Hello Everyone,

So, I’m getting started with vaping.
For now, I prefer MTL vaping, and here’s how I am using my RTA and mod.

RTA: Kayfun Mini V3 replica from Fasttech
Coil: 26gg 316 Stainless Steel Wire, 2mm dia loop, 9 wraps
Juice: Extreme Ice from MtBakerVapor, 50/50 juice, 12 mg Nic
Mod: Joyetech eVic VTwo at 14W (Its showing 0.52 Ohms)

Wonder whether I am doing things correctly. I'd appreciate advice and comments on my set-up, build, and settings from veterans.
Thank you :)

If you are using TC should know more for Ohm law. ;)
I used my K3 mini with SS 28AWG around 0.8ohm coil, 2.5mm dial loop, 18.5W working power and 25W preheat for 1sec. without any problems. Heard that with low ohms your K3 will become too hot. Also you can use SS in power mode with no problem. U Should try and find your best setup. Cheers!

Your choices of gear is fine for mtl. You might want to consider building a coil with a higher resistance. How is the vape at 14W? It might be a bit low with a 0.5 ohm coil. Steam Engine is helpful for estimating the resistance of a new build, but always double check it by measuring the resistance, usually on your mod, before use.

Thank you, ValevGK :)

Just saw the Steam Engine applet; pretty cool; gave it a spin.
About 1 ohm would be fine for me, I guess. Figured that I need to get 28 awg 316L SS or 26 awg Kanthal A1 to do so easily.

Thank you, Eskie :)
The vape feels fine for now. No burning taste, good cloud, flavor coming through, and I haven't smoked analog since. However, as you said, to get to 1 ohm, I will need to get these new heating wires.

I vape at 10W, sometimes down to 8 and 9 watts on a new SS coil. For a Kayfun I do 10 1/2 wraps with the legs pointing outward one on each side to fit the coil between the screws. With 28ga SS316 that usually ends up around .8 to 1 ohms. The same coil with 28ga Kanthal is around 2 ohms, but TC doesn't support Kanthal. I vape Kanthal at 10W in power mode.

For TC mode I expand the SS coil slightly after winding to separate the wraps just enough that they don't touch. Then you can use that coil in TC or Wattage mode.

When you use Steam Engine pay attention to Heat Capacity on the right. Keep it in the green and your coil will perform well and heat quickly.

For MTL vaping everyone also needs a Kayfun Lite Plus V2. They are getting harder and harder to find since DTL vaping has become so popular. Buy it if you can find it. There are some out there for under $20.

looks good to me! most important thing is that you stay away from the smokes!

after I found a setup that worked, i started "exploring". I now normally carry two setups. one that i know will keep me satisfied, and another "experiment"

if you're happy where your at, stay there! if you want to explore, do that too! part of the joys of vaping is that there's not really a right way to do it.

Thank you, DaveP for sharing your coil build, and cool tips on "heat capacity field" and "expanding the coil" bit. Kayfun Lite Plus V2 clone is available in Fasttech; perhaps I will order one. So, you're Les Paul… fabulous \m/

Thank you petrotech. I agree, thats the way to stay away from smokes; one for reliability and a spare one for trying out things :)

Everything looks totally fine. As others have pointed out, you could probably find a slightly better wire for your purposes and for mouth-to-lung vaping, a higher resistance will likely be a little better. But after safety precautions, all that matters is that it feels good and right to you. People most definitely vape mouth-to-lung on certain sub ohm builds (and it wouldn't matter if they didn't!), so it's not like you're doing anything wrong or even all that unusual. I just bet you could build something a little more satisfying for your style.

In addition to what everyone else has said, I can throw in that I like a nice and very simple 28g kanthal single coil build for MTL, 7-8 wraps on 2mm, comes out to 1.1-1.2ohms, respectively.

I personally tend to go for 26g kanthal to build in more the .4-.8ohm range BUT I sometimes use a 26g kanthal 8 wraps on 2.5mm which should come out to just under 1 ohm.

7 wraps of 28g SS 316L on 2.5mm is also great! (Single coil, 1.2 ohms.)

It doesn't appear anyone has linked it; be sure to fiddle around some on the Steam Engine Coil Calculator to see how different wire types and sizes will affect your results, not to mention using the calculator when actually building so you know exactly what you'll end up with. :)

Sure sounds like you're doing everything right, including research.

Great. I only have 26g 316L SS right now. I have ordered for 26g and 28g Kanthal and 28g 316L SS. So, Once they arrive, I'll try these builds

Very cool applet. ValevGK had linked it earlier.

This is something different.. Will give it a try :)
For me using steamengine. I fing my best k a y fun builds fall with a surface area wise right around 100 +- 50..... Heat Flux of > 200. With wattage at 15... I'll run at 25watts or less. But rarely below 15watts. Won't state an ohm range as that only matters when I build for a mech... mechs I use from .9 to 1.3 ohm with the KFL
