I have used this regulator with good results. LDO 5 volt, 3.0 amp regulator with control pin! I am sure others will chime in with alot of good ideas aswell. This has the control pin too so you can use any switch you want.

With the box you are going to use. It will make a neat lookin mod but BE CAREFUL while drilling them out, they will crack easily. Especially if you drop it!

The energizer batteries will be underpowered. They each only give 1.5v.. 2x AA's wouldn't even justify having the regulator. I would go with 2x 14500 (be sure they are protected) which can be purchased at MV for a low cost awell. 14500's are basically the same size as AA's, each put off 4.2v fully charged and 3.6 as more of a constant. The AA's WILL work if you use more of them, I would say 4 to give you 6v then your regulator would bring it down to 5v. That makes for a BIG mod tho.

with 2x 14500's running in series that will give you 7.4v-8.4 w/full charge. So yes, I would deffinitely get the regulator. I have 4x UltraFire 14500's atm and they work fine for me. 2 last me 10+ hours at 5v. I have not tried the others so I can't say anything about them. Other people would recommend the IMR14500's but again I have no experience with them, and MV doesn't carry them.

The 3x AA box will be big enough, but a tight fit. Just Dry fit everything in the box before you start to make sure you have room.

You are very welcome, just glad I can help!

I have read a few things about people using those. Haven't seen anything bad about them, so I would say give it a shot. Not sure if you would know this, be sure to use a switch that can handle the amps. I usually go for the 3 amp switches, they are pretty big. Be sure you think about your switch size in that box. The reg, switch, 3ml. bottle, and atty connector might take up too much real estate in the one AA slot. Which leads me back to the reg I mentioned, it allows you to use the sub micro switches.

you can always trim the legs on the regulator too, just be careful how much you bend them. They will shear off.

I know you want a bottom feed, but you might think about making one minus the feeder first.

This is for the one I mentioned above.

I won't be much help beyond this point LOL I am still a newb. Hopefully someone else can tell you about more regulators.

Yes, the reg you decide on needs to have a control pin for the switch to be connected to. I like these little guys, Tactile Switch with Round actuator, 300g.. I used one just wired in like a 3amp switch would be (without a reg) and it burnt up in the first night vaping at only 3.7v. I use another switch the exact same style one. Except I use a reg and vape constantly at 5v, the switch doesn't even get warm. Going on 1 1/2 weeks with it and workin perfect still.

Excellent advice Lazrah! Although I'm by no ways an electronic expert, I agree with all the advice Lazrah has given you big. Even with using a 3mL bottle, you might not fit it and the regulator, switch and atty connector in the one AA slot. Like Lazrah said, place everything in the slot loose to see if it will fit.
