Im from California and I am 61. Been dipping since I was 13 which I have to thank my grandpa for getting me into it. I go through a 10 can roll of Redman Long cut straight in 2 weeks and now its time to quit. It's so bad that in the morning when I get up, i have to put a dip in just to get going for the day. An example of how bad it is is in 2007 I had a stroke and my daughters husband took me to the ER. The first thing I did in the car was put a dip in and when they got me to my room, I had my son bring my dip.
I am going to try vaping to see if it will help me quit. Talking to people that work in vape stores and now I am confused as to how much nic I should use, if throat hit is better than mouth hit and just starting out, what is the best vape, the pen or the box mod?
My kids and grand kids watch me chew and say I am so gross. I have spent over 650.00 in spit cups. Help me please

since you arent a smoker, vaping may be harsh for you... but there is an option.. instead of vaping ( its something I do when I cant vape) is "dripping". I place a small smear of juice on my finger and lick it. One has to be careful as to how much to lick since it would be too easy to get a nic overdose... and get that " I swallowed my dip feeling" :)
as far as the nic level, I use 36 mg/ml strength.

Well, since you never inhaled anything - high VG ( i.e. vegetable glycerine ) - liquids to keep lung irritation low.
Nic level depends on the type of setup you'll be using. The small pen-like vapes produce relatively little vapor, so you need to be on the high side for the nicotine. The big cloudmaking machines - 3 mg/ml nicotine should be enough.

Alternatively, google 'snus' :)

Welcome @snuffy1126

Not sure I can provide much, if any advice as I am not at all familiar with dipping. But did want to share my similar situation.

I made my trip to the emergency entrance in 1995 for a heart attack. One would think going through cardiac arrest would be the push to get one off the smokes. Unfortunately, vaping was not available then and after trying everything that was available and failing with all of them, I gave up as did my wife, family, doctors, and friends. Then about 3 years ago, my niece let me try her vape pen to try and the rest is history.....as well as the smokes. Even though our addictions are/were different, it can be done. So......

Since only you and your body can/will know how much nic is enough, it will take some trial and error on your part. And that may involve gear as well as juice and its nic content. For gear, I would suggest starting with an inexpensive start kit and focus on the juice first. Try to find a flavor (or 2) you like cause if it doesn't taste good to you, the rest won't matter. Then get the smallest bottles available in different nic strengths. Something like a bottle of juice A in the highest nic level, mid level, and low level. Try the mid level first and if that works, you are good to go (just mix the high and low together for more of the mid level). Too strong, go to the low level and adjust from there if needed. Same if it is too weak, but I would suggest mixing 50/50 with mid a high level before jumping clear up to the strongest. If you find that even the highest level nic juice is not doing the job, there are other options available that can be explored to rectify that.

And even though it might cost a bit more, I would suggest finding a good vape shop to get you started. Their advice, help, encouragement, and just having their ear could be priceless.

Good luck and keep us posted on your journey! :vapor:

Hi snuffy. Welcome to the ECF.

I helped someone who was a Non-Smoker get off Dipping. And what worked best for him was to use a Higher than normal Nicotine Level and then Vape it like you Smoke a Cigar. By just holding it in your Mouth and not Inhaling.

I would suggest staying away from Vape Pens. And would lean more towards something like an eLeaf iStick Pico Kit and a pair of LG HG2 3000mah 18650 Batteries.

iSmoka Eleaf iStick Pico 75W Melo 3 Mini Kit - Grey

Most smokers who are quitting with something like the Kit above would maybe start off with an e-Liquid around 3 ~ 12mg/ml . If you decide to go the Route of using it like a Cigar and Not inhaling, I would suggest an e-Liquid more in the 9 ~ 18mg/ml range.

Hey @snuffy1126 ! I'm really interested to hear how you get on. I have a general theory that vaping's more like dip/chew in that you sort of do it constantly throughout the day - you're grazing (dip/vape) rather than bingeing (cigarettes).

Good luck!

Welcome and glad you joined. Might want to pay particular attention to section 8, last paragraph. "The e-cigarette in cigar mode"
re: A list of symptoms when quitting tobacco and changing to an ecigarette
All the suggestions mentioned may deserve a try. As to which vape equipment you should consider buying, suggest you visit (as mentioned) a B&M Vape store. These *folks can answer your questions and guide you. The pico setup above is a beautiful combination, the tank (sub ohm) may be way too advanced for a beginner (tank is* ok if you get good hands on help).
If no help is readily available, suggest:
Eleaf Istick 40TC kit with Aspire Nautilus Mini.
Eleaf comes with built in battery (mine is working on it's second year and going strong)
Aspire coils are non sub ohm. Vape cloud is can be made stealthy.
Please see you tube for both Items above to get a rough idea.
