I just got my first rebuildable about a week ago, A Kayfun 3.1 clone. Before experimenting with this my main tank was a nautilus with 1.8 ohm coils which really throws out mad vapor. I have built 3 coils the first read 2.2 ohms on my mvp 2.0 ( that's all I have to check them). which was vey well on vapor production but was pretty hot even on low voltage/wattage setting. my second and third have been 1.2s even though I twisted the third less times around the small screwdriver I have been using. the 1.2s are ok on vapor but not as good as the 1.8s have been. How do I go about getting 1.8 ohms or close to it? would increasing the diameter of the coil change anything such as wrapping it around something bigger?

Yes, bigger diameter coils will change the ohms...different gauge wire will change the ohms...longer legs...shorter legs...all of it matters. I like 32ga 5 wraps on 1/16" drill bit. Sometimes 30ga with 6 wraps. You just have to experiment until you get it right...or what is right for you. I also aim for about 1.8 ohms.

some folks like micro coils (with the coils touching) for more surface area...some like open coils...it's all a matter of preference.

28 ga NICHROME 6/7 twist on a 1/16th bit for 1.1-1.0 coil.....Japanese cotton wick, fluff the tails and stuff.

Use the calculator. I prefer 1-1.4 ohms for the Kayfun lite V2.
I build the same...except. Just to try and save you some big bucks. The ... cotton is a 'gimmick sale'. Organic cotton balls, Walgreens (80 count bag $3)

I have one of those little box Ohm checkers. At ~$8.99 it was worth it. And, like you, I also use my MODs to show me what the coil reading is at. :p

Actually, I did the same as you. Nautilus & MVP2 to Kayfun 3.1. I am looking for the MVP3 to come out.

Anyway, The calculator helps. Fatter wire(lower gage), more resistance. Longer wire from post to post, more resistance. I use the same size mandrel (drill bit) for everything.

Good to hear. Good luck and have fun.
