Need advice please

I am looking to make a 5v mod, only problem is I only can get a 5v regulator without a control pin, can someone help, do I need a control pin? can some one please advice me on the wiring set up please, I have scoured the forum to no avail, i if I have missed the post could someone put a link to show me, thanks for the help eveyone
