Hello all. Let me start of by saying that i am in the National Guard and i will be deploying some time later this year, and I decided that none of the mods can meet my needs, so I've decided to build my own mod.It is going to be bigger than anything I've seen, but will be tactically sane. The case I have chosen is the same case I carried my analog pack in during a previous mobilization, the otterbox 1000 case http://www.otterbox.com/OtterBox-10...-01_color=01&start=3&cgid=otterbox-1000-cases . I've been researching my project for over a month now and I have came up with two different solutions, and one possible idea. Let me also say that I am not an electrical engineer and cannot dicipher your guys magic lingo, so please don't berate me with your circuitry mathematic skills. Simple feed back please.

My first idea, and also the one I have put the most thought into is this:
164736_154994804552097_100001247366790_321727_5638978_n.jpg

I this is just a copy of http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...6-very-easy-vv-mod-w-switching-regulator.html . my switch is waterproof, durable, and can handle the juice needed http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...75900&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_2372wt_1242 . Amazon doesnt have the specs on it, and I lost the site I had found the info. The dual 18650 battery holder is from digikey.com. I like this mod for price and how easy to assemble it while actually be and it would be a VV mod.

mod solution #2 is same case and switch, but buying a tekkeon from amazon or ebay, hacking it up and fitting the guts into my case. I would turn the usb port upwards so when you open you see the ports. The layout of the atomizer would be high center but with the switch in the far top right corner of the diagram. custom battery boxs too, so I could swap out batteries, and have enough juice in one box to need power for a full week but I am not sure if I would have enough room. This mod is easy and I can follow any of the various tutorials out there, just the end result would be a different case. Another plus is that I have two o these otterboxs and I could mod a portable solar panel into the second one. If I did this, looking back, I would not need the battery holder. Only issue I have is that I have not seen a variable volt mod how to, so it would be a fixed 5v. I see alot of functionality of this one tho, so I am leaning towards this one even still.

My third idea is still just that. It would be a single 18650 battery using a VV boost circuit with usb built in to charge it up with, but all I can find is those crazy diagrams with hocus pocus squiggly lines called a diagram. I am great with my hands and can make mods, but for me my learning process has always been a monkey see, monkey do kind of way. This leaves this idea pretty much dead in the water, but i can dream.

in all of these mods while I was writing this up, Ive decided to mount my atty connector to a a raised swivel type mount so that I can use Nhaler's ato-miser inside the case. To vape it I can take a government issue pen apart and stick thru the pre-drilled hole. this will put the hole closer to even possibly over both halves, making it harder to water proof, but it will be worth it as it would be easy and cheap to buy enough wire to take with me that will last the whole year. I already have plans to use a rubber plunger to plug the hole while not it use.

Any comments , ideas, or help will be greatly appreciated.

Option 1.....

I would mount the VV board where I could gain access to it should it fail. Pop in another and you're cooking. If you've never used that board and connector before, know that it's a one time plug in. It locks tight and it's dificult to remove the wiring harness. It can be done, but it's not easy to do.

first of all, thanks for your service!

OIF 09-11, PA ARNG, returned and ETS'd last september

To address your idea: it is very dangerous to use batteries without any kind of venting. If a battery were to malfunction, it would pressurize the mod, possibly leading to catastrophic failure (explosion).

To combat this, you could drill a hole in the box and fill it with silicone sealant. No guarantees, but the sealant should fail before the case, letting the pressure vent.

I have the same pelican case that I plan on using for a ruggedized mod, haven't gotten around to it yet though.

great idea and good tip, my previous idea was to permanently attach the board, but that would be dumb, and I could easily afford and transport 4-5 of these with me that way I'm not stranded for months at a time waiting on replacements. I do however plan on hopefully getting a provari with my tax refund this year, but it will stored safely away from me during training and missions, so I'll at least have one back up. also, I know people will think this mod, and it is for normal use, but this is the same case that I have used for years now and I am comfortable carrying it on my person.

I totally spaced on the battery vent, thanks! This is why I am posting before building, lol.

If you have not already gotten a regulator, you will either have to wait until February or get one like I am looking into. I tried to buy that regulator off of ebay and the seller just contacted me the other day and said they are out and will not have anymore until Feb.
I am looking into getting this one. Dimension Engineering
edit - I was looking at your diagram. I think you may have the converter wired backwards. You got the battery going into the Voltage out.

Well this project will be delayed until I get my new debit card. Someone tried to buy stuff in the UK with my old card, funny enough they were attempting to by dental equipment. Lucky my check hadn't cleared, and my account was to low so my card was rejected. That and visa fraud caught it and called me. Funny I'm not that mad, more amused. Plus, now I have more time to do research.

just a heads up: inform your bank that you are being deployed to iraq. My account was frozen on my 2nd day in country because they thought the charges were fraudulent. Had to wait almost 2 weeks to get a new card.

For this specific use I would keep it simple (and reliable). A pair of 18650's in parallel and a handful of LR atties... done.
I hate LR's, they make me cough alot, and they are too cool, and the life sucks. But simple does sound better, I might just go with 2 18650s, 5v regulator, switch and atty. Ive built one like that before, and it is fast and easy to do, plus the more I think about this device, the less i want to invest time into actually building it. plus less parts +easier to fix.

o4_srt : I'm glad you reminded me of that, Ive forgotten to do that every deployment, Im writing that down on my personal premob checklist.

Not to pull away from what you are talking about but it must be the kind of LR atty you were using. Every single LR atty I have bought have yet to die on me as far as life is concerned. It all depends on what the wattage of you vape I guess. My sweet spot is right about 7.8 watts. It is where I get my favorite flavors out of my juice. To each their own though I guess.

Is your bank a federal credit union? If you dont have one, I would get one before you get out. I never had to worry about letting my banks know when I was getting deployed. Then again, I am sure that all of my purchases were online, never really bought anything over there with my debit/credit card on the open market.

skyway: The LR; that I have used are a good quality I'm not trying to say they are trash. I have hooked up all my friends on them and they swear by them now. They longevity of them are long but slightly diminished compared to my HV ones. They are nice, but the taste of HV and warmth just is better to my personal taste.

My bank, funny enough is etrade. I haven't owned any stock since before the economy blunder, I saw it coming and sold off everything before the panic hit so I did ok. They charges are none existent, and customer service is the best of any bank I have ever used, so I kept them even afte I sold off my stocks, lol. Since they have so few branches, they reimburse alot of ATM fees so I can use any bank.
