So, while waiting very impatiently for my new Nemesis, M16, and 2c fuses to arrive, I decided to go get batteries from my local B&M store (waiting on an i4 charger too). Right now I use protected ultrafire 18650's for my svd and 134 (I know, I know, not the best, but it's what I already had). I want a GOOD battery for the mechs though. When I went in the owner told me they were out of eFest IMR's and he tried to talk me into a new brand of NCR battery. I know very little about them other than supposedly they can be run down to 2.5v and have an extra layer of "stuff" around the cathode to resist overheating even during a short (I think it's called HLR or something like that). That being said, I've never messed with "safe chemistry" batteries and can't seem to find any posts from people that use them in mechs here. So there its is... do you use them? Do you like them? Are they worth it?

NCR batteries are indeed "safe chemistry" batteries, and termed one of the new "hybrid" batteries made by Panasonic. They are also considered a "high drain" battery. The Panasonic/Orbtronic NCR18650PD 2900 mah are such a battery, and the even newer NCR18650PF will have minor improvements over that. This battery has a 10 amp continuous discharge rate, which is a spec you should know should you be thinking about doing sub ohm vaping in the future.

Current wisdom is IMR or hybrid batteries are preferred over protected ICR batteries for safety reasons. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/129569-rechargeable-batteries.html Although unprotected, their safer chemistry is considered to make them safer than protected batteries because if the protected circuit fails in the ICR batteries, their volatile (as in flamable) chemistry can cause flames or even an explosion inside of a mod.

I use only IMR batteries: AW and Panasonic hybrid. I had a protected ICR battery go into thermal runaway in a mechanical mod over a year ago and made the switch to use IMR batteries in both my mechanical and regulated mods at that time.
