I was a 2+ pack a day smoker for 27 years. When I first started vaping I smoked two cigs total that day. One week later I lit a cig and was totally disgusted by it. vaping made quitting that easy. Two weeks with only that one disgusting cig. But, it was all lost. I ran out of juice, and having Nic attacks started back on the analogs.
Now whenever I take a hit off the PV it literally chokes me. Same flavor and nic level. Is there something I can do to help get past the initial "shock" that was never there before?

What equipment were you using initially? Has anything changed at all, different pg/vg levels? Higher voltage? Lower atty ohms? I know when I first started vaping and smoked my remaining cigs while vaping, I would cough each time i used the ecig till I was out of real cigs. Maybe it would help to just force yourself to use the ecig wthout smoking to get through the initial coughing period. I know, easier said then done.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I started out with KGO's and now use KGO VV Megas. I have tried SLB clearos, knock off mini nova, Kanger ProTank, T2's and T3's. My wife and I both enjoy the T2's, but only recently found replacement heads. (20 are in the mail) I have been boiling the heads after each tank, but they are getting harder and harder to draw through and vapor is very "liquid" tasting/feeling. I also think 'steeping' is changing my all day vape. I love it the week it comes in, it is ok the next week, then it bites like acid on the tongue. I guess it must be a combination of everything going wrong at the moment. A lot of items are coming, hopefully can work past this. Thanks

I've got basically the same question as GreyWolf. As a 1-1 1/2 pack a day smoker for more than 50 years, finally decided to do something about it going back about 4 years ago. I read this forum until my eyes crossed, ordered 'all I needed' on line, tried vaping a couple of times and just couldn't stop coughing (also couldn't stand the taste!).

A couple of weeks ago I got the 'bug' again, bought all new equipment, got my batts in the mail today, started to vape and I feel as though I'm choking to death and can't stop coughing from it.

Does anyone have any idea how long I can expect this to continue? I'm seriously committed at this point to quit analogs, but can't handle the choking. Any 'tricks of the trade' would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks!

First of all don't do a lung hit like you do smoking.

The nic is absorbed by our mouth and nose NOT our lungs with vaping. Suck it into your mouth hold it, inhale a tiny bit if you want, blow out through your nose and mouth. Think of it like smoking a pipe or cigar.

Sounds to me like you are doing a direct inhale to the lungs Zami. OUCH

I inhale the whole thing into my lungs.. usually two long drags in one shot. Hope I'm not the only one.

Depends on the juice, I have a couple flavors that are very smooth and have almost no throat hit, those I do straight lung hits on. Normally I hit it like a straw, draw the vape into my mouth then inhale.

I always inhale and don't have any problems. You may want to try different clearo/cartos. Some are smoother than others. I first tried a top coil clearo with long wicks and I never could get those to work right. They burned my lungs like I was inhaling motor oil! I just couldn't get the wicks to wick properly. For me the bottom coil types are great for inhaling. I've tried the evod, protank, and ce3 with no problems inhaling.

OTOH, I've tried to get my mom to switch and she has the same problem that you are having. She has COPD and I think it probably has something to do with that. Everytime she tried to vape she would cough.

Out of Stock,
I had that problem with some of my new clearomizers too. It was a taste from the plastics manufacturing I think. I soaked my new ones in white vinegar / rinsed / repeated until the smell was gone.

I like switching between evod and clearomizer - one is warmer the other gives a clearer taste.

Hope to try dripping soon with a SS mesh.

I agree with the above comments.

If you can recall way back when, it took your body some time to tolerate cigarette smoke; it will take it some time to tolerate vapor from our e-cigs. Although not everyone experiences the coughing initially, many do. I did. I learned to not inhale initially, but did the "straw in a milkshake" vaping technique of a slow draw of 3 - 6 seconds into the mouth, hold it, and exhale through the mouth and nose. That way you get the nicotine absorbtion. As your body starts to adjust to the vapor, you can gradually learn to inhale some vapor. I still cough in the mornings with my first vapes after a full year vaping, but by mid-day I'm inhaling into my lungs with no issues.

Drink plenty of water. The Pg and Vg in the juice draws water from our tissues and needs to be replaced. Dry mouth can affect our ability to taste the flavors in vapor. Hard candy or gum can be benefitual, too.

I found out that I prefer a cooler vape. Warm vapor seems harsh to my throat. I've learned to stay away from using LR (low resistance 1.5 - 2.0 ohm) delivery devices; standard resistance (2.0 - 2.5 ohm) give a cooler vape.

Bottom coil delivery devices allow for a cooler vape than top coil ones. A longer drip tip will allow the vapor a little longer time to cool off from the heating coil. Pg in liquids can be irritable to some people's throats, so getting juices with more Vg might help.
