I've tried to search for this, but haven't found any helpful information. I'm a newbie to this, I just started vaping exclusively in June. Anyway, I upgraded to the Nautilus from my Kanger evods, but I don't particularly care for the Nautilus, so I got some glass tanks from SlowTech (I'm broke, don't judge!). I still want to upgrade to a better (and relatively inexpensive) tank. I've been looking at the Kanger protanks but I can't decide between the 2 and 3. My question is this: I like to rewick my coils with cotton yarn, and it's easy to do on the regular single coil. I'm not rebuilding and making coils, simply removing the silica wick and replacing it with the cotton to make it last longer. I've seen plenty of videos of people rebuilding the whole coil, but none who just replace the wick. So is it possible to rewick the dual coil without taking the whole thing apart? Honestly this is the only thing that would keep me from getting the Protank 3, I don't want to have to buy new coils every other week ...no lie, I've only replaced one coil that I killed during a rewick, I've been using one of the coils since I got it in May, and the others have been going since the beginning of the month! I'm open to other suggestions too, Thanks in advance :)

ETA: I've also read that I can use a regular single coil atty if I add an extra silicone washer or an extra one of the silicone caps that comes on the standard coil. Has anyone tried this?

Yes, you can rewick the dual coil Kanger heads without removing the coils to do so. The old style are much simpler to do than the newer sealed wick heads, but both can be rewicked. I do it regularly. Just be careful removing and replacing wicks, or you could alter the resistance.
Also, be sure to do a dry burn on the coils to clean the gunk after removing the old wick and before you insert the new, if you're not doing that already.
I've never tried using a single coil head in a dual tank, though.

Btw, if you buy a pt2, or 3, buy a separate aero base for it. It'll fit either, will improve your experience and usually cost less than buying an Aerotank. Just be sure to get the V2, or V3 base - not the V1.
Good luck, good vaping and congrats for giving up the combustibles!

If you are going through re-wicking then re-building the coils is just an easy step and in my honest opinion a must as I find it gives you a much better vape and the satisfaction of knowing that the coil in the head is all your own work.

It's not hard and their are great tutorials on here and you tube to do this.

You mentioned the Protank 3 I assume that you mean that you don;t want to use the new upgraded enclosed coils? Yes they are a pain but can be re-wicked and re-coiled. I have found that with my kanger gear I now own a new kanger EMOW MEGA which I think is a great tank with excellent air flow that after everyone talking about the BVC (Bottom vertical coils) from aspire and how good they are why not build a vertical coil in the kanger heads to give it a go.

Here is a post I did on how I do this

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ed-kanger-dual-coil-single-vertical-coil.html

I have found that the vertical coil is amazing and even in these new enclosed coils I was blown away on how good my juice tastes.

Re-building once you have got all the gear is then a very inexpensive way to get a great vape in my opinion and a must if you are on a budget

So frustrated! I wrote a whole reply then something went sideways, and it just disappeared! Oh well...

I didn't know there are upgraded coils for the Protank, I'll have to check them out. As far as the BVC coils for the Nautilus...I really haven't had great luck with those. I was having issues with the coil not heating properly, so I went to the shop and they got me set up with an ego vv battery, which made a world of difference. After I cleaned them though (rinse, soak in alcohol, rinse really well, set out to dry), they got worse. Even with the biggest air hole open, it felt like I was trying to suck a milkshake through a straw. So I got a couple of the BDC coils and haven't had that problem, but it seems like they flood easier, a problem I've never had with my evods. I don't know if it's because I've done something wrong, like lay it on its side too much or something, but basically I'm not happy with it. (All the juices I have are 50/50, so it's not an issue of the juice being too thick.)

I'm looking at the Protank 3 over the 2 mainly because the 2 uses the same coils that I've already got. And I like the money savings of not having to buy new coils as often. As far as rebuilding goes...I started off with GreenSmoke, swore I'd never upgrade. Learned about juice, got my evods, swore I'd never mess with attys, just toss them when they were spent and buy new ones. Now I'm rewicking the coils and swore I'd never do a total rebuild, but given my history, it probably won't be long before I start that too! I'll probably go to the shop and see if they'll show me how to rebuild a kanger coil and go from there to see if it's something I'm interested in :)

The best setup is the protank 2 IMO. They are very inexpensive and the coils are easy to rebuild. Just use the air valve from the aero tank and get an istick battery and you will love it.......

Totally agree, bang for buck it's hard to beat with the adjustable base. And with $1 replacement coils don't even bother to rebuild them anymore. I do save all my old ones though in case the vape-apocalypse ever hits! :p

Thanks SS stingray and maraud! I ordered a "protank II style" tank and was pleasantly surprised the other day when it showed up and it has Kanger imprinted on the side of the tank. Especially since it was so cheap. I've got to make a trip to my local B&M anyway, so I'll see if they have the airflow adapters (I've seen some places that just sell the rings), hopefully I won't have to order one and wait for it to get here!

On a side note, I got an MVP 2 and I figured a battery's a battery, it will just last longer between charges...holy cow was I wrong! My juices taste so much better, and I'm getting a lot more vapor from it :D

You truly do need to at least look at the rebuild of these ... it is super cheep and is not all that technical.. a bad wrap or two will not harm a good quality batt ever and will both give you a few more to spend elsewhere and a skill that you never knew you were already holding.. give it a go.
