Well, yes, you'll need to know the coefficient of your wire, if you need to input it manually in your mod. Stock coil heads won't work in TC (I think) as TC requires SS, nickel or titanium.
I would suggest stainless steel personally. It can be used in wattage or temperature mode, so you can vape your build in wattage mode first and then switch to TC. You'll want to input the correct wire, then select a ramp up wattage, and a ceiling temperature, which shouldn't be above 420F for safety purposes. I might (with a smok mod, they aren't exactly known for dependable TC, honestly) consider thinking about maybe lowering that threshold a bit, as smok and TC are, well, it's just not as accurate as some mods.
Once you start, you may find you want a different box mod for TC, a DNA device will be the most accurate (and expensive) but there are non DNA mods that do TC fairly well, Teslacigs is one such company, I have found. You may wind up finding that your smok mod functions best with the stock drop in coils, and reserving your RTA for something else.
Personally (while I enjoy my RTAs and the ability to use TC) I'm always going to use SOME mods with drop in coils, and non TC vaping. For example when out and about, I don't want to necessarily bring an RTA out and about, at least not exclusively although I quite often do nowadays, now that I've had enough experience building and wicking to be fairly sure I won't have some catastrophic leak, but when I go out, well , I usually have at least ONE drop in tank mod with me and etc.
Best of luck I hope it works out for you
