Need help peoples!
Received my first line ss a few days back. Had beginner's luck and got a nice setup going on my second attempt. However, last night I thought I'd have some fun and make a new setup and I'm being tormented by hot spots. Well I should say 'hot spot' as its always in the same spot between the short post and the bottom coil. Either that or the wire snaps in that spot. I'm wrapping tight around the post, I've oxidized the .... out of the wick, I've tried pulling and pushing the posts closer to the wick when ignited. Basically I've tried everything I've seen posted about similar problems on vw. I should mention that I'm using Kanthal 33 awg as I'm waiting for my 32 awg to arrive.

Can somebody please help me before I strangle myself with this Kanthal, if there's any left as I've gone through .... loads trying to get back in action.

Ok,

Hot spots can be cause by over tighting the wire to the wick. I would recommend the paper, or cotton trick.

1st option, Make your wick, and then wrap cig rolling paper aroung the wick where the coil will go. Then wrap you coil around the paper. Does not need much, like 1/4" x 1/2" piece will do. Once connected, soak with juice and pulse fire it until the coil glows evenly (no more juice left) This will burn off the paper and leave a carbon foot print beneath the coil wraps. then vape as normal.

2nd option, take a cotton ball and touch the wick to the cotton ball lightly in a slow spinning fashion in the spot where the wire will touch the coil. This will pull small pieces of cotton from the ball like spider webing, smoth it between you fingers and repeat until the wick is lightly coated with cotton strands (not thick). Then wrap your coil and connect it. soak and vape, no burn off process.

Hope this helps.

this is the method (2nd option) the Dan was speaking of :

Mesh/Cotton hybrid wick Bluegrasslover's method - YouTube

I use this on all my SS mesh wicks and it works perfect everytime. You still oxidize the wick it just adds another lil layer to there is less risk of "scraping off" oxidation when wrapping a coil. Keep in mind that the mesh can also short on the tank body itself, I use this cotton method all the way from where the coil will be to where the wick will enter the tank for a lil more shielding at that contact point. Also it helps a bit with wicking.
