Hey guys,

Total noob here... these e-cigs seem too good to be true. Spent countless hours researching... was about to get a White Cloud when I found this forum. Phew!

Despite all of the informative recommendations on here, I'm still overwhelmed and need your guidance

For my 1st starter kit, I'm looking for a relatively compact, durable and long-lasting battery w/ a glowing tip (x2), an AC charger, a car charger and high-quality, pre-filled (for now) cartomizers (heard this way is better than a seperate atomizer).

I'm really concerned about the quality of and ingredients in the e-juice. White Cloud lists all of the chemicals in its juice and states their cartridges are sealed to avoid leakage. How do we know random websites aren't selling contaminated juice?

Consensus seems like the eGo or a mod. I'm leaning towards the eGo, but it's a little thick for my taste... what about a KR808D-1 or 2? What's the difference? Or, should I go with a mod? If so, which one?

Most importantly, which reputable websites should I use to buy the e-cig and the juice?

Thanks!

Top of the page, there's a button that is labeled Forum Suppliers. None of those are "random".

Depending what you mean by "long lasting battery", odds are, a slim battery isn't going to work out for you. Smaller batteries = Short life between recharges.

As for mods - I don't know of any that are smaller than an eGo. Most are a fair bit larger.

Contaminated juice? Hmmm... Never heard of a juice recall. I have heard of plenty of recalls on foods from the grocery store though. ;)

I think the 808d-1 is more standard, its what I have on my v2 which i really like. I think the volt and bloog "batteries" are supposed to have some of the highest quality cells or maybe the highest, not sure, so that is probably what I would get if I were to pick another cigarette form factor. I just got some fruit juices and chai from alien visions and they're great.

I quit smoking with an ego it was a good starter PV but I quickly moved to a mod, a few months ago I needed a hand free PV for gaming so I bought a auto volt from smokeless image it works really well for what it is and I get about 3- 4 hours off the 78mm battery so all in all not a bad PV ether would probably be a good choice

Breathe, I never used pre-filled cartos, so I can't help you with that, but Liberty Flights has very good pricing on 510 or Riva starter kits (don't forget to click the 20% off button on the top left). You're never going to get a very compact size *and* long battery life. The two are mutually exclusive. If you want a cigarette-like size, you might want to try a KR808D-1, it has a longer battery life than standard 510's - that's what I hear around the forum, anyway, I haven't used them, myself. Vapor4Life is a popular vendor for kits and pre-filled cartos.

Everyone here has different favorite vendors for equipment and juice. There no one right answer. But you can feel fairly secure buying from any of the ECF vendors - browse the forum vendors section and see what appeals to you. Buy small quantities and experiment. It's the only way you'll find what you like.

As for worries about contaminated juice, I haven't heard of any problems. I'm not sure what you would consider "contamination" although people have different ideas of what they want in their juice. Again, browse the ECF vendors and the juice sub-forums. There are vendors who sell organic juice, vendors who extract their own nic, and vendors who carefully follow any testing news and work very hard to supply only the safest product possible. You'll see "YMMV" around here a lot. We each have to find what works for us. It may seem intimidating, but once you get started the learning curve is very sharp and you'll be surprised by how quickly you'll feel like a pro.

WELCOME TO THE ECF

All cartridges leak. Companies like White Cloud always throws out false promises and fake information. If you want something more compact then you might like this one. It's a KR808 system (no difference between the 1 & 2 to the best of my knowledge):

ELITE 808 (ALL NEW)

It's a little bit smaller then an ego and it's cigarillo shaped. Having blank cartomizers (which is a cart/atomizer built into one) will give you the ability to try out different e-liquids out there and will ultimately save you money. It's really not that hard to fill.

510's, 306's, 808's, 901's, and 801's are different threading types. Also, they give you a different vape as well. If you want warmer vapor and more TH: 510 and 306. Cooler vape and less TH but has more flavor: 808, 801, and 901.

Mods are a totally different story and it's for advanced users that are already familiar with e-cigs in general.

Welcome. I can't advise you about the smaller e cigs (I started with the kgo and moved to mods), definately get refillable cartomizers. Juice is subjective. Different vendors use different tobacco bases so flavors are all over the place. I would try some sample packs from ECF vendors. Be wary of vendors not listed on this forum, not saying they are bad but buyer beware. That said some of my favs are Prime vaping, Hangsen (smoktek carries a large variety of Hangsen) and my freedom smokes.

Go with the eGo, it's not that thick. I started with a white cloud...big waste of money. Then with a kr808 from V4L, good product and the same thing as white Cloud, but at a fraction of the cost.
I soon found I needed more battery life. I am now using eGo's and box mods. You will have to decide if you prefer carts, ce2's or atomizers to use with your battery. The vendors that sell juice here on ECF are reputable. Good luck.

I must disagree completely with the bolded comment. A Riva, eGo, Riva UNC, E-Power 510 or GLV2 is JUST as easy to use as any mini model listed above. I would love an explanation as to how these are more complicated. Second, I always marvel when someone describes in detail the mini models but neglects to mention the very poor battery life forcing the new person to switch out batteries every hour or so. And the fact that the mini's performance is far inferior to the better battery models such as the E-Power.

To the OP, save yourself some money and frustration and start with a good "beginner" model such as the Riva UNC or the E-Power 510 which will allow you to vape for about 5 hours on a charge and will provide warmer vapor with less hassle than the mini's.

KR808D-1 is the ONLY popular model with a large selection of prefilled cartomizers. It's the most popular 2-piece and a real 3.6/3.7v model (not 3.4v like most other slim ecigs)

I recommend manual batteries - easier to get a good hit, harder to damage or kill with juice leaks.

Vapor4Life.com (feature - allows LONG drags up to 10-13 seconds. Most others allow 5 seconds). Manuals still have a hole in the threaded end but it appears sealed inside. 3.7v, higher right off the charger, drop a bit at the end of charge

These three feature regulated 3.6v instead of 3.7v, so a smidge less heat but add 40mah to the charge of each size, 5 seconds cutoff, rubberized finish. Manuals have a small partially recessed button that is a bit harder to press but have a more fully sealed threaded end
SmokelessImage
Bloogplanet
Halocigs G6

Elite-808 - not sure if this is straight manufacturer 808 spec (which would be 5 second cutoff, but otherwise like the Vapor4Life ones)

On a manual battery, you can use a DSE901 standard resistance atomizer and drip tip to test juices.

And NOTE - one cartomizer does not last as long as a pack of cigarettes. Most people think they last about as long as 12-14 cigarettes. And if you run a cartomizer too dry, it will singe and add a bitter burnt taste. Most people keep them damp with suitable (thin and clear enough) eliquid to get 4-7 days use out of each. I use PG with 20% or less VG and I avoid juices that seem to drop a lot of flavoring sediment (clogs cartos, ruins drag, shortens carto life)

You can start with a smaller e-cig. I did nad have no regrets. But I did move on from them. I started with Smokestik(registered vendor), moved to a Volcano Inferno(very good product), but now I only use my Great Lakes Vapor mods. The GLV2 Super-mini lasts a long time on the battery, and it is very small although it is much fatter than a cigarette size. Any of the vendors on this site would be a good place to start. Good for you for doing research!!

I agree, I bought my first e-cig 2 1/2 years ago. I was using a friends who didn't like it. Bought a similar cigarette looking type, from a kiosk in the mall ( everyone sing along with me... that was dumb). The batteries were crap were dead in about two hours, it had one of those cigarette pack looking charging stations... it was hit or miss if it was charging like it said it would.
bottom line: if your serious about switching to electronic cigarettes... egoT's are good, e-power is good. it will take you through for a good while then you'll want to switch to a box mod or a silver bullet that has rechargable batteries not a built in battery.

Give the eGo/eGoT or E-power a try... stick to ones that use 510 cartomizers and or atomizers.

Best of luck lot's on youtube also check out reviews on youtube about e-cigarettes PV boxmods and what I call slims (the ones that look the most like an analog cigarette) Most of the vendors on here have websites that post on their website juice reviews..... that will get you into similar youtube reviews /juice reviews....

Happy Vaping!!!

BTW my favorite juices come from Tasty Vapor, and Alien Visions.
My favorite youtube reviewer of all things e-cig related is pbusardo... he's good unbiased and his video's are top notch and fun to watch!

I started with kr808's and was really happy with them. You've then got options like the Echo and Elite which you can upgrade to down the track and will still be compatible with your kr808 gear. Shop around with your juices, try different flavours (not just tobacco) and you'll find a few different ones you like. Trying different juices is half the fun of vaping.

My recommendation would be start with kr808's, get at least 3 batteries to start with and try both auto and manual batteries. Most people will recommend manual batteries but I prefer autos, get both and make up your own mind. Don't expect to start saving money for a little while yet, put the time and effort in and you'll be rewarded.

Enjoy your new hobby!

Thanks MsTick... By contaminated, I meant containing unnecessary and/or dangerous chemicals. Ppl point out that vapor is much safer than the tar and carcinogens in tobacco smoke. I would argue that it depends on what the vapor consists of. I'm no chemist, but if there's some hydrochloric acid mixed in, it just might burn holes through your lungs. I doubt there are vendors malicious enough to do something like that, but mistakes happen and this is a relatively new, booming and unregulated industry. Not that the FDA would help. I was under the impression that juice consists of a PG/VG blend, nicotine and flavoring. Turns out it has ~10 different components:
Electronic Cigarettes - Ingredient Guide

That's why I'm grateful for the ECF vendors and the juice sub-forums. I'll search for a vendor who sells organic juice, extracts its own nic AND follows any testing news/works hard to supply the safest product possible... and report back.

Really glad you decided not to purchase the White Cloud. This is one of the biggest ecig forums around. Sorta makes you wonder why they wouldn't be a supplier on here where you have a build in customer base, doesn't it?

Cigarettes are regulated and they kill people. I've never heard of a person dying or even getting sick vaping. Most vendors start making juice because they vape.

If you don't feel comfortable vaping premade juice there's always the option to make your own. Plenty of information on how to do this in the DIY section. Their juice has 10 components. Yours could have less. Lots of suppliers that aren't rip offs list ingredients. Vapor Station does. I'm sure others do as well.

Hopefully I can repay the favor by helping out some noobs when I become more knowledgeable. I heard about e-cigs a couple years ago, but didn't look into them because I planned on quitting altogether. Now I realize that I like nicotine, but not the tobacco smoke that usually accompanies it. I'm going to go with eGo to start, just because so many of you recommend it for rookies. I'm still not sure whether it allows for cartos and how the juice works, but I'll order a bunch of stuff and figure it out from there. Once I get the hang of it, I'll look more into your other recommendations (i.e. 808, smokelessimage, GLV, bloog) and, of course, mods. I'll be back...

HAPPY VAPING

Any questions you have, just ask.

For $40 you can get the T-Rex at Liberty Flights. Comes with dual coil cartomizers but you'll need to purchase a wall charger.
That has a 900 mah battery . You get about 1 hour per 100 mah.

Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - MEGA T-Rex

Or there is the standard Riva for $29.99. Comes with two batteries, 2 atomizers, cartridges, charger. Purchase cartomizers separately.

With the ego battery you have several options-

Cartomizer & battery - the cartomizer is a cartridge and atomizer combined. You attach this to your battery. You get a good vape with this and it's very easy. The downside is, that when your new, once you fill the cartomizer with juice your committed to vaping over 1 ml of that flavor.

Cartridge, atomizer and battery. The plasic cartridge holds juice and you place it on the atomizer. This gets placed on your battery. Cartridge doesn't hold as much juice as a cartomizer but can be cleaned and reused. Messier and sometimes leaks.

Tanks (ego-T) Small tanks filled with juice, placed on the ego-T atomzier and placed on your battery. Easy to use and you can tell when you need to refill. Can be reused. Downside, vape is muted somewhat and they sometimes leak or get dry hits. Issues with the Wick.

Dripping- Drip juice directly onto the atomizer.

There are also CE2's, dual coil cartomizers, etc. etc. Very versatile pv.
