Well, I am dabbling with RAs now.

I have some 36awg nichrome and am winding coils that just wont seem to come in any lower than 3-4ohms.

There is probably a very simple answer to this probably stupid question but,

How can I get the resistance in the high 1s very low 2s? If I decrease the length of the wire by winding less I am getting down to like only 2 winds to the coil which seems ridiculous.

New different wire like 40 awg, tighter and smaller coils or what?

Much thanks and kindly excuse my naivete, just a total RA noob :)

Im using 0.20mm (dont know how much awg that is) nichrome and i always do 4 full wraps which gives me a 1.5-1.8 ohm coil. Using a phoenix RBA and cotton wick.

Your setup is exactly what I am working with, minus the wire gauge, which according to this Converter, Convert mm to AWG, milli-meters to american wire gauge, Calculate, Form, Table is 32 just like Ninfreak said to go with :)

Thanks y'all.

Now if I can somehow tweak this 36 (.12mm) stuff I have until I get 32... :)

Thanks!

That's brilliant :)

I will let you know how it works out...

Just passing along advice i saw somewhere myself :)

I use twisted 32awg on my genesis attys, a 4/3 wrap gives me around 1.2 ohms.
Twisting the 36 should atleast lower the ohm a bit.

You can see the twists in the pic

Well,

Wow. I tried it.

First of all winding all that Nichrome whilst listening to melancholy songs of my past was an ethereal and Zen-like experience. That alone was worth the effort.

But boy oh boy did it work! Too well actually.

My multimeter was all over the place. I can only assume that the winding of the wire freaked it out someway. I was getting like 2.5 down to just under an Ohm, what I think it settled on was about 1.2 ish.

The vapor was hot as hell (which is O.K. with me) but the atty was poppin' like a bowl of Rice Krispies and Pop Rocks candy in a bowl of Coca-Cola.(With the three little Rice Krispy gnomes doing stuff with a razor blade and a mirror)

{relax now, please,ECF po-po, I mean etching the glass for sale at a craft fair}

I kept getting noided out about my battery going supernova so I yanked out the coil and rewound a wussy-wrap of about 2 ohms.

Quite exciting though. Exciting enough to make me want a cheapo bolt or something with protected batteries just to see how far down that rabbit hole goes :)

Thanks again, like I said it's brilliant, and now that I've done it: It really is!
