Hi everyone. This is my first post. Just to introduce myself, I'm a 48 year old male who deals craps in a Tunica casino and live not too far away.

I'm one of the few people who was an ex-smoker already when I came into vaping. My successful quit attempt was accomplished using lozenges. I started out with the Nicorette mini-lozenges (2 mg), worked into the normal Nicorette lozenges, and finally the somewhat cheaper and much better tasting Equate lozenges. I started on Halloween 2010. What I would do is go as long as I could on the lozenges, buy a pack, and smoke it in a day, and then back to the lozenges, and so on. Over 6 months, I'd average about 2 weeks between packs. The last few packs of cigarettes got to tasting really nasty. I actually had to fight down my last pack. I literally did NOT enjoy my last cigarette, but I knew for a fact it was my last!

The problem was that I was now addicted to lozenges instead of cigarettes. I could not get off of them and was popping them faster than I should have. One of the reasons I quit was to save money, however I was spending almost as much on lozenges as I would have on cigarettes. On top of that, the lozenges were giving me health problems. I had developed an extremely bad cough, which would bring up an extremely large amount of mucus each time that I had to spit out. Co-workers were really starting to get worried about me.

Luckily I had a co-worker who was a vaper that got me started into vaping. Through vaping I've been able to slow down on the lozenges, and the cough is now gone. I'm still not completely off, but I'm getting there, and starting to see a reduction in my nicotene replacement cost as well. Anyway, I'm probably the only person in the world using vaping to quit lozenges. I feel like I'm trying to quit smoking all over again.

Well, that's all for now. Thank God you guys are here!

That does seem a bit unusual, StevenD ! I've kind of wondered if there'd be a problem getting off a nicotine replacement program once one got hooked on it. At one time I considered the lozenge...but blew it off as a probably-not-so-good idea as I realized it would not address my hand to mouth habit (deeply ingrained) that I had with smoking.

Vaping took care of all fronts for me...the nicotine habit as well as the ritual and hand to mouth habit. Although I still have the latter two! lol!

Nice to meet you, and welcome to ECF!

Congrats on giving up smoking, however you did it! At least you realized that in the end, we are nicotine addicts. Vaping is at least enjoyable in that you have so many wonderful flavors to choose from, and it can be less expensive IF you stay away from the threads that show all the wonderful stuff out there

WELCOME to ECF!

Wow, I never would have thought someone would enjoy the lozenges. I thought they were like a torture treatment along with the patches. I'm 49 and smoked for 30 years. Been vaping for 15 months and loving it. I feel so much better! I used to have a horrible post nasal drip that finally disappeared after about a month of not smoking. A good thing about vaping is you can slowly decrease the nicotine alot easier than any other method and you won't even notice it as you do it gradually. I'm working on getting real low on the nic due to blood pressure/heart issues. It's great to see you in the forum and best of luck to you, Steven.

Well, I've been in it long enough that I'm actually on my 2nd setup. I started with a Smoktech Ego 510, and now run a Lavatube with a Smoktech DCT tank. I'm upgrading slow enough that I'm still saving money over lozenges. Right now, I'm not really satisfied with the tank. I'm considering getting a Phiniac and using standard Boge 510's with it. I'll also get the refiller and carto punch from Phiniac. The only thing I'm waffling on is if I want the steel end caps or not.

SteveD,
I had considered the lozenge route before and used them when traveling. I had figured I'd have similar problems as you described though. When I used them I would get bad heartburn and an upset stomach. They seemed to work fine for nicotine replacement but I'm very happy I found vaping for sure. I started on the E and haven't picked up another analog since. That's not a big deal yet since it was only 3:30pm last Saturday but I'm celebrating every day at the moment. :)

As far as the taste of the Nicorette lozenges, I completely agree with you. As I noted, the Equate brand(Walmart) does taste better.

hey steve, i started with carto tanks, I have a j tank & jonboy sitting around somewhere, but my gf doesnt like them (says she can taste the filler burning inside) and my last few batches of boges have been all funky. Give vivi novas a try, theyre extremely cheap for their quality of vape IMO, and all my gf will vape besides dripping. Currently im waiting on some ZAP's to be ready, and hoping maybe zen will bring a few to vapercon :D
