Buss - eGo XL cartomizers (message #6 above)

Hmm, ok, see that now... that complicates things a bit... first of all, order standard 510 carto's, LiteCigUSA has a box of 5 from BOGE for $8. Won't help right now however.

If people want ease of use (and many, if not most do) should not be ordering either the CE2's or the XL as they require a syringe to fill...hassle.

This is not something I would normally advise a new person to vaping, but looking at the most recent comment................ He may be speaking of dripping. Dripping is when you take the filler out of your cart and put 3 drips from your e-liquid bottle directly into the atomizer on the mesh. Replace empty cart and you can get about 4 good pulls along with taste and vapor. Most use what is called a drip tip instead of the empty cart. Be careful not to run the atomizer dry as this will blow the atomizer. If it gurgles, then you have flooded the atomizer. Slowly and easily vape through the flood. You will have a dry, metallic, less e-liquid flavor if running dry.
Another option is to use cartomizers for a 510.
I think it is always best to learn to use the carts and learn about atomizers before moving on to bigger things.

YouTube - drip tips
Vids for drip tips

I started with dripping

When I get the chance to smoke or vape during the day it's generally only for a few puffs and thought dripping might work well for that. 1-2 drops works well for the time I have. I also found that using a lighter was part of my smoking ritual so dripping gives me a start up, and then a finish when it starts to taste dry. But everyone is a little different.

After reading through this thread I think I need to pick up a few of the 510 cartos. I have the cartridges and while having to top them off frequently isn't a huge deal it's not something I want to deal with when I'm not dripping. I also think cartos would just be more convenient than carts when driving, or in general really. I have the mega carto but it's almost intimidating to try and fill after watching a few youtube vids on refilling.

I got 5 cartomizers with my order. However, the syringe I got seperately can't fit in the tiny juice bottle. The tip wasn't long enuf. So after "hard work" of trying to take the cartomizer apart, I was struggling with the juice. It;s funny how noob a newb can be. I just can't get 1.8ml juice with the syringe so I threw everything back in the box and start topping off my cart again. I TRIED! lol

Unless i should pour the ejuice out of its bottle into a cup? Tell me it'll get easier... plzz.

The dripper tip will pop off. I do this by....Unscrew the top cap and tilt it to the side forcing the dip tip off. Or, just use a napkin and holding the drip top pull to the side, it will pop off. If you can get the needle tip into the drip opening, just turn the bottle sideways or if enough juice is in it, upside down will do. Hope this helps.

TheBuss: Please put your suggestions here as we can all learn from one another. Would love to know if there are some better ways to help others!

I have never had a MEGA carto as i don't want them - too much hassle for me. Can someone please PM KissMint and assist her that has used them.

This is why I give a very simple list to order for a newb. CE2, XL, LR atomizers - whatever "might" be better. It makes no difference. Those are toys to play with for later on - not for a newb.

In addition, I have yet to see one favorable comment about the new XL cartomizers for the EGO - only complaints.

I have just recently, last week, become the owner of the mega catomizers. I had watched a couple vids on the filling of them. My first go was successful.
I popped the top from the mouthpiece, using a paperclip.
Beyond that piece, is a second piece, with two holes. Put the clip in one of those holes and popped it out.
Further beyond is a foil cover that needs to be pierced. We'll get to that in a sec.
At this point I get my syringe and put in a little more than 1.5ml of e-liquid. If you remove the dripper top (from the e-liquid bottle) it is real easy to fill the syringe-leave this top off.
Put the needle down to the foil and press with a bit of pressure, you will know when it penetrates the foil. Lower further and begin to fill the carto pulling the needle up slowly as liquid is released into the carto. When I dispensed half the liquid, I rotated the carto and did the same thing thus emptying the syringe.
When I finished filling the carto, I set it on top of the e-liquid bottle-thread side down on the e-liquid bottle for a few minutes. I did this in case I had overfilled. This allowed any excess to drip back into the e-liquid bottle so as not to waste.
I then popped both the caps back in place.
Hope this helps.

Added: I have read how others are filling these through the threaded end. Well, since I have already popped the foil seal, I thought I would try doing it that way. One measly drip drop at a time, it does work. The drips are sucked into the carto, one by one. I would have no clue as to how long it would take to fill one this way, but it works. Probably good for topping off. Not sure how long you would want it to set so that the liquid gets dispersed properly and evenly.
I get plenty of flavor with the mega cartomizers but it is not a warm vape like I get with atomizers.

Well, I had no clue you did not have a needle. Sorry, without a needle none of the syringe methods will work.
You can go to a local pharmacy, Walmart, CVS or whatever and get a 16-18 gauge needle for about a quarter and the syringe for a tad more.
Or just follow my earlier suggestions and use the paperclip to pierce the foil and drip through the threads, it will take a while to get it filled-5 minutes or so, I would guess.
Kinda makes me a tad upset that I did not know all the relevant information, I should have asked more questions, my bad. I do hope you get it all worked out.
I try to help you work with what you have already purchased, not get you to buy more product. What you have can and will work with the right knowledge and tools.
Don't get rid of those cartomizers, they'll do real good in a pinch, when nothing else is working!
Good Luck!

Thank you Asti for remembering this was my post to begin with. I don't mind all the side posts because they are usually helpful also, but I wish someone would answer the questions I post first. I been a little scared to try my Ego again since last night cause I felt so light headed. I wish I knew the comparison of nicotine mg's from this to my analogs. I also got some on my hands--could this maybe contribute to me feeling light headed? Not sure what I want to try next

Its not a side post Erin its called hijacking a thread -
hijacked.gif
which yours was...

Getting the juice on your hands will cause a higher level in your system, yes... simply wash your hands - took me about 3 times before I got comfy with refilling the cartridges or cartO's without being sloppy paper towel is good to have handy.
After the first few times I used the Ego I felt like I had a stocking cap on my head, not a head-ache, or 'fuzzy' light-headed, but I just stopped for a little while and it went away - I'm thinking it is just hitting my system differently since its just nicotine now and not all the rest of the junk as in analogs.
I smoked little cigars and went with an 11 and a 16 mg juice, the Ego pre-filled just say high on them as you know, but I'm not sure how much is in there.
Something that might be helpful is to loosen your lips a bit to allow for some 'outside' air to mix in with your inhale.

One thing I was told right off was that the atomizers need to be blown out prior to use as they have some kinda shipping stuff in them, so I used canned air and it still took about 20 mins for them to drain off!

Thanks for your support Asti...i was gonna try the Cartomizers I got but I don't see how they fit on the whole thing. It says they're 510 SLB soft cap cartomizers...these last longer too, right? Also, about how often do you have to clean everything? Still I'm not getting good vapor when I do this--wonder what I'm doing wrong....everything, I think!

I came back to check on you today, erin. I treid to answer as many questions as quickly as I could last night.
I have not found anything written in stone on the nic mg comparing cigarettes to e-cigarettes that makes me feel comfortable giving an answer to that question. I do know that we all absorb nicotine at different rates, which until more testing is done, just makes for a hard question to answer.
We used to take 15-20 drags from a cigarette and some people have continued to do just that with the e-cigarette. Others just vape until they feel the urge is satisfied. A lot of people are using them with a puff here and a puff there, while others are never really putting them down.
You can get a bit lightheaded in the beginning. This is sometimes due to vaping too much. Plus you tend to take in more air which can add to the lighheadedness. As I said last night, just go outside and take a break, get some fresh air. What I did fail to say is to drink plenty of water while vaping. Vaping does dehydrate the body.
You should always wash off any nicotine you get on you while refilling and fiddling with the e-cigarette. You don't want to forget and wipe your eyes with your finger and then have it in your eyes.

I haven't used either long enough to tell the different between the cartridges or cartomizers, LOL
The cartomizer has a screw-in end... both clear caps come off, and the one where the screw-tip is has a little "pin" looking bit of cap as well, one of mine stuck in there when I yanked the cap off...
the cartomizers can be filled up by a ridiculously easy method as can be seen YouTube - Refill Ecig Cartos Quick and Easy (CCFM)
Wipe off the end well before use!
what mg level of juice did you get? Did you blow the atomizers out?

Thank you all. I ordered regular 510 cartos online. Thanks thebuss. My syringe is fatter than the ejuice bottles and it came with no needle, i got 10 tiny sample flavors and couple of 5ml bottles.. but i'll try and see if I can open it up without swimming in ejuice while I wait for the cartos. thanksss!

I hate to complicate things but drugstores do sell syringes also - not just ecig sellers... lol.

Erin - The cartomizer screws into the battery. The little "pin" looking bit of a cap that asti mentioned is called a "buttplug." :) You don't need that for anything, unless you want to use it after you refill the cartomizers to keep the juice from leaking out. The easiest way to refill a cartomizer is to remove the white rubber end plug and drip a certain number of drops right into the filter inside. If the carto is new and empty, 20 drops is about right. When it's time to refill it, about 15 drops is right, depending on how empty you vaped it. If you get a burnt taste while vaping a carto, it means it needs to be refilled and is burning the filter. If you continue to vape when getting a burnt taste, you'll ruin the cartomizer.

Vapor comes from the VG (vegetable glycerine) that's added to the liquid you order. PG (propylene glycol) that's added helps with better throat hits. If your liquid contains VG, and if the cartomizer has been filled, you should be getting vapor. If the liquid you ordered has 100% PG or not very much VG, you can add more VG using Glycerin, which is available at Walmart by the rubbing alcohol products for $3 for a 6 ounce bottle. I would add just a little, like 10-20% Glycerin to your pre-mixed liquid and experiment until you get the amount of vapor you want. Adding too much Glycerin will reduce the flavor and throat hits.

The threaded ends of the battery and cartomizers should be cleaned often. I clean them sometimes every time I change cartomizers to get the black stuff off from the threaded end of the battery. If liquid drops through the threaded end of the cartomizer, you should clean it off with rubbing alcohol before screwing it onto the battery. If you're using an atomizer, liquid will build up inside, and it should be cleaned frequently. I don't use atomizers, but when I did for three days, I soaked it in rubbing alcohol for a few minutes and then blew it dry with a blow dryer, or you can let it sit overnight.

Yes, cartomizers last a lot longer than atomizers. With atomizers, you'll have to drip liquid very often into the inner cart and onto the bridge that's at the end of the atomizer (the u-shaped mesh thing). One cartomizer lasts me about an hour, but that's when I vape constantly. A cartomizer lasts most people longer than an hour. There's just a lot less hassle when using cartomizers.
