My father in law is wanting to try vaping. He has copd amongst other ailments. He has been smoking/drinking for decades and his health has been declining for years. Anyway, he wants to start this weekend. I want to get him something relatively cheap, and easy to use because I am not sure he will stick with it or have the patience to change coils, refill tanks, etc. I refuse to pay vape shop prices for mods/tanks, I also know I won't receive anything I order until atleast next week. I am thinking of a gas station vape pen with cartridges, something like blu? Any and all recomendations are extremely welcome!

Depending on what you define as cheap, a Juul could be a good choice. From what I have tried (which granted is only a few puffs) and what i've been told, it's one of the closest things to smoking an actual cigarette that isn't an actual cigarette. Doesn't need a lot of upkeep and buying pods is just as easy as buying a pack of sticks, at least around here.

Another ECF member that I'm friends with, works part-time now at a vape shop. The shop owner suggested that she be the one who tries new set-ups the shop gets, so she's familiar with them and can help guide customers toward set-ups that suit them best. (The owner and his wife are mostly involved in the ordering of products, the finances, etc. and both only minimally vape).

She was telling me just a week or so ago that the Boulder Rock Starter Kit at approx. $10-$14 at most vape shops...is a really good set-up for beginners, in her opinion, after using 1 for most of a day. She said it's not only inexpensive, but is super easy to use, is refillable, produces a good amount of vapor, and is an excellent kit for providing a "smoke like" experience for those wanting that similarity.

So, that might be a decent option for your father-in-law to try. If you have vape shops in your area, they may have them in stock now, too.

My mother in law was a heavy (5-6 pad!!!) smoker. I got her a Blue at a gas station, just to tide her over for a hospital stay.

Worked like a charm. Easy as smoking. She never had another cigarette, but a lot of that was due to her not being able to go buy any.

And that would be expensive, to keep on buying those. But it might be a good first vape, and if he feels it would help him quit, totally worth the expense. He could continue with it, or decide to get a better set up.

For me, I tried that Blue we got for mil, and immediately thought, this could work! And went straight to a vape site and bought some gear.

Thank you all so much. I saw another post that mentioned blu had a sale where you got the starter pack for 1 dollar. I ordered 10! The OP gave a discount code, and the site had free shipping. Each starter pack comes with 1 pod (normally 10 bucks for 2 pods I believe) only $8.90 shipped. Then on the way to their house I stoppped at a gas station and they had one of their starter kits on sale for 10 dollars and it came with 2 pods (might have been juul, I don't remember). I tried it and Ill be damned if it didn't have a similar draw/taste of analogs. I pray that he uses it, the cost of pods is no issue if he will use them to quit analogs.

Yeah, the first one I bought him was a juul. Pretty good quality, and the pod is magnetic so it clicks in. Kinda cool little hook.

Nvm, it might have been a vuse... Anyway, it was something to get him started and he was in a hurry to get started that night. If he continues Ill look into something a little more robust. The problem is he is really rough on stuff, those dollar blu are basically disposable. If he loses one, there is another. And he can have them throughout.

Well, I ordered him 10 of the blu vaps, dollar a piece and I think Im gonna order him another couple dozen (1 refill per pack, cheaper than buying outright). He is using it, just taking him time to fully convert.

That should get him into vaping over smoking. Once he's decided that vaping is going to stick and starts to complain about the cost, you can teach him how to wind coils and make wicks. Then, he can just have the cost of juice as his major expenditure. Later on, you can turn him on to DIY and really cut costs.

One of the pod mod setups might be right for him if looking for a user-friendly beginner's setup. Overall pod setups are probably expensive for the long term compared to mod setups, but will offer a solid introduction to vaping. Vape Pod Systems

If it works out for him, he may be interested in "moving up" to a more sophisticated regulated mod and clearomizer tank setup.
