After buying two brand new RN4081 Atomizers and a USB Passthrough, I was stoked.
Cleaned it, primed it with 4 drops of fluid, filled a cartridge, and vaped. On the 6th puff, it started. The wick inside the atty was burning. I thought they were supposed to go a lot longer than that. It wasn't dry, quite the opposite, there was plenty of fluid inside, and even a little pooling in the "cup" under the element. But, the burnt taste just wouldn't leave after that.
I tried washing it with hot water, soaking it in alcohol, nothing seemed to get rid of this burnt taste. A brand new atty wasted. I was quite upset.
So, I figured I'd try mixing a little test batch of an extremely strong flavored vape to see if I could cover the taste completely.
I took a 10ml bottle of tobacco/menthol 100% VG 24mg fluid, and added SEVEN drops of pure Peppermint Essential Oil.
Shook it up, re-primed the atty, filled a cartridge, and took a puff.
Wow, it was strong... Like vaping a mouthful of Altoids.
Couldn't taste any burnt nastyness...
Well, this was only an hour ago, so I can't say whether or not the burnt taste will return if I go back to a regularly flavored cartridge, but even though it was amazingly strong, I actually quite liked it, so I think I'm going to vape through the rest of the 10ml before I try a different cart on it.
I'd like to hear your stories if you've done something similar, and what concentrations/flavors you've used to successfully cover up a burnt tasting atty.
