Need some battery help!

Hey all!

I was wondering if you all can help me identify some batteries I scavenged from some laptop battery packs.
I want to use them on my mech mods but I am having a hard time trying to find out the relevant information on them.

The grey one looks to be an LG and the pink I believe might be a Samsung.
Any information and help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Using laptop batteries in a mechmod or APV is not considered safe. These batteries are produced with high capacity in mind and don't handle the power-draw produced by an atty.

edit: I cant find the exact specs either, but the 26 Samsung series are about 5A max rating. And that is for the most recent battery, yours might be rated even less.

Hi Jesse, welcome to the forum.

ICR = no good for vaping - especially in a mechanical so don't use the pink one. I used one like that in my Vamo for a while, but in a mech, it's a no, no. The grey one is a little harder to determine. I think it's a standard li-ion battery, but I can't find the exact chemistry or ratings for it.

Depending on the resistance you are wanting to vape at, just buy some new IMR or IMR hybrids like the AW 18650, Samsung 25R or VTC4. All can be had for between $6-12 each from Illumination supply or RTD Vapor.

You have no idea how much life is left in those batteries, what chemical condition they are in, their amp limits and therefore I would not even use them in a regulated mod.

I would not recommend using scavenged batteries for any type of vaporizer - mechanical or regulated.

What do you recommend for a 0.3 ohm coil?

If you are new to mech mods and/or rebuildables I highly recommend you spend some time with Baditude (one of our resident battery experts) and visit his blogs. You are now 100% in control of your own safety (and others around you). Make sure you purchase an ohm reader and a voltmeter or DMM so you can measure your builds, check for shorts and measure the remaining charge on your batteries.

Baditudes Blogs. The blogs that address battery safety, Ohm's Law, CDR (continuous discharge rating/Amps) and how they all work together are detailed below:

BATTERIES

Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?
* Another essential read to understand which batteries are safe to use in mechanical and regulated mods. Includes a frequently updated list of recommended safe-chemistry, high-drain batteries with their specifications.

Purple Efest Batteries not as Advertised
* A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

OHM'S LAW

Ohm's Law for Dummies (Vapers)
* My attempt at explaining Ohm's Law in layman terms and how it relates to vaping.

Explain it to the Dumb Noob: Ohm's Law Calculations
* As simple as it is to use, some people have a tough time grasping the concept. Warning: Includes graphic photos of mod explosions.

BATTERIES - WHERE TO BUY

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US.

* RTD Vapor
* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics

Very awesome guys! Thank you very much for the quick reply! I'm going to go ahead and save my hand and chuck these in the recycle bin then. :D
I'm going to check out those places InTheShade and see what I can pick up. What do you recommend for a 0.3 ohm coil?

If you are vaping at 0.3ohms, you may as well go with the VTC4 from Illumination Supply. They are $8 each.

They are 30amp CDR batteries and will offer the maximum head room for safety.
