I had the rather nasty experience of one particular Boge 510D LR Cartomizer apparently "destroying" my batteries. I had been using similar to 650mAh ECHO Manual Battery for 510/eGo,
650mAh ECHO Manual Battery for 510/eGo Black
and these had been fine for quite a while.

Then one particular LR carto
5pc Boge 510D Empty Cartomizer(7 colors)
rendered two batteries useless, one after the other, by somehow shorthing out the switch so that they are now permanently ON. They still charge, hold charge and operate as normal, but the switches are cactus. Since the carto destroyed both in sucession, I'm convinced that the carto is at fault.

My replacement plan is to buy 3 or 4 batteries which will suit BOTH the
- Boge 510D LR Cartomizer and
- Vision eGo Transparent Clearomizer for 510/eGo (Short Wick)
http://www.healthcabin.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1076_1089&products_id=7994

They will have to suit a USB Charger for Joye510
USB Charger(with cord) for Joye510 - Joye 510 - E Cigz Ecigs E cigs Australia Electronic cigarette Joye 510 , DSE 905 , 901 Atomizers Batteries Blue Foam Mega Batteries

I do like the strong "hit" which the 3.3->4.2V batteries give with the Boge LR carto.

Hope somebody can give some recommendations, especially something which might be protected against the kind of overload I experienced.

I would just reco you get an E-Power starter kit- 3.7 volts, $39.95 and the batts are 1050 mah. 100 mah= 1 hour normal vaping. Also extra batts cost $5.00 unlike Ego/ Riva/ Kgo batts which cost $15-%$20. The E-Power will allow you to use the LR cartos without burnout. I reco the SmokTeck 1.7 XL cartos. Prefer carto by E-Power and Kgo users. Gotta go for dinner.

The proper eGo battery (don't know about Echo) will support all those cartos you mention. I am using eGo battery with Vision Stardust and even the huge eGo Mega Dual Coil Carto with no problems. I also bought from Health Cabin :).
They have an awesome sale on now, just pick up a few. Btw, next week the Twist battery will be in stock too.
I think your CHARGER is wrong!! That could have fried your batteries, but I may be wrong though.... You need an eGo charger AFAIK, that charger seems to be for the mini 510 ecig. Or are they the same? eGo charger also available at Health Cabin and very cheap.

Stardust on eGo battery.

Other than picking the 510 charger instead of the eGo charger the cartos you listed aren't really low enough to have killed the batteries. 2.0 - 2.2 ohm is "old school" low resistance but should be OK for a 650mah eGo clone.
1.5 to 1.7 ohm is LR now days and a strain on some clones less than 900mah.

A cheap DMM might be of benefit.

Health Cabin dot net or Heaven-Gifts. dot com would be OK for your location.

The actual batteries I have, which have been charging happily for months, are
http://www.healthcabin.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1050&products_id=7592

- Joye eGo Manual Battery In 10 Colors(650mAh)

These have been discontinued though, and the ones I referenced are the closest match I could find. I have been using the Boge 510D XL cartos for months too without problems... until this one particular one blew up 2 batteries in a row.

Regardless, it looks like I'll have to kit up with new stuff anyway. Will take a look at the eGo range.

Thanks.

When I click on the link, I get a discontinued page lol. Anyway, you are probably right if you know that your cartos were faulty or something and shorted your battery. Did you contact the supplier? Also many people like the Echo battery, but as far as I know the Joye eGo are the original and the Echo a kind of clone.

Thanks for the suggestion. Do you have a link to the starter kit please? Can't find it from link or search. BTW, I'm quite happy with the 650mAh capacity of the batteries I have (had) - they seem to last a full day, so the issue of moving to more mAh is not an issue with me. I already have about 70 Boge XL cartos, since I'm pretty happy with the performance... except for the battery killer one I copped.

The supplier of the cartos was healthcabin. It's the first problem I've had from dozens of these cartos. But you mentioned the current sale and there's a lot to choose from - can you recommend any specific battery/charger combo? I'm pretty new to all this stuff and just do what the voices tell me to do. :D

I believe I have also become the belated inventor of the twist battery. The only way I can vape now is to twist the carto thread to ON then untwist it to OFF!

Maybe Vapoor means this ?
Personally I would rather fo for the new Twist VV Battery (available from next week)!

Sorry, what is a DMM?

And yes, I'm sure it was one particular defective carto which killed the batteries (two in a row). I've been through dozens of these cartos with the same batteries and chargers for months without problem.

Lol, I answered you, then found you asked that question. OK, HC has a giant sale on now. The Twist is only available from next week, so if you are in a huge hurry (I would be with no battery) I would suggest ordering a few batteries now, and then the Twist next week. Actually that is what I did, since the sale items are flying FAST.
Pic of different batteries
eGo 650
eGo 900
eGo 1000
charger DEFINITELY get at least 2.

And grab a few LR Stardust (and you can thank me later because they are awesome lol).

Digital Multi-Meter. Measures battery voltage, carto resistance, cheap.
$10 gets you one a little better than a $5 one. Big box stores, auto parts stores, on-line. Easy to learn how to use for e-cig applications.

Thanks. That may be good insurance for batteries. Funny thing is that the defective carto is still vaping strong (maybe real strong) after blowing the battery switch. So I can't imagine an internal dead short - the element must be working OK. I'll try doing a post mortem on it when it expires, to try to source the problem.

OK, thanks. I'll take a look at those. The Twist VV looks good. Seems I'll need a specific MEGA charger too?
Yes, you could get the Mega Charger for your Twist, and it will also charge your other eGo batteries. So maybe one of those and at least one of the other.

Or if you are a heavy vaper and will have a few batteries going in rotation, you could just get the 10 Battery Mega Charger but then you will need the adaptors .That is what I did because I'm tired of all the clutter of all my different chargers (I'm awaiting my order now). That is one unit and I can screw all the adaptors in it and then just add a battery when needed lol. But the other otion is good too especially if you don't need to charge more than one at a time.

The bottom edge (at the threads) of some cartos is thin and can get damaged. This could cause an intermittent short.
Look over the edges closely.

or you could have tried to vape batteries on a Friday that were made on a Monday,
or not :)

Meter be a good thing.

Threads seem OK under a microscope. I suspect it must be something internal, which I might be able to detect with an Ω meter. The offending carto is still working, as are the batteries it mangled. The damage it did seems to be limited to the switches, which are now permanently ON and the LEDs are no longer working. The batteries even recharge as per normal. Hard to figure out what has happened here.
