Hello everyone.
I've been a pack-a-day smoker for roughly 15 years now. I started vaping about 9-months-ish ago on the Evod, then upgraded to the Protank 3 with the Evod battery. I made it three weeks without a cigarette before I couldn't take it anymore and gave in after a coworker offered a cigarette at work and I about melted. I bought a pack of smokes on the way home from work. After that, I stopped vaping for about a month and went back to my 1ppd Marlboro Red habits, until I bought the iTaste MVP2, and that got me back to vaping again, but I still smoke 3-8 cigs a day depending on if I'm working or not. For fear that I'll crave a cigarette so bad that I "fall off the wagon" entirely again, I usually smoke a few cigarettes after work in the evening to reward myself for not smoking (by smoking, the obvious intelligent choice) and it keeps the cravings at bay.
I was using an airflow valve (one with 5 holes) with my Protank 3 to get more vapor. I accidentally broke it while trying to unscrew it from the tank (it got stuck and I went to extremes to try to get it unstuck and broke it). I would have to buy another airflow valve online since all local shops are sold out of it, so I decided to just upgrade to the Aspire Nautilus yesterday based on reviews and the fact that it gets better airflow with the stock hardware anyway.
It's important to me to get a lot of vapor. I need to feel like I'm smoking, and I need a strong lung hit. From what I understand, dripping is the way to go for that, but I like being able to fill a tank and be good for the day without having to carry liquid around and dripping whenever I feel like vaping. Plus I vape when I drive, so I'm always looking for the best vaping experience that I can get with tank-based vaping. "Cloud" vaping like what I see on Youtube is overkill. Plus my peers give me enough crap for vaping instead of quitting smoking cold turkey, so filling a room with vapor doesn't help and I don't want to be secluded outside like a leper like I'm still smoking cigarettes.
I'm confused by what voltage/watts I should be vaping at with my MVP2 and Nautilus (with a 1.8ohm coil). I just got the Nautilus yesterday and started vaping Tiger's Blood (kind of a fruity mixture). It tasted great at first, with a lingering aftertaste that lasts for a few minutes (like a cigarette! yes!) but the taste is already falling off. I can taste it a little bit while exhaling, but that's it. It doesn't taste burnt, it's just tasteless. I've been vaping at 11 watts, since I prefer hotter and thicker vapor, which some people say not to do because of it tasting burnt, but it doesn't. If I set it down to 8 watts, I don't get enough of a hit, and I can barely hear the "bubbling" sound that comes with vaping. I'm wondering if I damaged the stock coil by vaping at 11 watts for a day, killing the flavor, and maybe I could get a decent hit and vapor had I been vaping at 7-8 watts to begin with instead of jumping up to 11.
Also, on the subject of volts/watts, I see some threads here talking about how I should view a chart and adjust my volts/watts according to my coil ohms. The MVP2 is variable, so I can just pick either watts/volts to adjust to manually and it adjusts the other accordingly, correct? Does it matter which one I adjust? But still, setting my MVP2 to 3.7v/7.5w does nothing for me. I feel nothing on the inhale and the vapor production is about the same as a Blu e-cig.
I cleaned out the glass tank and the mouthpeice with hot water today (didn't rinse the coil since the instructions said not to) and I'm vaping extreme ice now, one of my favorites with my Protank. I'm vaping at 8, and since it's a strong menthol liquid I can kind of get a decent hit at 8, or at least the strong cooling menthol effect gives me the impression that I am, but I have a hint of a plasticy/rubbery taste on the tail-end that's hard to explain (still not a burnt taste though). It has a bit more flavor than my Tiger Blood had though, so maybe my taste buds were just tired of Tiger Blood and were muting the taste?
It seems like every tank/battery combo I end up with, something ends up going wrong. No wonder I go back to my cigs so often. Sorry for the million questions, I've had this coming for awhile. I've put a bit of money into vaping and I'm still not satisfied or sure what I want, it's just frustrating.
