Here's a summary of the different delivery systems but does not include the Tank Atomizer:

atomizer/ atty- an element on to which 3-4 drops of juice is dripped- generally used for testing new juices as it easy to clean an atty.

cartridge/ cart- a container with sponge (filled with juice) that is used with the atty- juice drips on to atty from cart and is vaporized- old style "tank system" that is prone to leaks.

cartomizer/ carto- metal tube with stuffing and element-

carto+tank- a carto with a hole punched in it. Carto is than placed in a glass, metal or plastic tank which is filled with juice- juice saturates carto by way of hole in carto.

Clearomizer- a plastic or metal tank with a wick and element. Contains NO stuffing. The rebuildbales come with heads (coil+ wick) that can be cheaply and easily replaced. When the head burns out simply unscrew the old head out and screw in new head- takes 10 secs. My heads are lasting about 4 weeks BUT I wash the heads every few days. I've found the Vivi Nova to give the best draw- On some PVs the Stardusts have a tight draw.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm definitely still a noob, but I've rewicked my Vivi Nova before using cotton wick and silica wick. I have a basic understanding of how that works.

Please don't flame me too much for not truly understanding the parts of my vaporizer, but I'm assuming that the cartomizer is the metal cylinder that is inside my Vivi Nova? Then the head attaches to that with the wick, and the tank is the plastic tube that encases the whole thing? Perhaps I have this all wrong.

I see these wonderful looking tanks and I definitely want to buy one. But they don't have cartomizers that come with them. So what kind of cartomizer is supposed to go in them?

Again, sorry for my lack of understanding these basic terms. I've only been vaping for about 3-4 months now but I want to make sure I have the good stuff.

The Smoktech DCT tanks look awesome. I love the idea of glass or acrylic tanks.

So you guys are telling me that there are also cart-less or wickless tanks as well? I wouldn't even know where to begin. But everyone has posted some great information and I will definitely be doing as much research as I can.

Thank you!!

Thanks for clearing that up Vapoor eyes er. Now I know that my Vivi Nova is considered a clearomizer. Now I just need to find a BETTER clearomizer than the Vivi Nova, or perhaps try an alternate method of vaping all together. I do like the draw on the Vivi compared to the Stardust. But as of right now, neither of them are working so I'm vapeless at the moment.

If I were to go with one of these cool looking Smoketech units, or even a nice hand blown glass Phiniac, those are considered the carto+tank that you mentioned, correct? So I would definitely need to purchase a real cartomizer. They don't need to be filled with a syringe do they?

You guys have been a HUGE help.

Do you have a link to the tank that cracked? The older versions had wicking issues and cracking issues and I waited untill they resolved those issues. There's also a metal tank that you can buy for the Vivi as Citrus juices may crack them.
As far as a tank with a carto give me 15 mins as I kind of busy with work. I post a whole slew of choices for you.

This is the Vivi Nova I have, the 2.8ml version. It can be located here: Vivi Nova Tank

Perhaps this is an older version. It does not have any rubber gaskets on either end of the tank where the threads are, which is probably why this thing cracked. I assume the newer versions have gaskets.

I should also mention that my particular Vivi, the cartomizer in the middle seems to be leaking directly out of the bottom where it screws in to my vaporizer. Right out of the little hole where it screws in. I don't think that is normal either.

I just found out the other day that I had two different versions of the vivi nova. One was an older version that almost turned me away from them and the 3 new ones are the latest version. Very pleased with them. But I also like my mini vivi nova and my stardust also. All I have are rebuildable.

Badatitude, you did a great job job with those recommendations, you left out phiniacs tanks Phiniac Rugged Pyrex Glass Tanks
There are also some of my new favorites Kir fanis tanks Kir Fanis Mods - Cartomizer Tanks - Avid Vaper. I have the Phins, the Triple -V, the IBTanks and the Kirs. I think that the Phiniac and the IBTanks are the both great choices. I have Vivi Novas and Other rebuidable atty tanks but my favorite still seems to be the good ol cartomizer - tank combo. This means having to punch your cartos or spending a bit more for pre-punched ones. If you decide to go this way you will need some tools, a carto punch and a filling tool.
SO many choices for different vaping styles. All choices require some sort of work. The Genesis type of system needs a bit more work depending on the brand and some will run more than the price of a good MOD or more, if you can even get one, but you can start out with the simplest of them which I like such as the Phoenix RA, think the price has gone down to about 20.00 they come with a coil and wick attached and one extra if you buy the actual Phoenix brand. Clones dont have the extra but I have a genuine Phoenix and a clone and both work the same.

On the Vivi Nova there are 3 O Rings- one at the bottom of the head, one at the base where the plastic tank connects to the metal knurled base (inside the metal base) and the third on the Drip Tip. If any of these O Rings are not seated properly or are damaged leaking will occur. The top "drip tip" metal end has no O Ring- the silicon tube on top of the head is the seal between itself and the drip tip.

Here are some glass tanks:
The Phiniac Tank - Phiniac Rugged Pyrex Glass Tanks
And here is their clearance section:
Scratch & Dent - Phiniac Rugged Pyrex Glass Tanks
You would also need punched cartomizers. You can buy pre punched cartos or punch your own. I punch my own- one hole 2.5 mm and I vape anywhere from 60/40 to 80/20 PG/VG. For DIY punching you can buy a ¼” saddle valve from Lowes- good for about 50 holes:
Shop Watts 1/4-in Polyethylene Tube to Self Tapping Saddle Valve at Lowes.com
or this one:
V2 Cartomizer Punch - Phiniac Rugged Pyrex Glass Tanks
This Tank Tool makes it easy to refill carto tank:
Tank Tool/Filler Tip - Phiniac Rugged Pyrex Glass Tanks
A more pricey Tank Tool BUT it not only makes it easy to refill tank but aslo protects the O Rings on the tank when putting a new cartos in- very important:
Stainless Steel Slap Yo' Mama Multi-Purpose Adapter [SYMSS] - $12.99 : Big Daddy Vapor

Oh yea. Now we're talking. I'm loving these glass and acrylic tanks.

I think I'm going to back-away from the clearomizers for a bit and try the tank+carto options. As much as I like the ease of use of the clearomizers, I want a better quality product and it seems the people that make these nice glass and acrylic tanks know what a good-quality build is all about.

I see various places to purchase the cartomizers both unpunched and punched. I typically use a 2.8 Ohm head with my Vivi Nova. So I assume I should find a cartomizer that has a similar Ohm rating. The punch tools look easy enough to use so that's cool too.

So do you guys think I should replace/rebuild my cartos as frequently as I would replace my silica wicks in my clearomizer? I usually replace the wick or the whole head in my Vivi Nova about every 3-4 weeks. The cartomizers are so cheap, I will most likely just buy new ones to save on time instead of rebuilding them.

Would love to hear your recommendations on which cartomizers are good to use, pre-punched or not, good prices, etc. Based on my voltage variable mod titled the Wraith from the good folks at Vapoligy, they seem to use the standard 510 connection.

I'm learning more and more and you guys have been a huge help. So far I'm getting closer to my purchase. Here's what I've compiled so far.

1) Buy one of these sweet tanks, probably going to get the Lil' Mama or the Phiniac, haven't decided yet.
2) Buy a bunch of cartomizers, most likely I will buy them from the same place I buy the tank from.
3) Carto punch tool and something similar to the Slap Yo Momma tool for filling up the tank all the way.
4) A sweet new drip tip.

Great and glad you're making headway. I still LOVE my carto and tank setup. In regards to voltage here's a chart with ohms versus voltage depending on what voltage you want to vape

GFxNF.jpg

Don't know if you need this but here's the best video I could ever find for filling a carto- even when using a tank first fill is very important and will determine the longevity of the carto. With tank my cartos last, before tight draw:
light colored juices= 80-90 ml
dark heavy juices= 50-60 ml
As for the Slap Yo Mama Tool the WORST part of a tank is refilling- very messy and this tool is a must IMO.

You're very welcome danzigism and I'm just glad it's coming all together and you're stoked.
I assume punching the carto allows for the juice to seep in from the tank.
Yes the juice flows from the tank into the carto and keeps it saturated- that's prolly the reason the cartos last so long. The only problem I ever encountered with the tank was negative pressure in the tank. Not a big deal and always didn't happen BUT if you're finding for no good reason you're getting dry hits:
"Quick-tip - once its half empty you can depressurize it by removing the screw for 15 sec. This alows E-liquid to flow into the carto freely to help prevent a dry hit. Another tip for a dry carto - take the screw out and vape normally until you hear gurgling, replace screw and continue vaping. This tip can lead to flooding if done too long but works great for those rare cartos that just don't want to absorb e-liquid. Hope this helps!"

Edit: Maybe not explained so well in the copy/ paste above. When negative pressure builds up in the tank juice can't flow freely into the carto so we have to somehow allow air into the tank to take away the negative pressure- equalize the pressure.

The Very Best of Luck to You.

Definitely getting excited now. Wish I would have seen your post before I placed my order tj99959 :) But it's all good. I might get one of those 3ML J-Tanks to have as a secondary for sure.

Just went and bought:

* Naked regular sized Phiniac tank.
* Punch tool from Phiniac
* Pack of 10 LR 2.0-2.2 Ohm Boge style cartomizers from Big Daddy Vapor (Lil' Mamas. I usually vape around 3.5V or so.)
* Slap Yo Momma Tank Tool from Big Daddy Vapor

Total investment including shipping about $85.28

A bit pricey, but after seeing PBusardo's review of the Phiniac tank, I think I found the true quality that I'm looking for. I bet it will last a good while. I'll update this thread once I get everything. The fella over at Phiniac is undergoing some heart surgery at the moment so shipping with most likely be delayed until next week. Hope all is well.

Thanks again everyone for the excellent advice. NOW I get it.. Just took a good kick in the ..... Have a great day :)

That's a great setup. Why not go all the way? Include the surgical grade stainless steel caps!

evildee perhaps I will purchase some of those when I get the Phiniac in the mail. Would you prefer them over the standard caps that come with the Phiniac?

Since the owner of Phiniac is having heart surgery, I went ahead and ordered a J-Tank just for the heck of it.

Plus the seller that tj99959 recommended is down in Utah, and I live in Idaho. Should be a quick ship. It's been 2 days since my last vape :) Not going crazy like I would with cigarettes, but I'm eager to try the carto+tank method compared to the clearomizer that I've been used to all this time. Plus you can never have enough tanks!!

I will be extra careful with my cinnamon juices. I think that was ultimately the reason why my Vivi Nova started cracking. I was buying a flavor called "Cinnamon Bear" here at Vapoligy, and it tasted SO good I used it all the time practically. AND to top it off I was vaping Banana Nut Bread which I hear banana also causes plastic tanks to crack. Sounds like I created a recipe for disaster.

I've used a notcigs M1A1 for over a year, around 2000 ml (yes, 2000) through it, only had to replace one o-ring in that time.

Carto-wise I'm a huge fan of the Ikenvape 801 fusion, though I've now also started using their 510 platinum (new 510 connector bottom feeder). I fun about 20 ml through a carto before replacing it (I vape a relatively thin, clear, vanilla tobacco).

Yes, I do prefer them over the standard caps. They are on there so tight I don't bother to take them off. When I clean the tanks I just rinse with the caps on and paper towel dry the inside. There's nothing wrong with the standard caps. I just prefer solid steel. When you pick it up it just makes it feel more luxurious and mil-spec. When I pick up the Smoktech tanks they feel dainty and fragile. You really can't go wrong with glass and steel and the tank will last a lifetime.

You can't really go wrong with a Phiniac tank - quality materials and excellent service. I only have one Phiniac in my collection, and I put the tube on a Bella Elegance tank from Hoosier Vapes. It is a clear XL tube that I had them color sandblast one of their designs. The Bella Elegance tanks are top fill by twisting the one-piece top cap-mouthpiece off. Green e-juice is Ecto Plasma from juicy vapor. The tree frog tank is a custom made pyrex tank from High Desert Vapors.
