Why would a nonsmoker want to use eliquid? I'm not looking for answers that a nonsmoker shouldn't start, but why would one want to?

Hi dawn and welcome to ECF. First off, I assume when you say 'use eliquid' you mean to vape it.

If it has nicotine in it, bacc.vap gave some great reasons. Nicotine also helps with a couple of bowel conditions. Basically, anytime someone wants to use nicotine in a reasonably safe way, without smoking, vaping is a possible option.

If no nicotine is involved, people vape instead of eating sweets for weight control sometimes and also for the fun of vaping. I always tell people who don't smoke that there are unknowns to vaping safety so if they are not going to get something meaningfully positive from vaping it might be better that they abstain :)

Hi Dawn,

Let me refer you to this thread http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/633573-vaping-nicotine-advantages.html

I started it in Dec after I started vaping and being abstinent from smoking for over 40 years. From my review of the scientific literature, I couldn't see any reason not to vape nicotine laced juice. In fact, my overall conclusion was that, not only isn't there a GOOD reason for a would be ex-smoker not to vape nicotine, there doesn't appear to be any GOOD reason why someone who hasn't smoked not to. Nobody has pointed to the 'down side' of vaping nicotine, and even if only a small fraction of the reports of the advantages gained doing so are valid, people, in general, should probably vape. People take nutritional supplements for varying reasons, and vaping nicotine really isn't any different. There is, for example, a lot more reason to vape nicotine based on what we know now then there probably will ever be for, say, taking a daily multivitiman tablet.

Vaping nicotine IS probably better for you than avoiding it is. It really does appear to be that simple of a choice.

Hi dawn and welcome to ECF!

Could be the same reason I started smoking many years ago. All my friends were doing it, and there was peer pressure. Not saying that they should, but I think I'd rather have my children try vaping than try cigarettes if they are going to "join the crowd".

Hope it helps and Happy Vaping!

How old is your daughter? Just like traditional tobacco products, vaping products are only available to those over 18. So hopefully that's not an issue.
Some folks here (see above) will say that vaping is a good and healthy thing. Make your own informed decision, the jury is still out on health concerns; regardless of what some of the members say, there has just not been enough time based studies to prove either way.
As far as nicotine goes, believe what and who ever you want. Again, some say not addictive, other say it is; long winded discussions have ensured with no real clear outcome. 'I say its addictive', 'no, this study says it not'; 'this study says it is', 'well that study is flawed' blah blah blah. You get the picture.
One final thought; if your daughter does become a full on vapor user, it s gonna cost her money. And not the pack-a-day gum kind of money! Many ex smoker's here can attest to this; we went from $5-15 a day on cigarettes, to $5+ a day on vaping products. Or more depending on her degree of involvement, ie. if she takes it up as a 'hobby', or just vapes when she's out with friends, etc.
Just some thoughts from an almost ex smoker who likes vaping and has had an unnatural amount of nicotine in his system for over 20 years.

Nobody stated that it is a good and healthy thing. It is Healthier than smoking, we know that. Years of research HAVE been done on Nicotine, and it has been proven to be about as addictive as coffee, some people are more susceptible to falling into an everyday coffee habit.

The addiction from cigarettes is more from the chemical cocktail that we burned and inhaled, along the habit formed from smoking everyday. Everybody is different in how their body works so it will never be the same from one person to another.

OP I am sorry I don't have any of my usual links to post up for you to read up on due to a different hard drive in my PC atm..
The Great Nicotine Myth

Here is one I could remember. If your daughter is of age than there is not much to it but education, although if she is under 18 you will find that almost everyone here would recommend that she put it down.

The majority of users here quit traditional smokes with vaping, that is why we vape, some it has turned into a hobby and a lifesaver.

Thank you! I appreciate all the comments to help me understand. She is of age, I just don't understand why she wants to start.

I understand the confusion OP I have two younger brothers, both 18.. They both started vaping with friends, 0mg nic but I told them both I don't really approve but they are adults now and I am not willing to dictate over them.

Would you please stop your anecdotal pro-nicotine propaganda for non-smokers?

If you're a non-smoker and still insist on trying vaping I'd try some nicotine free juice and give it a try.
Last thing I'd want is for a new member to come into this community smoke free and leave with a nicotine addiction.

That said if you just want to try it there are nicotine free juices just about everywhere you go and they are just as good without nicotine as they are with, better in fact since the nicotine doesn't mess with the flavor.

My wife has never smoked a day in her life, and just recently she wanted to try vaping. We went and she tested a bunch of flavors and picked a couple she really liked, 0 nic of course but, she could just take a cpl small hits and she will be perfectly fine for hours, if not the entire day. Its not like she's constantly vaping away. She just likes the flavors. A 10 ml bottle will last her forever.

If at a point she didn't want to do it anymore it wouldn't be nothing for her to just quit. There's probably numerous reasons someone would want to try.
People eat candy BC it taste good. Oh you mean I can vape something that can taste like candy but I don't have to worry about all the side effects from eating a bunch of candy.
