I'm just getting starting with DIY mixing, and it just struck me tonight - can you use the regular natural vanilla extract that you get at the store, or do you need to get one of the ones from a flavoring company?
I tried that when I first started and I had no idea what I was doin. I think those extracts are too weak in flavor to really come thru compared to some of these concentrated flavors.
Yes the extraction is done with with alcohol. It probably has about 40 to 50 percent alcohol along with some water, solids from the vanilla beans and usually a sweetener like corn syrup. Have you had good luck with it?
