The mouth ulcers mentioned in this thread are a common symptom of smoking cessation, so common they are referred to as the Quit Ulcers:

It is hard to avoid the feeling that people who suffer severe cigarette smoking withdrawal symptoms like this might consider smoking one cigarette a day in order to keep the symptoms under control, until they can quit without the consequences reported.

I've never had sores or irritation from vaping, and I still smoke a few cigs a day, after meals and a couple with coffee. I do get dry mouth from time to time from PG and remedy that with a glass of tea or a swish of water here and there. Dry mouth can allow the membranes to be attacked by all sorts of bacteria and other organism that are normally in the mouth anyway, so stay hydrated!

I can say that mint/spicy flavorings (cinnamon, peppermint, spearmint, etc.) give me trouble. I became sensitive to mint long before vaping and have even had to look for toothpaste that has no mint flavor or my tongue, cheeks, gums and the corners of my mouth become really irritated and sore. That may not be the problem here but I thought I'd throw that out there in case someone else might have undiagnosed problems with it.
