NEED HELP with 18650 issues-Vaporesso polar kit

Hey this is my first post Idk if anyone will read it that knows but, I don't know much about batteries every where I try to learn about them is so complicated. Anyway, I had 18650s Orbtronic brand. And a night core v2 charger. I haven't used these batteries in like 6 months, but back then they worked fine. Today I got a new mod and tried to charge them- the night core lit up one time and then no lights, no charging. Tried again and tried another plug but they won't charge. Are they dead, do I need new ones? Is it because they were unused for so long? I hope it's not the charger as well. Also I don't kno what brands of 18650s I should be getting, or what the amp stuff means- it really confuses me- all I know is the mod I'm using is a vaporesso polar kit. when I got the Ortronic batteries they say they are ultra high drain 30 amp. What should I be looking for for this mod I have ? Lol thanks for any info!!

That brand seems a bit fishy with their ratings imo. Sounds like they are exaggerated. I personally would trust them.

I would only buy batteries from trusted vendors such as these.

Here is a chart from our local battery guru Mooch. It has his recommended batteries that he has personally tested.

Two batteries missing from that list that are quite good are the Samsung 25S (20A) and the Samsung 20S (30a).

On the bottom of the chart it shows how many watts each amp range can handle. If your mod runs 2 batteries so it doubles the max wattage (2 20a batteries would be good up to 120w, 2 25a good up to 150w, and so on).

orbtronic the website sells other brands (including those on Mooch's chart) but orbtronic the batteries are NOT on Mooch's chart....probably for a reason.

Mooch tries to put out a new chart periodically and that date is the expected release date of the next chart, as long as you have the latest one it's fine.

I think that may mean the batteries are dead so the charger won't read them to charge. I would suggest getting some new batteries (see Mooch's spreadsheet for best brands/models. If you need us to help you choose, let us know what mod you have and what wattages you plan on vaping at.

Exactly as ScottP said.

The website of Orbtronic's is a trusted battery vendor. That does not make their own branded battery any good, or accurately rated. It just means they sell authentic batteries from their site, and not known to sell fake or clone batteries.

Orbtronics doesn't have a battery factory. The Orbtronic brand batteries are re-wraps, usually Panasonics or Samsung or Lg. It usually states this in the product description on their website.

Concerning the current situation, the batteries might be defective, or the charger may have blown an internal fuse. Since the batteries are older, what condition are the insulation wraps and insulation rings on the batteries? If in poor shape, this could have caused a short that fried the charger and the batteries. Maybe you should consider yourself lucky? (see below pic)

I have provided a little more information which might help choosing/evaluating batteries.

The vaporesso polar mod can be charged via the usb port, maybe you could try that to determine if it's the batteries or the charger.

Why not charge with usb from the mod just to see if it's the battery or the charger. I wouldn't continually charge this way but you'll be able to find out if it's the batteries or the charger.

I was just going to say the same thing!

Good God, the ECF has gone down hill. Some of the responses here are comical. I've been an Orbtronic customer since 2008 for my vaping batteries. Haven't tried their newer 30A 3120mah 18650's, but they are most likely Panasonic. Also, that chart is outdated and the fact that it's missing Orbtronic at the top of its list of recommended vendors - and doesn't list Sony VTC's as the default go-to-battery make me question it.

Orbtronic was probably the only place you could find real Sony batteries when vaping took off and counterfeits where everywhere. I would not trust a vape store, Amazon or anyone else over them. The owner of Orbtronic knows what he is buying and the items don't change hands from resellers or wholesalers.

From what I have read, no one is discrediting Orbtronic as a retailer. As for cells under the Orbtronic brand, they are re-wraps and judging by past tests, ones with exaggerated ratings.

The above list evolves and is periodically updated. Only cells that are tested and meet certain qualities make the list. The Orbtronic 30A 3120mah, which I suspect is overrated, does not show up under Mooch’s battery tests – therefore it will not make the list. If it has not been tested, regardless of it’s performance, it will not make the list based on specs alone.

I'm assuming you are referring to Battery Mooch's recommended battery list above.

Mooch is an ECF member whose professional occupation is testing batteries for specification accuracy and rating their performance for the vaping community. I trust his findings over and above any other so called "expert".

Without having my hands on the batteries and a multi-meter, and knowing what the voltage in them was before you put them into semi-retirement it's hard to be sure. If I was make a guess I would say that the voltage in the batteries has fallen so low that they are dead and require recycling. I'm sure of the specific specifications of your charger, but I know that many chargers will refuse to charge cells that are too heavily discharged. Even if you could recharge them, they could well be damaged and potentially unsafe to use.
At below 2.0V or so the copper electrode inside some li-ion batteries literally starts to dissolve. When the battery is recharged this free copper starts to plate itself onto places in the battery that should not become conductive.

Well, it is either the battery or the charger. I have an old Kanger nano mod with stripped threads that takes one 18650 battery. I keep it around just for that type of purpose because I would not want to blow up my good mod in the event of an issue. If I have a battery that does not charge and I am not sure if it the battery or my charger --I would do one of two things;

----either test the charger with a known good battery from a working mod to see if it lights
-----or I try the battery I am unsure of in my Mod that I only use for this purpose.

When I troubleshoot anything I try to take the most basic simplest steps first to determine where the issue is.
