I have 2 Protank 2 minis which I really like. I wanted something with more tank capacity where I could have my ADV, and use the 2 minis for different flavors to switch up, so I got a Protank 2. Ever sine I got the Protank 2, I've had major coil flooding problems. Starts out OK, but about 1/2 way through the tank (usually sooner), the coil floods out. I've tired turning up the voltage, that seems to help somewhat, but it still floods. Like clockwork.

When I vape the same liquid in my minis, I have no issues. I am using the same coils on both tanks (2.5ohm). On the mini, I can vape at 4.2V, and on the Protank 2, at 4.6V.

The reason I got the Protank 2 is that I expected I would have the same vape experience because the coils are the same.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

I use to have this problem and found that the replacement coils were defective. Some did not even have the wick. I have since changed vendors and I now vape mainly vg and I find the thicker liquid does not tend to flood my tank. I did hate this tank to begin with but now it is my fav. Keep working with it and check your coils. Maybe take a coil out if the minni's and put in the v2 to see if this works. Also make sure to clean with alcohol ( I use vodka) and this helps a lot to. I clean mine every night by soaking for a few minutes then dry and let air dry for a few. Works great!

Thanks Zaineee. I will replace the coil and see if that helps.

When you say you clean with alchohol, do you mean the coil, or the whole tank?

I had the same problem, drill out the air holes on the base to 1/16 and replace your wick with some cotton. Now the flavor on mine is better and it never floods not even when it's low on liquid.

I am told the air holes on the protank2 are smaller so you could also probably alleviate this by buying a protank1 base. I only own the pt2 so I can't confirm this but it's what I've been told

slow and longer drag.
always screw the tank to the battery upside down.
when it started to flood, try holding your PV upside down and burn until you hear popping noise.
or get nautilus... on nautilus my problem is exactly the opposite... the liquid are being pulled slower than my drag, had to lower my voltage because of that.

Protanks are prone to flood a little when the juice gets lower than half full. Each time you vape a little air bubble rises from the atomizer into the tank. When the tank is full, the vacuum is tight and all is well. As the air bubble grows the vacuum gets spongier (for lack of a better term) and the vacuum weakens. The fix for the Protank is to fill it when it gets down to half full or vape a high VG juice.

Vacuum is important in tanks. Last night my Nautilus started flooding and I couldn't stop it. I unscrewed the tank and poured the contents into an empty bottle. When I unscrewed the tank and then unscrewed the top I discovered a crack in the Pyrex thread under the top cap that was leaking air. It probably happened when it rolled off the table and the drip tip hit the floor the day before. No or poor vacuum seal = flooding from my experience.

I have to agree with one of the previous responses. Get an Airflow Control Valve for the ProTank II. I was having the exact same problems with my ProTank 2 until I bought one of these. In fact, I had totally quit using mine until I got one.

They only cost about $4-5, you can google for them, they are widely available now. You can just start with one and use it on multiple pt2's if you want.

Thank you for the recommendation for the Airflow control valve. I have a couple questions regarding the valve: 1.) Do I still have to drill out the airholes on the protank 2 base? and 2.) Is the flooding casued by insufficient airflow, or too much airflow?

Thanks!

The air control valve replaces the old protank 2 base, so no need to drill it out. That's what I'm doing, very happy with it. I leave the air control valve all the way open, all the time. (I even thought about super-glueing it wide open, but didn't do it.)

I haven't had any flooding issues with the Protank II, but I do like it better with that air control valve.

I think it has been mostly answered, but just to answer your direct questions about the Airflow Control Valve

1) No, no drilling required. Just screw it onto the base of your pt2. It is a piece of cake to put on (takes about 10 secs). You can take it on and off whenever you want (if you want to put it a different pt2, for example). Well, as long as the tank is empty of juice of course.

2) I am a bit of a noob myself, but it seems to me that too little airflow causes the flooding, and too much causes the pt2 infamous "gurgling". This valve will fix both problems.

There is no taking apart coils, no drilling holes, no tools at all required. Worked great for me.

I keep hearing about the stock PT2 heads leaking....I rebuild my PT2 coils and they never leak or flood or gurgle. !/16" drill bit, 10/9 wrap with cotton for the wick........snap, crackle, and pop...every time! I would get some 30g Kanthal wire, a drill bit, and some surgical cotton and build my own if I were you. Good luck!:2c: Oh yeah, I use the Aerotank base for my PT2 and I love it!!!!
