Yes i agree that we might possibly shift the meaning to what we envision it to mean. But im not sure about the whole bible as literal. Jesus used alot of metaphor to get his point across to the people. as far as e cigs being a sin? id tell the holy er than thou sister that there is no escape from sin and Jesus didnt come here trying to save the perfect people, just us sinners.

This sounds like fun

*Disclaimer: I'm not saying what religion I am, it doesn't really matter.*

I still don't understand this whole mentality. So, Jesus came and essentially said we don't need the old way of punishment, we have forgiveness now right? Ever since then there has been a group of "Christians" that just can't handle that much responsibility so they push for laws to bring back punishment for all forms of "sin" (less severe in most cases but punishment all the same). I guess Jesus didn't get things right so they're fixing it for him?

*Disclaimer2: Notice I said a group of "Christians" not Christians or all Christians*

In the words of George Carlin, "That's my motto: Live and let live. Anyone who can't go along with that, take 'em outside and shoot the..." I'll just leave it at that point.

Oh, I can just see that conversation:

Jesus: ...and so I say, peace and forgiveness for all mankind.
them: yes, Jesus, peace and forgiveness for the righteous.
Jesus: yes, for the righteous and the sinners alike.
Them: yes, we follow you now, more peace for the righteous and maybe some peace for the sinners as long as it's less peace than the righteous get. Yes, we do your bidding!
Jesus: *facepalm*

My sister is 100% against these and has partitioned the NC state to pose a ban on esmokes. She is a pastors wife of some legal southern baptist denomination.
How in the world is this sin? She drink coffee which has caffeine and nicotine is a stimulant? The rest is just taste? crazy!!
Next time I visit their church "last time was 8 years ago" I plan to smoke while I sit in the pews my 510 yeti. I plan to make a special brew called the Charles Spurgion 'a 1800s Baptist minister who smoked 20 cigars a day" and smoke it in church!

Logic and religion don't go well together. It's sad to hear that she wants to actively ban something that has been a life saver for so many people. They are always pro-life, It makes no sense!????
It would be logically consistent to tell her that her actions will contribute to the deaths of many people.

Your sister needs to loosen her chinstrap and enjoy life a bit more

What the heck, I'll jump in - first off what everyone who believes the bible is the final word, it was created by a group of old men in back rooms. - very few of the writings at the time were decided to be included into the writings, rest were described as too radical for the general population. And who knows how many changes the monks made in copying the text-(jee, if I wanted to get this point across, this is what I would say). Even now there is a new modern version being created so that the general population can understand what was really meant(or so they say). Play the game of "pass this secret", then compare the starting secret with what the last person hears as the secret.
Even the 10 commandments which everyone believes in use to be over 100 but the old men decide to drop all the extras.
I believe the book should be read and used in trying to make one's life better, but not to control everyone else - that's what the old men want-a bunch of sheep for them to command.

I just love this. Some people ran away from England to escape religious persecution (probably because they ranted on about the evils of smoking, people got fed up with them and told them to bugger off to America) then spend their lives persecuting people who don't agree with them "because God is on our side".

Just a reminder. The German SS used to carry daggers with the words "Gott mit Uns" (God is with us) inscribed on the blade.

Perhaps your sister should try petitiioning to ban firearms, particularly handguns, that have no other purpose than to kill other people. See how far she gets with that in Carolina.

Sorry but this is a flawed view, no offence to your sister but the bible does not mention smoking in the slightest and the only sections you could 'adapt' to include smoking fit within the same bracket as caffeine or any other stimulant:

The bible commands us not to allow our bodies to become "mastered" by anything.
The bible teaches us that the body is gods temple.

So if your sister or any other wishes to attribute these statements to nicotine, they better be sure they are not driving a car, drinking caffeine, watching a television, eating any plant (eggplant or aubergine etc) that contains nicotine, mint, nutmeg (yes nutmeg!) etc etc ETC!......

I have no religeous background, I can't even spell it, so please do not attack me with biblical references anyone :) The only reason I'm replying is because the more people petition against these for whatever erroneous ridicadoodalous reason the more the public will view these as 'wrong'.

    Happy vaping!

someone needs to remind 'uber-christians' that until fifteen years ago, especially in the southern states, most pastors still smoked as did 99% of their congregations. If it was not a sin then it shouldn't be a sin now. Hypocrisy is rampant in legalistic congregations, who don't follow the rote of the bible as much as the rote of the word of their current pastors.
