After 35 years of smoking cigs - in 7 days I'll surpass my previous cig-free period of three months.

A few years back I quite smoking cold-turkey...for 3 full months. No patches, no cheating. It was the longest time I'd quit in 35 years. Nearly resulted in a divorce - my wife said I nearly went outta my mind for a while. She was even begging me to go back to smoking...it was that bad.

One more week and I'll surpass that milestone. Had my last cig the same day I started vaping. No relapses or cheats. I even tossed out my cigs (and lighter) that same day.

So far - no divorce, lol.

I think I'll celebrate the occasion by going out and treating myself to a nice new flavour.

In 36 years, I never made it anywhere close to 3 months, but once a few days in, my wife (who has never smoked) basically told me I'd better start smoking again if I wanted to stay married. :D

I had given up. I didn't think I'd ever quit. But then late last year, I read some articles in the media lamenting how the FDA wasn't doing their job because they hadn't regulated e-cigs yet, so I figured I should check it out before they ruined it. It took me less than a week of vaping to decide that I really didn't want traditional cigs anymore. I've still got 3-1/2 packs in the drawer right next to me. I'm not sure why I haven't thrown them out; I haven't smoked one in 62 days. That's about 10x longer than I ever made it before -- and it's been completely painless.

I decided to switch to vaping after my boss died of lung cancer last Sept. 20th. It was the final straw for me. He was a great boss, personal friend...and all-round great guy. If I manage to stay off the cigs for good - I owe the inspiration to him.

Greetings ex-shameful tobacco inhalers...

39 years for yours truly. In that entire time... I did not try to quit even ONCE! Probably because I knew I couldn't. Chicken. Coward. Didn't want to fail.

Cograts you brave souls that tried!

Edit: My "like" button disappeared for some of you guys. You must be deemed as unlikeable by a higher authority!

Edit Edit: Never mind. It's back. A free round of "likes" for all my ex-smelly brethren!

You have gone and hurt my feelings, Kodiak! For all those 40 years of smoking that I never, ever tried to quit even one time...I told myself it was because I was a perfectionist and didn't want to do it until I could do it right. Now you tell me folks like you and me are just chicken.:D

Congrats Brotha! Every little step is a big step when it comes to quitting the smokes! Sorry about your boss, that's not the motivation we like to hear about but you know he's proud of you! It sounds like you're out of the woods, so to speak. The first few weeks are the hardest... then it's smooth sailing from there!
I only tried to quit a few times. Made it 3 years the first try. 7 months the 2nd try. Only a few weeks the others... I quit trying to quit. I would say "My parents didn't raise no quitter" when someone would sarcastically ask when I would quit my "Nasty Habit".
And now... here we are!
Here's to your smoke-free life! :toast:
vape on my man... vape on.
