I have tried Nasal snuff, but the brand I purchased was heavily mentholated (or minty), and that's not my bag. Are there any snuffers out there with some good recommendations?

I am a quitting Lucky Strike SMOKER, and have had great success with my PV and Lucky Strike SNUS. I have always enjoyed Insufflation, and think that Nasal SNUFF may be right up my alley. I just need to find a good brand/supplier...

Thanks!

Hey salt!

If that PDX stands for Portland (I'm assuming) them one of the best places to by Nasal snuff online would be Nicotine Rush:
Nasal Dry Snuff, Accessories : Nicotine Rush

They have a wide variety of brands and flavors, excellent shipping, and they have a sister site for consumer reviews:
SnuffReviews.com [BETA]

I won't get in depth, but if you're looking for non mentholated snuffs, you might look into Toque snuff. Their Toque original is a favorite of mine. A plain tobacco flavor - very nice. They have many flavors (30+ and counting, I believe), some that are mentholated - some just straight flavored. I've purchased many of their 1 gram "mini-bullets" just so I could try out their extensive selection without a big financial investment. Well, that, and then I have those refillable bullets to carry some snuff for on the go.

If you're feeling adventurious, you might want to try an "American" dry Scotch snuff. But I warn you, they can be VERY potent - high in nicotine. Most of the plain types have a bar-b-que flavor to them. Rooster is considered the very strongest. I believe one reviewer stated that he felt as though someone smacked him in the nose with a BBQed rib...
8-o

Anyway, some of my favorites are:

W.E. Garretts Scotch snuff (Pretty stout stuff!)
Toques Original
McCrystals Genuine and Original (the best menthol, IMO)
Ozona Raspberry

If I were you, I would stick to trying some of the Toque flavors until you get a feel for snuffing. You can always branch out later.
With flavors like Coke, Champagne, Bourbon, Blueberry, etc. - That ought to keep you busy taste testing for a while...

:D

I still haven't tried this stuff so I'm totally in the dark about it...don't laugh at my questions ;-)

Does any of it stick around in your nose when you snuff? Wouldn't want to look like something was hanging in there if you know what I mean *shudder* :) Is it an immediate nicotine hit or does it work more like snus does? (as in slow and steady once you snuff it). Does it have different levels of nicotine like the juice for the ecigs and snus does?

I'm checking out nicotinerush and they do have some pretty low priced samplers that sound kinda interesting...and that article that TB put up does say a tin of snuff can last a very long time, hmmmm....

Edit addition: How much does one "normally" snuff at a time? As in how many sniffs would be in a gram or something?

I'm still trying to like nasal snuffing, Sheilalynn. It's not as easy as snusing. First off, I tried the off-the-back-of-the-hand and between-the-fingers methods and they made me feel ridiculous. A straw would be worse! I settled on a tiny spoon that is actually a pipe scraper. But there's the problem of "how much?"

Then I moved on to snuff bullets. From Toque. From Zuka. I like both, but Zuka if far milder and I actually like it better. Northerner sells both brands.

A bullet is used like an old Vicks nasal inhaler. Just twist a knob that empties a measured amount into the chamber, put the bullet to a nostril and sniff. No mess. The back of the hand, fingers, etc. left brown powder on the underside of the nose. I just couldn't get used to anything this messy.

Some report a nicotine rush very rapidly, much faster than snus or e-smoking. I don't get one, sadly. And I've tried all the "high" nicotine snuff. That high nic will burn your nose so bad your eyes will water -- and still no nic hit for me.

With your next Northerner order, try a bullet of Zuka Zee. Mild. Menthol that will unstuff a nose. See if you like it. A bullet lasts me about three days.

A tin lasts ... forever .. and you can refill the Toque bullets.

I'm going to be a dissenter on Toque snuff. I've now tried perhaps 10 of their tins and bullets -- and not really liked any. I don't like Whiskey and Honey. Don't like Toast and Marmalade. Gave away about 7 full tins, including Quit (really powerful irritant without taste).

But Sheilalynn, I'm zeroing in on stuff you might like. I ordered yesterday from NicotineRush and got my snuff in the mail today! They are in Florida, so it was easy to send to my address. And I've found some new stuff I really, really like.

1. Dholakia Swiss Chocolate. Oh my, I've tried other brands of chocolate snuff and they sucked. This is delicious. And not so strong that it ignites your nose and sets off the sneezes. This will be a daily snuff from the reusable bullets it comes in.

2. Dholakia Coffee Bites. Next to tobacco, I love coffee. Most coffee flavors, whether e-liquid or snuff, don't come close to the taste/smell of fresh-brewed coffee. This one does. It's like sticking your nose in the grounds!

3. She Cherry Menthol. I bought this expressly so I could advise you on it. It's marketed for women, in a reusable snuff bullet, and says so on the label. It's a sinus-clearer, but very mild, as it should be for women. Excellent bullet, by the way. It's worth the price of a full one just to keep the bullet and reuse it. I found this snuff most pleasant. No burn.

4. Dean Swift Inchkenneth. I don't care what any snuff user with hair on his shoulders might say, I like this. It's sandalwood and musk, and reminds me of an old cologne line I used to use. Great lingering smell. Seems to last all day. The world stinks? Sniff this.

5. Pompadour. Only the second snuff that I enjoyed enough to use the entire container and order yet another. This is CLOVE flavored, in all caps! I happen to like clove a lot, so this will also be a daily snuff.

All are available from NicotineRush.

Side topic: I'm creating "comparable taste" alternatives I can use. Coffee Bites snuff with Stonewall Java dissolvables, for instance. Dholakia Swiss Chocolate snuff with Janty Chocolate E-Liquid. Pompadour while chewing Clove gum or eating Red Hots. You get the idea. Since I'm often using more than one thing, I'll pair them up for compatibility! Taste, smell and addiction conquered.

Ever use Lavoris mouthwash and then smoke a cigarette? Wow! Yowsir!

Just awhile ago I saw a list of "easy on the nose" snuffs for beginners (after months, I'm still a beginner!). The Swiss Chocolate was atop the list, which included the new Mango Cream (right up my tropical alley). I've been using my new stuff all afternoon, and my fondness for this practice is growing.

I agree on the Espresso flavor, SmokingClam. Just didn't say "coffee product" to me. The only Toque I remotely like is Blueberry Menthol.

I've been hitting the Swiss Chocolate so hard this afternoon that I've almost ignored my new Coffee Bites. Maybe for breakfast ...

Janty's Cappuccino e-liquid and Coffee Bites nasal snuff over a cup of Maxwell House. Hmmm, good.

I just jumped on the snuff bandwagon within the last 48 hours, and in typical junkie fashion, have been jumping in whole hog. Please note that all of my comments are from a snuff uber-noob, who is very much in the learning curve.

Snuffs that I have tried:

Dhokalia Swiss Chocolate: a nice, moist, dark brown powder with a fabulous rich, sweet chocolate flavor. Great for beginners. I could snuff this all day long.:thumb:

Swisher Honey Bee: I love it. It's sweet, it's honey, it's got that great American snuff nicotine kick. I had a honey bee buzz going my entire first snuff-day at work (switching up with the swiss chocolate).:thumb:

Toque Absinthe in a bullet: Stong and pungent. Painful on my first few tries; I'll have to check out that one more later. Beginners beware of trying new flavors from a bullet the first time. Without experience, it is difficult to judge how much you are getting and how strong the snuff will hit you.

Toque Honey Whiskey: I received a sample of this with my first nicotinerush order, and I really like it. It has a mesquite/barbecue kind of flavor, unusual at first snuff, but tasty.:thumb:

Dean Swift Inchkenneth: Thank you TropicBob for the recommendation! It's a perfumey snuff and luscious. If it came in a perfume oil form, I'd be wearing it. It's safely in my acrylic bullet now, and it's not injured me yet from the bullet.:thumb:

Dhokalia Sparrow Cool: Received this in a Dhokalia sampler pack. Again, learn from my experience here: beginners should test new snuffs with a pinch, not a bullet. I naively filled up an empty bullet with the sparrow cool, took a hearty snort, and very nearly blew my own head off! :-x Snorting, stomping, shaking head, tears running down...thank God I had the kitchen to myself. Sparrow cool is mentholated and a very dry, fine powder. Veterans (see snuffhouse.org forum) love the stuff, but in the hands of a beginner (in a bullet no less!) it can be a deadly weapon. I am setting that one aside for now.

My snuffing methods:

I am all over the map here, and I believe it'll take quite some time before I settle down. To complicate things further, I can bet that different snuffs will fare differently with different methods. Inchkenneth is doing well in the bullet, and I plan on keeping it there. I've done sweet snuffs (honey bee and swiss chocolate) with (1) straight pinches to the nostril, and (2) wrapping my index finger around the tip of my thumb and tapping powder onto the "snuffbox" formed at the tip of my thumbnail. I can appreciate the classic nature and simplicity of simply pinching. Bullets seem nice and convenient for out and about, and appearing as "medical devices".

Overall initial impressions:

I could get hooked on this stuff (whoops, too late!). With a good-sized pinch, a nicotine "rush" is possible, but not always predictable, especially if I've already been vaping. I think I'll be spending most of my time dabbling in the American sweet and scotch snuffs, and with some classic British snuffs like Wilson's of Sharrow and Fribourg & Treyer. Heavily mentholated snuffs don't seem to be my cup of tea at the moment.

The snuffhouse.org forum is quite large and valuable, although it's not as organized and easy-to-read as the vaping forum here on ECF.

I have ordered from nicotinerush.com and mrsnuff.com, whom both seem to be reputable and good quality online snuff merchants. Snuffing appears to be quite a bit cheaper and simpler than vaping, although the aesthetics of snuffling brown powder up one's nostrils can be potentially off-putting. My husband is a plain old cigarette and premium cigar smoker. I haven't inhaled burning tobacco into my lungs (Wahoo!) since I received my first PV. DH is a little intrigued by the vaping, but is unsure it could entirely replace smoking for him. He dips skoal in the house, and thinks it's cute that I've brought some snus home. YET, for some reason, I am hesitant to show him the snuff, for fear that he'll think I'm a complete and total nicotine nutball. Interesting...perhaps I should discuss this with my therapist...or perhaps not!

Count me in!

A couple more quickie review notes on some snuffs I have sampled.
I chose these to try solely on TropicBob's say-so (Huzzah, Bob!).

Zuka Black bullet:
A decent dark, dry mentholated type. I like it because it didn't nuke the interior of my little nube-head. The snuff works very well in its bullet, which is solid and very well made, although *not* refillable or reuseable. I've heard some say that it's pretty pricey for what you get.

She Cherry Menthol (made by Dholakia):
It is just what it sounds like, a mentholated cherry flavor in a bullet. Again, it is not a ballistic-grade menthol, and the hints of cherry are very nice. This is marketed to women and comes with a pink and white label, but thankfully no glitter or other bling. The bullet works well for me, is solid, and is refillable.

At this moment, I probably wouldn't buy either of these two again, but I will enjoy them while they last. There are so many snuffs out there that I want to try that I would have to be bonkers over something to purchase it more than once. Swisher Honey Bee and Dholakia Swiss Chocolate are the two that are currently on my will-repurchase-someday list.

Thanks Bob! I actually did recently get 4 tins from Toque but have only dared try it once so far :p. The one I tried was the Raspberry...very tiny amount on the back of my hand since I didn't know what to expect. Watched a couple of vids on youtube to make sure I did it right, and went very gently. Must've done it right because I didn't sneeze or anything, and didn't get a runny nose with it like everyone seems to tell you will happen. So it was a positive experience anyways! :)

The other flavors I got were espresso, vanilla, and chocolate, along with the raspberry. Came to a whopping $7.96 or something like that including shipping from England, so it was worth taking the risk. But I'll definitely be checking out nicotinerush's site and the ones you suggested. :)

I might have to revise my opinion on the She Cherry Menthol bullet. The bullet itself is good and seems to have good air flow from the venting hole, but the She CM is very difficult to snuff out of the bullet. I wonder perhaps if the snuff is too moist to snuff up well from the bullet; the dose just seems to stay in down in the well no matter how hard I try. No biggie though, I've just taken to "twirling" the bullet to get a dose, then tapping the snuff out onto my left hand (thumb-nail to be specific) and snuffing it up from there.

Wowie, that works well! I really do enjoy this flavor!

Sheila, just looking at the Toques you ordered, I would bet that you'd like Swisher Honey Bee (American). Nicotinerush carries it and the American snuffs end up being dirt cheap because the tins are so large.

Honey Bee and Dholakia's swiss chocolate are at the top of my list right now, not counting Zuka Black, She menthol cherry, and oh yeah Toque honey/whiskey, and the Inchkenneth...I guess I'm just easy...
