Yes, a passthrough is an e-cig with a (usb) plug in cord on it. You'll need something to plug it into, either a wall adapter, car adapter, or a computer. Plus you'll need cartomizers.

There's also an eGo passthrough if you like that model better, and those ones you can unplug the cord from the unit and use it as a "wireless" e-cig like normal if you like. But you'll still need something to plug the other end into; a car adapter, a/c (wall) adapter, or a computer. And, of course, some cartomizers or something to use on it.

It's pretty tuff to recommend something for temporary use. Chances are, you're going to like it so much you'll want to continue to use it after the trip, or out of the car in the hotel room, or on the beach, or where ever. For that reason, I would suggest a full kit. One with 2 batteries, a charger that has both wall and car adapters, and some cartomizers. Cartomizers are easiest to start with, just screw em on and go.
You can graduate to refilling and all the other things later if you want (save the empty cartos).
A 510 version like joye, or an 808 version from v4l...either would be great to start with. (there are other brands for sure, just mentioning a couple that seem very popular).
But I'm betting once you try these, you'll be hooked.
