My experience is with 32ga Kanthal I get more burnt tasting hits in my VVN.Went back to nichrome and do not have the problem. I use 2 pieces of 1.5mm silica wick and 32ga nichrome wire. I wrap 5 coils tightly (but not super tight) around the wick and a pin or paper clip. I consistently get a reading of 1.9-2.0 ohms. Remember if you have a multi meter you need to touch the test leads together to get a ohm reading and subtract that from the reading you get when you check your coil. After wrapping my coil I put it in the post and screw it on to the battery with out the tank around it,( just the base). I run water on the wick holding it downward as not get it all over my battery, then fire it a couple of times, rinse it and repeat a couple of times.Dry the wick with a paper towel to soak up the excess water. This seems to get any of that metal taste you might get with a new coil. Fill with juice and ready to go. I have had good luck with this process, I have been doing this for about 5 months now.I am using a mechanical mod with a 18650 battery 3.7 volts. It might work for you or it might not just giving you my process for my rebuilding technique. Good Luck.
