I'm hoping someone can help me with an issue I've been having for about a month or so now with my Russian 91% because I can't figure it out. I'm consistently getting burnt hits after about 4 or 5 draws off of it. The only way I can seem to get it to go away is by twisting off the top cap a little bit and then screwing it back down. I guess this is doing something with the pressure in the tank or something like that. However, after another 4 or 5 draws I start getting burnt hits again, so I have to keep repeating that process until it's time to refill the tank. It's almost like the juice isn't getting to the wick for whatever reason. I don't use really long wicks, so it's not an issue with the wick blocking the channels or anything. My wick comes down far enough to rest on the deck, and doesn't overlap down to where the juice channels are. I've had this tank for about 7 or 8 months now, and this just started happening recently. I've seen other posts and videos where people have suggested adjusting the airflow screw to see if that helps, but tightening it and loosening it up hasn't helped.

My coil is built with 28 gauge Kanthol and I use organic cotton for my wick. The juice I use is 12mg 50/50 blend. All the same stuff I've used since I bought this tank. I used to be able to chain vape on this tank and NEVER got burnt hits, so I'm really confused as to why this suddenly started. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Welcome aboard
Air leaks - hold your finger over the air hole and taking a draw. There should be no air flow.
Too much wick - If the cotton is bunching up as you pull the cotton through the coil, you have too much cotton. Lay the wick in an 'S' pattern away from the juice passages.
Coil - No hot leg, no hot spot, resistance above 1 ohm. I prefer 32ga kanthal a1. It seems to heat up and cool down more quickly.
Air Flow - Decrease the air flow. This will increase the vacuum inside the tank and cause more juice to be brought to the wick.
Squank - That a couple of dry puffs as the flavor begins changing (the pre-burnt taste)

Yep, Ebates covered it, for the most part. Most of the times I get dry hits on my Kayfun, it is because the viscosity of the juice I am using is not allowing for the juice to wick as fast as I am vaporizing it. I can usually over come that by covering the air hole and taking a short draw. A few bubbles will rise from the channels, and the wick is saturated again.

This is just typical of a Kayfun. There is nothing to really force the juice up the channels except the force of the juice in your tank. If you cover your ait hole on the side of the Kayfun and take a pull you will be air bubbles rise to the top of your tank. I love the kayfun so I stick with it as is. I usually take to or 3 hits and after the 3rd I will do one of these closed airhole pulls to force some fluid into the juice well. Definetly dont want to use too much cotton either as this will always restrict wicking of juice. One other tip I can give is to use a spaced coil instead of a micro coil. If found this to make things a little better. I also build mine when using a mechanical at .8 ohms. I find this to be the best fire, taste and juice consumption combination. I also use a smaller drill bit (5/64) I believe. This makes the wick smaller in diameter. It is important to have a thinner wick because it will not block the juice channel at the base as much as a bigger wick. You always want the little channel to be clear so when you do the closed air pull, you will not have a problem forcing the juice in. The Kayfun 4 that just launched uses a drip type juice feed instead of channels and the new one should perform a lot better in this regard.

The cotton is definitely not too thick. When I thread it through the coil, I always make sure I can move it back and forth freely without it catching. Maybe my piece of cotton is not long enough? The biggest mystery to me is, I've built my coil and wick the same way since I've had this tank and all of a sudden I'm having issues with burnt hits. The cotton is definitely not long enough to do an S shape, but if its not supposed to go down past the deck anyways, why would I need to do the S shape? According to my VV/VW device, my coil is reading 1.5 ohms. I've tried decreasing and increasing the air flow, but that hasn't helped. I've had it extremely tight, extremely open, and everywhere in the middle, but still getting burnt hits.

The 'S' shape wick is due to my using much more wick length and build floor contact than you are.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I'm going to try putting a longer wick on it when I get home from work, and S shape it. I'm also wondering if it could be something with my o rings? They seem to be a little loose at the top and base of the tank. After taking it apart today I've noticed the o rings sticking out a little when trying to reassemble everything. I'm wondering if it's not getting a good vacuum in the tank due to that?

Since it USED to wick but now doesnt, I was just gonna post to check all your O-rings, and here it is - I think you've found the culprit.
Wicking depends on vacuum, and a worn or kinked O-ring CAN cause poor wicking or even a leak (even a JUICE DUMP).
Check them all, replace any that are damaged, put it all back together and see if you get airtight (cover the airhole and draw - you should be able to suck NOTHING, LOL).

I bet that fixes it!

Ok. I replaced all of the o rings, put a new wick on, S curve wick sitting on the deck above the juice channels, and I'm still getting dry hits. I put my finger over the air hole and took a draw, no air leaks. Tank is full of juice so wth is going on????? I can't figure out why I'm still getting burnt hits. I've even messed with adjusting the airflow and no changes there either

Your having the same exact problem as I so far have tried everything mentioned and been Unsuccessful.but my kayfun has taken a back seat to my magma for a bit one thing I have learned is putting a drop of juice on that top oring yes I know we figured out you don't have any leaks but the little lube makes certain it can't scrunch up when tightened and improve its useful life.the only left I have to try is the the "navy nest" wicking method I have read it has solved many peoples wicking not sure but it's my last hope.no time to try till Friday afternoon but if it is the silver bullet I will make certain to spread the word.
