Hello all. I have been researching the different types of e cigs and its making my head spin. I have tried a small, el-cheapo e cig before, but it didnt pack the punch that im looking for. I need reccomendations on an ecig that you can really feel...something with some "throat kick" as ive heard it called. I don't want something huge like a screw driver, but wouldnt mind something like a pen style e cig. I want an ecig that feels almost like smoking real cigarettes. Can anyone help me?

there is only one ecig that you need to consider. Go to AltSmoke.com | Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette | Ecigs | Happy Holidays! order a silver bullet or a BB. they are indestructible have amazing battery life, and will never fail you. then go to www.avidvapor.com buy 2.0 ohm low resistance atomizers and IMR high drain 18650 for Silver Bullet or IMR high drain 14500 for BB. You will never need to buy another ecig again. Don't believe me? Ask anyone. There are a lot of great mods out there but these ones just work and they work great. After you have either of these then let your head spin buying other mods for the novelty factor. I guarantee though, that these will end up being your staple go to vape.

Lot of great alternatives out there. Variable Volt units will give you the most flexability, no doubt about that. We all have our preferences. If you need to go cheap, then yah, plenty of fixed volt units out there as well.

Fixed volt mod I prefer the GGTS to all others. Again, flexability and craftsmanship vs cheap units. GGTS +UFS and the 1.5 ohm cisco attys=heaven.

If you like cartos, the dual coils are insane. 1.5 ohm rating that you can push over 7 volts though and still will not burn the juice. Nothing on the planet hits like they do when you crank high volts through them.

Give yourself room to grow, and flexability. Always new hardware invented each month it seems. You want to be able to try them out, and blow your mind, not buy a whole new PV just to use something else.

With any "real e-cig" your kick will depend entirely on your atomizer and juice. By "real" I mean anything over 3v, so an ego, riva, gogo, leo, 3.7 mod, 5v mod will all have plenty of kick. For price, get an ego or riva 510, a LR 510 atomizer (or several), and some Wyatt Earp from FSUSA in 24mg and kaPOW. Lol. If you smoke menthol you can go a little cheaper on the juice and get Dekang Sam Mint. It's not entirely the e-cig's fault that you're not getting that kick that you're looking for, but anything under 3v won't cut it.

Hit is a mainly a combination of nicotine amount and heat, modified somewhat by the base liquid of the juice (higher PG vs VG lets through more hit) and by the amount of juice vaporized per drag

Your choices for ecigs that are harder hitting than junk ecigs

1. KR808D-1 (or Vapor4Life.com for nicer colors) - a true 3.7v slim ecig and give a decently warm hit with Vapor4Life WOW cartomizers. This a 9mm slim ecig and probably the warmest hit you'll get in a slim ecig.

or either of these is hotter - the way to get more heat is having the electrical resistance of the atomizers or cartomizers be low for the voltage of battery they are on. You cannot do that on slim batteries without killing them, so

2. Ego or Riva 510 (fat battery 510 model) and use low resistance atomizers or cartomizers on them

3. A 3.7v mod and use low resistance attys and cartos

4. A high voltage mod and use standard resistance attys and cartos

John is correct in stating that many are fond of the Silver Bullet. However, those are still fairly large. If you are slightly inclined with a soldering iron and have enough money to float the ~$45 cost (incl. rechargeable batteries), you could check out the link below for an excellent DIY tutorial with all parts available from Radio Shack except the atomizer:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/battery-mods/106016-how-build-puck.html

It doesn't exactly fit the "pen-style" requirement you set forth but when you look at the footprint of an assembled Puck, it's pretty manageable (pocket sized).

If you don't want anything larger than a screwdriver, that really does away with most mods. Even the ego styles, as they are about the same size(which really isn't that big). But here is a decent set up right off the top of my head.Get you a couple of 102mm extended kr808d-1 batteries and a charger from Vapor4Life-Because it's your life - E-Cigarettes/Smoking Alternatives , and a couple of packs of cartomizers from Electronic Cigarettes By Bloog , and depending on your juice preference maybe try some 555 from Welcome to NHaler! with at least 24mg of nicotine to get started. There are tons of juices out there that are great. The reason I mention this one, as it seriously reminds me of a juice that I got started on that has a harshness to it that simulated a cig to me. It reminds me of Puresmoker's old CASH TAB. Good stuff, but discontinued due to manufacturing problems. Good luck, and I hope this helps!

Vaporizers are different than cigs. Different by being better... so it takes a bit to get used to.

That said, the KR808D-1 automatic feels like smoking a cig to me, in the automatic version. I really hate the stupid button business. Cartomizers are easy.

Flavors approximate tobacco, but not very well. Some taste good-but-not-tobacco, and some taste terrible-but-not-tobacco. They are never the same for anyone. If you keep an open mind, then you will probably find a flavor combination you like much better than cigarettes. Give it a week off cigarettes and you won't go back.

Everyone may recommend you get a screwdriver, or some big shiny metal monstrosity, or box with a stick coming out of it... and maybe you should, but just not yet. Once you break the smoking habit and build up a habit for vaping, then you might consider spending all your extra cigarette money on some Dr. Frankenstein invention with a huge battery, voltage meter, and a juice feeder or whatever. You'll still want the regular looking cig version for when you aren't at home on the internet...

After a long search and hundreds of dollars later, I found the Go Go. It requires the least amount of maintenance of any device to date for me. Two piece system. Battery lasts up to 2.5 days and I get 24 hours plus of vapping on the one charge. The cartomizers are a piece of cake to refill and hold 3ml of e liquid. The empty cartos do not come pre primed so no funny taste from the get go. I find the plumes of vapor and amazing taste unmatched by any other pv. Happy Vapping!

A great, more cost effective, larger battery but not huge mod to loo look into I think would be the Big Brother vari-volt box mod. It doesn't have look like of an analog cig, but its small enough to conceal and not look like you're about to remotely set off a bomb if you decided to vape in public. They sell it over at boxmods.net, I had one and to this day it was my favorite vaporizer I've ever used. I have used the reo grand, reo mini, ego, 901, red dragon auto, my homemade 3.7 box mod and still remember how good that mod was. The idea of using an e-cig that looks and acts like an analog is awesome, but when executed you are put up against the limits of technology. If it's really light it'll work for an hour, maybe. If it has a longer life you probably can't support it with your lips. this is basically why I believe most people who vape end up with larger or more odd looking devices as the way they function is more important than their looks. To each there own though, I used to smoke one pack+ a day so I started vaping as a desperate alternative and have been very comfortable making the jump.... and the next jump to weird looking mods... and the next jump to different attys.... and at times spending more on vaping than smoking, be careful this hobby can wreck your bank account. :)

i will have to second the Go-Go. after having a greensmoke (which i was led to believe had the most vapor production) i switched over and havent looked back. the go-go is extremely maintenance free, the most i fiddle with it is to wipe the condensation off battery post when the hit gets a little weak.

as a comparison i would liken the go-go to a e-hookah. the amount of vapor, and the taste are tops.

If you want big hits, you're going to need a decent-sized battery... which means you're going to need a decent-sized mod. You may be able to get what you want out of a pen-style e-cig with low-resistance atomizers, but not very likely.

2 suggestions... a true 3.7v device with low-resistance atomizers OR 6v device with high-resistance atomizers. I've tried them both, they both give me big, nasty hits... good throat hit, nice vapor production, and wonderful flavor...

Puresmoker.com's Prodigy v3.1 can take 1 battery for 3.7v vaping or 2 batteries for 6v vaping. I have one, it isnt all that big... its more than manageable. They also sell atomizers, cartomizers, juice, batteries, chargers... really, anything you need all in one stop.

If you're committed to vaping for a while, make the jump into something nice so you can enjoy your experience... Just do your research first!

I think PS stopped selling cartos, and began selling 510's instead. Been a while since I've been over there. What you are saying is true in many ways. When I got started, I got a PS protege, and couldn't have been happier. But things have changed. I HATED cartos after using them with my first ecig. I didn't give them another chance until 5 or 6 months ago, and the game has changed completely. You can now get massive hits with smaller ecigs batteries. The battery life still remains a problem for those who don't have a charger handy, but I'm getting at least 3+ hours off of a 102mm battery. That ain't to bad. 2 102mm batteries seem to get me through the day fine. And now this is of no concern after getting the Igo yesterday. 11 hour battery supposedly.
