mods are usually 'upgraded' parts, there are atty mods and battery mods. they are usually for advanced users who want to get more out of their vaping experience by giving you higher voltage vaping or lower resistance atties, which translates to more vapor and more flavour. For a start, I don't suggest you consider them since you won't know how to use them effectively and you won't be able to troubleshoot if its not performing well. get the kit in the picture and start learning bit by bit. and yes, carts or atomizers are not meant to last a long time, thats why we all stock up on them.
The only atomizers that can last long are rebuildable atties, when they are going to die, you just take them apart and and build it back to brand new, the iatty for one is a rebuildable atty, but there is a very steep learning curve in using it. The cost to buy one is about $150-200. So I think 3 bucks for 1 cartomizer is not a very bad deal.
