that goal at all. I've been off cigarettes 13 months, and that's all I care about. Just start with small hits, and if you can't inhale, that's okay. That will come in time IF it's important to you. If not, you'll still get the nicotine in the meantime.

You will probably get a sore throat for a week or so anyway, no matter what. It will go away on its own, unless you're allergic to PG or VG. I'm thinking more people are sensitive to PG than VG. I vape 50/50. Some like to go for 100% VG or as near as possible.

Keep coming back here. Don't give up--best of luck to you and your wife!

Congratulations on wanting to stop smoking, and congrats on your great equipment!

I can't imagine vaping by charts. I start out low and work up. With ProVape 24 mg. e-liquid in a ProVari with a low resistance atty, I would probably be at 3.3-3.4 v. and get a smooth, cool draw.

We are all different. I smoked ~2 PAD for over 45 years, and I still can't imagine vaping 24mg, even after vaping for 13 months now. I started with 6mg at first, because I couldn't inhale the vapor at first, almost choked to death with the testers in the store at 12mg. I bumped up a little after a while, but I still vape about 10mg. Some people can handle more, some handle less. I'm the *less* type. No matter, at least I'm not smoking! :vapor:

The key is to start at a low power setting, not rely on a chart. On a ProVari, which delivers accurate power, low resistance attys probably aren't a good idea for a beginner, like the OP.

I got a couple tester bottles with my starter kit, so I ordered it 24mg, thinking if it was too strong or harsh i could water it down to 18mg or lower if I had to. Got apple, Cherry, and ry4.

Sweet mother of hell the RY4 is so disgusting. Tried cutting it down to 18mg, tried to overpower it with Lorann grape concentrate, and it's so unbelievably gross that it has become the "use only if we're out of everything else bottle". It was a little better, but at 24mg it hurt my throat, made my stomach feel ill, tasted horrible....

I've since mixed up some 18mg and went 30PG/70VG and it's much better. Still a little harsh from a first fill before the juice thickens up a bit, but pretty decent. The next batch I do will be 12mg at 25/75 and I'm thinking that will be just right.

I'd try some lower nic, lower pg juice and see how that goes.
