I have a manual mega 510 battery from madvapes, that I just noticed got very hot, and smoke strted coming out of the end where the LED is. I had just put on a new cartomizer that i also got from madvapes. I don't know whther a cartomizer can kill a battery like this or not, but I have other cartomizers that have worked well from the same batch. I am obviously hesitant to try any others, as i now only have 1 battery that might work. The smoking battery i am assuming shouldn't be used any more.

Do not use or recharge the battery. The only thing you can do with it now is send it back with a request for a replacement. And you may want to get more batteries, or a passthru. Life isn't good with only ONE battery...
I'm pretty new but I've read of bad cartos killing batteries. I think you may want to quarantine that carto but if you have one that you know works for sure, you could probably try it on the smoking battery once it cools off.
edit: Of course you can also send it back if it's within warranty (the carto too).

WOW! I've never seen this before lol sounds pretty intense..
i personally don't think that the carto caused the problem..probably just a bad batt.

Yikes, yikes, yikes!! I don't think I've heard of this problem on here before with the 510's, but that's pretty scaryyyyy! Are they genuine Joye 510, do you know? I don't know about Madvapes, I've only ordered mine through Cignot and they sell the genuine ones.
Yes, for sure, call them and send it back. I've only tried one 5 pack of the cartomizers for mine and that was about 6 weeks ago and was planning to order some this week. Keep us posted on this please and good luck

I wouldn't have thought so, but I had been using that battery fine for most of the day, and it happened within minutes of putting on a new carto.
Not to my knowledge. They weren't listed that way on the site when I bought them.
OK, I'm stumped too!! I had 7 eGo batteries go belly up on me about a month ago when I was using LR attys so thought it may have been related. One of my dead batteries fried the USB charger when I tried to re-charge, lots of smoke and melted plastic.
The first I knew there was a problem was when the cat came running out of the bedroom, it was sleeping by the computer at the time!!! LOL
okay did you check the button to make sure its not stuck in like your pressing it down when you vape? Just a thought as I have a pt where the button got stuck and didn't realize it.
Actually, I had thought of that. At the time it was too hot to touch for long. Later, after it cooled it didn't seem to be stuck; but it might have been. That was my first thought and possibly is what actually happened. Although there is supposed to be a cut off built in.
Very, very true!!! I thought it had done in the PC as well. The keyboard wasn't working when I fired it back up, fortunately I unplugged all the bits and it restarted with no problems.
Lesson learned.
Looking at it now, the switch is hosed. No play in it at all. I wonder how I am supposed to send it back; since the battery may still have power left in it and if it starts smoking while in transit I am not sure what might happen. I have a feeling the postal service wouldn't be happy to have a package catch fire.
Once I had a lot of juice that got where the connection is b/w the atomizer and the battery unit. It killed the battery in the unit, and after that, every other battery I used would just get hotter and hotter if I pressed the button, with no vapor. But the battery would be cold if I disconnected it. I'm not sure if that is the same issue with you, but I it is the only time the BATTERY actually got hot with me.
I fixed it by getting a new atomizer. I didn't need to get a new unit with the "button." Just a new atomizer. In the end though that unit just never worked that great and I switched models. It was a Puresmoker Protege.
