Narrow bore? Please help!

Hello! I'm brand new to the vaping world and after tons of reading and researching, I finally went to my local vape shop and purchased my first e-cig (or is it mod??). I REALLY want to quit smoking. Before I go any further, please forgive me for my lack of knowledge and terminology...this is all so new to me!

I'm actually pretty shocked at how much I spent, but was reassured I'd save $$ in the long run by saving on analogs. I ended up getting a Provari Mini with a Kanger tank, 1.2 ohm with a couple 50/50 blend juices at 12mg. I am currently a 3/4 - 1 PAD smoker. At the shop, I really enjoyed the sample vapes and didn't have any issues with coughing or harshness, but with my own personal device I can barely tolerate it. I'm thinking it's because the drip tip bore is too wide which is causing me to direct lung hit (no matter what I set the air control valve at) and I really would rather mouth hit. I did purchase two additional drip tips that are slightly narrower than the stock Kanger tip, but there's little difference. Also, the silicone covers at the shop had a small hole and I think that made a huge difference...I actually prefer that type of draw. BTW the voltage is set at 3.0. I tried higher but was getting juice splatter in my mouth.

Are there any mouthpieces/drip tips that have super narrow bores that would work with my setup? I'm feeling really discouraged and have barely begun! I'd appreciate any help. :)

If its only @ 3.0V you probably dont need to turn the wattage down. In all honesty this is a common issue I face with trying juice samples at a b & m, and the most common solution Ive found is letting your juices steep. I always take my dripper to.the vpe shop and sample all.the juices, but when i buy the exact same juice and try it its nothing like what i tasted. Usually juices in a shop have had the chance to sit there and steep and get better than what a fresh bottle tastes like. Heckuva starter mod with a.provari mod though. By all means welcome to ECF, hope your juice tastes better soon, and enjoy vaping! Ask away if u got any q's u need answered.

Edit: theres tons of vape websites that sell hundreds of different size drip tips. If u can deal with an incredibly long wait for shipping fasttech has alotta good, cheap drip tips

You're only vaping at 7.5 watts with a 12mg/ml 50/50 eliquid, that shouldn't be harsh at all. Are you sure you haven't flooded the atomizer? A flooded atomizer can spit juice out the tip when firing. Is it making good vapor, or just a little bit? Does it gurgle when you draw on it?

You could also be getting a dry hit if it's harsh, hard to say.

I don't think I've flooded the atomizer? No gurgling sounds, just some slight popping here and there. The guy at the shop set it up for me and showed me how to properly prime the atty plus extra beginner tips. I am getting decent vapor...I'm sure I could get more if I didn't feel like I was choking or if the TH wasn't so harsh. I was never a direct lung inhaler as a smoker so that's why I feel the drip tip is the problem. I feel like I need something less open so that I can pull into my mouth first, if that makes sense. I'm thinking that would make a huge difference in the harshness I'm experiencing.

I'm checking out fasttech now...any recommendations for what I'm describing? I don't see "narrow" in any of the descriptions, so it's hard to tell how wide they actually are. Thanks again!

Not much room to go lower at 1.2Ω and 3 volts , as stated thats just 7.5 watts.
Does your tank have any air flow that you can tighten ?

ETA - nic could be too high for you.

I was thinking that too (nic too high), but the shop owner insisted I don't go below 12mg in the beginning due to my current level of smoking. Plus all the juices I sampled were 12s, and I had no problem with those with the smaller tip. If a narrower drip tip doesn't do the trick I may go down to 6mg and see how that goes.

Oh, and the airflow is adjustable...same issue no matter what setting. Goes straight to my lungs and it's just too overwhelming for me.

A lot of the vape shops in my area are mostly selling only wide bore tips. You are not alone as I can't stand them!

FT does have a huge selection of tips -- but to get something faster you could try many US on line vendors. In addition to older style, non large bore, you could also get a longer/taller tip. Good quality and more $$, CherryVapes makes excellent tips. Pinnacle (at Discount Vapers) are custom made tips with small bores (1/8"+) and they also have other cheaper "regular" styles. Even Ebay has some FT type offerings. Other vendors -- oh my --- GotVapes, MadVapes, Good Profits....are just a few.

BTW -- what "topper" did you get? Do you know the name? If it's a subtank---buy something else. It is made to be lung hit only.

Uh -- I don't think that one you picked at FT is actually small bore, despite the comments.

I appreciate all the suggestions! After work I'll sit down and do my research.

Uh oh...looks like I have a Kangertech subtank mini. So that's the likely culprit to these harsh lung hits? Would you kindly please recommend a different topper that may suit my needs better? Thanks again!

You might look into an Aspire Nautilus / Nautilus Mini.

I really think it is -- that and .5 ohm coils. (I think it comes with one .5 and one 1.2 ohm coil)

I quite like my Nautilus with BVC Coils and often use the full sized (5mil) as well as the mini. Recently there has been a following for the GS Air Tank -- it's just an itty bitty thing (2+ mil) but a nice and quite inexpensive little tank. These are both good tanks for beginners and veterans alike. :) (I also prefer higher ohms than 1.2....with 1.5 being the lowest I'll go.)

The GS Air fans are hoping for a larger capacity model ....soon!

I also agree --- very good choice with the ProVari.

Basically, you have a tank system made for lung hitting a large amount of vapor. You may learn to like it in the future but right now it seems you would prefer something more restrictive.

A smaller drip tip can help with restricting air flow. Have you thought about possibly getting another tank? I know you just dropped some serious cash for some top of the line gear, and I don't want you to spend more than you need to, but there are alternatives.
