Since red is actually the positive battery lead if that's pulled first the system is dead as well. I can monitor current through the cartomizer input/output with my regular charging monitor system although I can't get a cartomizer on it that way to watch current draw when in use. Since my original plan for this battery was to use it to make a better monitor system by cannabalizing the threaded end, I'll probably work up the nerve to pop the red lead and tack on a test lead so I can watch what's happening to that mysterious 10ma I keep seeing.

Yeah but the red is 0.2mm close to the sensor body, even with my fine tips i caused a short. The black is less forgiving.
You will find out.

The spacing looks very even on the one I'm looking at. In fact the ASIC lead looks like the worst case to try to desolder. When I do it, I'll let you know how it goes.

I may reconsider this. I don't have plastic tweezers at the moment but I do have a good temperature contolled soldering station. With my luck I can hear myself yelling "GRENADE!"

You should have seen me trying to find a way in a split second to throw it after the short, on one side of the lab i have chemicals used in fireworks (explosive), on the other side i have strong acids and on a different place i still have fuses and other flammable stuff.... So i decided to leave it on the desk lol. Nothing much can happen if the sensor is connected because it shuts off in case of a short.
Unless you short the battery alone you are fine with some tiny sparks..
