I was hoping someone may be able to give me some idea how I would calculate how much nicotine to add to my existing juices...ok..I have 27 ml of 18mg 50/50 ry4..also I have 60 mg nic in pg base I would like to have between 30-36 mg more or less ,how many drops or how much nic do I need to add to bring the nic level up...amm new and have some juices but they are 18.mg and 16 mg ...I would appreciate all the help you can give me..also I have a nic or e-juice calc i got from here but it seem to be for new diy liquids from scratch?..Thanks in advance..Joe:blush:

If you used the ejuice calculator by Scubabatdan in the sticky's then section 5 would show you that 25 drops of 18mg and 19 drops of 60mg would yield 36mg final solution.

You won't actually have 36mg because the drop size of straight PG is not the same as the drop size of 50/50 even from the same dropper, but it will be close enough for government work.

If you put 21ml of the 60mg into into the 27ml of 18mg, you will get 48ml of just over 36mg/ml. You will change/diminish the flavor of your liquid, unless your 60mg is the same flavor.

Calculators are evil. I usually just figure the problems out by plugging numbers into a general average formula, and whether doing it in my head or on a calculator, it's pretty quick.

So, I thought I'd go a different way and solve the equation for a 30mg/ml result, and was dismayed that I'd forgotten how to do that. Now, because I took the time to give myself a bit of a refresher on algebra, I may as well post it here :p

(xa + yb) / (a + b) = c

An equation for averaging, where:

x = strength of liquid #1 in mg/ml (18)
a = quantity of liquid #1 in ml (27)
y = strength of liquid #2 in mg/ml (60)
b = quantity of liquid #2 in ml ( ? )
c = resulting strength of finished liquid in mg/ml (30)

After plugging in the known numbers, solve for b:

(27 * 18 + 60b) / (27 + b) = 30

(486 + 60b) / (27 + b) = 30

486 + 60b = 30 * (27 + b)

486 + 60b = 810 + 30b

486 + 30b = 810

30b = 324

b = 10.8

That was fun, but I'll probably just plug in numbers 'till I get close, next time. I'd guess that could have been done easier, too.

So, 10.8ml of 60mg/ml added to the 27ml of 18mg/ml will yield 37.8ml of 30mg/ml.

Lucent,
Your previous example was easier for most folks to remember than this last one.
I too hate juice calculators.
By the time they know which numbers to plug in where, they don't need help :)

I have two rules that I follow even if I do it in my head,

Rule 1, Always express the quantities in the correct unit. mg for mass, ml for volume, and mg/ml for concentration (strength).
Rule 2, The TOTAL number of milligrams of nicotine divided by the TOTAL final volume in ml,
is ALWAYS
the strength in mg/ml.

Ha, I set up a spreadsheet to calculate the amount to add to 10ml of your stuff and as a placeholder put 7ml...which is right for just under 36mg/ml.

Actually, per 10ml of your stuff, you'd need to add 6ml of 60 to get 34.

The reason I did 10ml was so that you don't use up all your stuff. Also, for 27ml, you'd need to bottle that can hold around 45ml, sine you'd be adding 17ml of the 60.

I'd share the spreadsheet, but I used the tool goal seek to get the answers.

Basically, add it so the 60 is 40% of the mix to get 34mg/ml. 6 parts your 18mg/ml to 4 parts of your 60mg/ml. So, to fit in a 10ml bottle, 6ml original with 4ml of your RY4.

Oh, and since you're cutting the flavor nearly in half, you probably won't have a very good RY4 anymore.

Edited to add: I know others did the calc for you earlier, but I had to understand the math myself and wanted to present the info in a way I could understand. Also the comment re flavor degradation.
