The SMPL requires more safety attention from the user as it does not have a locking ring and does not have a top cap. The connection from the atty is straight to the battery so unless your atty has a protruding 510 pin it will short. There may be atty's that cannot be used on this mod. I have not done any research on this.

The nemesis does have a locking ring and a top cap. Any atty can be safety used and can be adjusted so that it is flush with the mod. The mod can also be adjusted for battery rattle.

Watch some YouTube videos if you have any questions on how these two mech mods differ. As for clones, again research the different clone makers for both of these, as not all clones are created equal.

I don't own a SMPL but do have a nemesis clone by hcigar and have had no problems at all (even with the spring). It was "crunchy" at first but that smoothed out over time. Many members did choose to replace the spring with magnets.

Hopefully others will weigh in, especially on the SMPL.

Can't speak to the SMPL but I bought a Nemesis clone from Fasttech a while back and it was really disappointing. It worked well for about a week, then one day the locking ring seized and I couldn't get it to budge. Went into the machine shop at work, tightened it up in the vice, and starting twisting with a pair of vice grips. The stupid thing disintegrated. Personally, I'm not a fan of the spring mech mods. I have a magneto clone and love it - the magnetic switching is oh-so-smooth and it has never given me a problem. It's really fun to use in 18350 mode too, it can be a tiny little stealther or a big old monster, depending on your mood!

I have a 4nine, copper panzer and a copper kulturo.

From my experience, the 4nine proved to be the easiest to use. The locking rings on my panzer and kulturo has seized for god knows how many times. As the locking rings are reverse threaded, every time you put your battery in after charging, you will twist anti-clockwise to tighten the part of the mod with the locking ring to the rest of the mod (at least thats how I do it), and after tightening it, you have to twist your locking ring again in the anti-clockwise direction to lock it and that tightens the mod part even more (idk if this even makes sense anymore). This results in the switch (firing button) part of the mod to be overtightened and stuck to the mod, and the next time you want to take your battery out again, you have to twist clockwise with a lot of force in order to unthread the switch from the mod, and your locking ring gets stuck to the switch because your used too much force.

TLDR: get the 4nine/SMPL/praxis mod which does not have a locking ring but won't fire when placed on a flat surface

This is a long-term issue with them and the nemesis and such. A tip when you get them: after cleaning them, lube the threads with ox-guard (others use mineral oil, a sliver from a bar of soap rubbed into the locking ring threads, etc.)

I took an extra O-Ring from one of my attys and put it between the lock ring and tube... the o ring acts as a stop before the ring can get jammed
